Default Emgo vs Aprilia Mirrors

After I got my 2009 recently, I bought the same Emgo mirrors from Dennis Kirk that I had on my prior Versys. I didn't want to pay for the expensive mirror extenders this time.

Part #: 391505 $11.99
Part #: 391504 $11.99
Shipping $7.99

After all the talk about the Aprilia mirrors, I got them from Ducati San Antonio and installed them today.

LH rearview mirror. AP8104922 $23.58
RH rearview mirror. AP8104921 $23.58
Shipping & Handling (MD) $ 10.95

Just an initial look in the garage doesn't make me think it was worthwhile. Perhaps they fuzz less on the highway.

IMHO, the Aprilias look much better. I bet they "age" better, too.

+1. The Emgo's look like the old accordion shock covers. I believe you get what you pay for.

I've used the Emgo mirrors for two years and 10,000 miles with no complaints. Way better than OEM.

Installed the Aprilias yesterday. No vibes whatsoever. Required a lot of tweaking before I found the right angles. The shape will definitely take some getting used to. Overall, way better.

Can you post a picture of the angle you liked best? Is the rubber boot installed with the wide opening down?

Yes. I believe your question came up because the Tuono mirrors come with the boot 'upside-down' on the adjuster nuts...?

I originally replaced my stock mirrors with after market mirrors and mirror extenders I bought off ebay. Big improvement in rearward vision and I could see past my elbows. I recently had to replace my mirrors again after a crash. This time I got the Aprila mirrors, at least mirrors that look identical to them. In fact I am pretty sure they are the Aprila mirrors, just sold direct from the Hong Kong factory as generic 10mm bar mount mirrors. [ebay item number 270849847432 ] Bought them off of ebay from Hong Kong. They are superior to anything I have had so far. No vibration and clear at any speed. They also stick out as far as the others without requiring extenders and are vertically higher up which works better and of course look better. Highly recommend.

If you have excessive vibration make sure the throttle body vacuum sync has been done. Normally done annually.

Uuh guys.
I bought these emgos listed here in this thread and they don't fit.
The bolts are way too small.

Am I doing something stupid or what?

I got 2 up grades for the price of 1. I put the Aprilia on the Versys and was happy happy joy joy at being able to see what as behind me. I then took the Versys mirrors and installed them on my KLR! Not only do they look better than the "Lollypops" the KLR comes with BUT I could see clear as a bell with very little vibs.

The KLR mirrors? They fit in the junk box just fine!

So the Aprillia mirrors don't vibrate as much as the stock?

My stock ones are horrible.

My experience would bear this out-- and much better vision behind, even without extenders.

Dead thread revived so Versys owners looking for mirrors can hear some feedback from a 2009 Versys owner that just installed a pair Aprilia mirrors. Don't. The mirrors are small. They extend outward and less upward than the mirrors I had on before. They are beveled inward on the bottom portion of the glass just exactly where you would need them wider to see the lane of traffic immediately behind you.
I use extenders with them. I might try taking the extenders off to see if the widest part of the mirror comes more into use.
Maybe the model Aprilia they are intended for has a different riding position and the shape works on that model. I'm 5'6" and with the Versys upright riding position they simply fail to inspire confidence in traffic.

I had the Emgo's. They're fugly. Bought apparently counterfeit Aprilla's off ebay. Craptastic. The right mirror got left in the road. I've put the factory mirrors back on and live with the vibration. Aprilla saga at: http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums...2&postcount=80

I've found the stock ones to be pretty vibe-free. I've had worse! Those emgos remind me of Ken Sean mirrors I put on my Ducati years ago. They looked better than the stockers and worked well.
