Still trying to decide if its worth buying the wife a christmas present as i do hate shopping and if its all over on 21st then what a waste of good summer riding time for me.
My wife empties my wallet as I always a have couple of notes in reserve and when she wants cash for the odd thing i get "honey have you got any spare cash" I never seem to use that reserve cash for me haha and go and get more cash out and tuck it away in zip part and we then get deja vu.

How the hell could it all have started, and how is it that there can be any existence at all??

For you to get from where you sit to all the way across the room, you have to walk half way across the room before you can then walk up to the wall. You can't get there in one shot. So now at half way across, you still have to go half of the distance left before you can reach the wall. Then at that point, you still have to go half of the distance that is left, before making it to the wall. There is always one half of the remaning distance left to cover, as small as the remaining distance may be, you always have to do half of the distance left before you can go the second half left... You can therefore NEVER get to your destination. It can only appear that you did, as perceived.

I realize that the world will end, but it would be the right thing to do.
I am sorry to harsh your buzz, but I do not think that anything will change on 21 December 2012 (other than there will be a solstice and the cycle around the Sun will begin again - so to speak). This is why I liken it to talking about what kind of oil to put into your Versys (or how to break in your Versys, or when to check your valves on your Versys, or whether stainless brake lines change the feel of your Versys' brakes, or.....)

I read the first post. I also noted Costco's sales of "survival food." I thought that Costco was responding more to the impending doom from the "financial catastrophe" than from the impending end of the world implied by the Mayans.
I am happy to accept that there will one day be an "end of the world," I just don't think that the Mayans are the ones to predict it. Maybe it will be on 25 December 2013???

Ok Team, since I will probably be one of the first to see the 21st of dec in and out, will try to be up at midnight to keep you posted on my final doom and report what is happening in real time.
This discussion made me think back to the time when people were wondering if the LHC would create a little black hole that would consume the earth. I really liked this video of a couple of cameras operating at the LHC.

It's at 11:11 am GMT, so it's simultaneous all over the world.

Now I really need to take exception to this. While the solstice can be timed very accurately and presumably it is the solstice that led the Mayans to end a unit of time on their calendar on this particular day, I cannot believe that the Mayans knew the hour and the minute of the solstice. It is the end of their calendar that people use to imply some sort of impending doom, not the solstice.
So if it is orbital mechanics we are talking about, then something occurs precisely at 11:11. If it is the end of the world, then I am not sure that the Mayans had that kind of precision. Then again, I could be wrong.
