Default New Versys owner in Alberta, Canada

Hey all, my husband just bought a gently-used 2009 Versys, in sparkling green. First mod is a Jardine slip-on, which was just ordered.

We looked around for a adventure-type bike, with comfortable upright seating position and tractable power, and I'm sure Bert will be very happy with his new bike. Now it's gonna be a long wait 'til springtime, lol.

I'm hoping to get some good info on the bike and mods on this forum, I already see a familiar face from another site (hello to Cuff).

Welcome, do you ride your new horse or are you the passenger?

I hate being a passenger, and haven't been since I was a teen (many moons ago), lol. I have several bikes, but my street ones are a VFR800 and V-star 950. My husband is a newer rider though, and this is his first standard bike (he has a cruiser as well).

My wife is not a very good pillion so we got her into bikes about 5 years ago with a Suzuki TC 125 the a Suzuki S40 then a C50t Boulevard but we sold the C50 last year and I brought a 2nd bike to go with the versys a 2011 ninja 1000. My wife rides bikes pretty well due to also being a good horse rider. She does not like the Ninja which suits me.

I think it's great when a couple can pursue the passion of riding, especially when they are each on their own bikes.

Completely agree! My husband and I are both fairly new riders but it's great to get out for a ride together. We've got the Versys and an older Ninja 250 and we take turns on each bike on our rides. We got the 250 as a newbie's starter bike, graduated to the Versys and now we're ready to sell the 250 for something that can keep better company with the Versys.

My husband bought this 2009 Versys last week, and we picked it up yesterday from the dealer in Edmonton. It was a cold day and the highway was snow packed in places, icy in sections and generally not great condition, but we made it there and back with the bike in one piece, albeit needing a sponge bath, lol.

He chose this bike because of the comfortable seating position, tractable power and all-rounder nature. The first mod is a Jardine slip-on exhaust. The bike already has heated grips, factory gel seat, hand wind deflectors and top case rack.

It's gonna be a long wait til the snow melts!

Hey, nice to see some familiar faces, lol. I think this is gonna be HIS bike, as I can barely touch the ground on it - actually I can only touch with one foot! I'm gonna have to plate the VFR to take out with the Versys though.
