    Hey Thump,
Small world for sure! I teach High School English, this coming year will be my 10th. I'm going to keep going for a while because I really like my job.I don't know what it is like in Florida right now, but I am just thankful to have a job really. My district had 150 layoffs--16 alone at my school. I have been off since the middle of June and we go back the end of this month.

I just did my first oil change today--500 miles on the clock. What a piece of cake! Nothing to take off-10 minutes start to finish, nice! I also performed the "cowling buzz surgery." Nothing but motor and wind on the way home--nice! You needed to do this on your bike, right?

Thanks for the info on the seat. Next summer I plan on doing a "four corners coast to coast tour," so I will get a new saddle before then! I'm looking at a rear trunk-do you have one? I am also researching bigger windscreens. Do you have one?

Well, take care and enjoy your last two weeks of vacation!

Sorry for late reply. I have been working on my bike raising the fender. Small world! I'm a High School teacher here in Florida. Hate to think about going back in two weeks. I teach Computer Systems Technology. My 15th year this year. I have about 4 more years and I am taking the pension and getting my SS (if it is still around). Florida is not the best place to be a teacher.
The Baldwin cost me $428.00. If you want to do a core exchange, (faster) you have to put in and extra $200. You get it back and Loren does a great job on the seat.
I have also had Rick Meyer saddles out of California. I put about 80K miles on an 2006 FJR13400 on his seat. Very good. Cost about the same as a Baldwin. He had not done a Versys yet and I just decided to go with experience on this one.
Hey, good luck at school this year. What do you teach?

    Hey Thump,
No, I am a school teacher. I used to contribute stories about local motocross races to Cycle News a few years back though....

Thanks for the info. on the suspension...I am going to get to 1K and let everything break in/settle in before I start tweaking things...my initial response is that both front and rear are a bit harsh, but I guess that is to be expected with a brand new bike. I go about 190 lbs.

I'm shopping for bags and from what I've already read here, a new saddle will be in order before too long....How much was your Baldwin and where did you get it?

Hey Rocky, do you work for a magazine publisher? Your name sounds kind of familiar.

The V vibes have smoothed out after I got the suspension tuned in. Pretty close to factory settings except for damping. I am 180lbs so you might have to adjust accordingly.

I ride long distance and got this for a light tourer. Have put about 2k miles on it the last 4 weeks and she seems to be working out great. I did add some Caribou bags and a Baldwin saddle to make life much easier.
