after searching for cruise control devices I decided I would try the old O-ring trick....A 1 1/8 inch extra thick rubber O-ring between the grip and the bar end did the trick....took it out to try it out and it works well...takes a little practice engaging and disengaging but for 99 cents its it ain't bad...by the way...these are very dangerous and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone...:Dhttp://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b129/drzdave58/DSC00105.jpghttp://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b129/drzdave58/DSC00104.jpg

That's probably not the best idea ever.
But hey, if it works... it works!

I couldn't live without the Vista cruise control.

http://www.bobscycle.com/browse.cfm/4,9674.html?AFF=690FGL

It took some slight mods to get it to fit but it sure works well when I'm in a safe area to do it so I could stretch my right arm. The grip tension is all adjustable. Very nice for the price.

I just installed the Kaoko cruise control. Very easy install and operate. Allows you to stretch and get blood back into your throttle hand. Bar end weight matches the stock left side weight well. A MUST have!

which one fits the V?
I looked on their site, and could not find a Versys specific one...

I'd go for that little paddle-looking flap you attach to the grip so you can use your palm to operate the throttle. That's about the limit to what I'd spend on that kind of device. No Iron Butt Rally here.

I've got the one from Manic Salamander. It was nothing more than unbolting the bar ends and bolting these on. The only down side is It doesn't hold very tight so it will stay at one speed for a bit then you'll notice it veeeeeerrrry slowly starting to drop in MPH. All in all though. It works rather well and very nice.

If I would have thought of just spending 99cents on a washer though. Damn.

The ones for the Ninja 650R should fit it I would think.

Sorry for the double combo post

Wow - kind of surprised no one makes a true cruise control for the V? One that would actually control the speed based on sensor input and cut out if the brake or clutch were used? Or maybe the do but the 'jamb the throttle open with a stick' option is more popular for simplicity or cost?

I made a throttle control very easily based on this fellow's.

http://www.imrisk.com/motorcycle/throttlelock.htm

It takes a bit of tweaking to get the tension right (not too tight but enough so it doesn't fade) but it works really well.

Installing an aftermarket cruise control (as opposed to a throttle lock) is a real pain in the ass. It's possible, but requires a lot of work because the bike isn't pre-wired for it. The o-ring solution works well (if not very user friendly) or for ~$20 you can have one of these:

http://www.buhacoff.com/mc/versys/img_5741.jpg

It doesn't keep your speed constant, but it's enough to allow you to rest the right hand as often as you need to.

Get your real cruise control right here:

http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/cruise-control.htm

Actually do a search on Audiovox motorcycle cruise control and you'll get lots of hits. These are real speed control setups using an aftermarket Audiovox universal controller, and should be installable in the V as well. I first "thought" of doing this on my Concours years ago, but my ability to procrastinate seems to outlast my bikes!

The throttle lock is a Vista Cruise (labeled as fits Hondas and pre-82 dual cable Kawasakis) and the handguards are from KTM (with an extra spacer that came with the Shogun swingarm spools/sliders).

Hey Gustavo, sweet handguards!
I've been looking for a set to fit the V and I think you might have done the job for me :)
Can you post a picture of how it looks from the front?

Sorry for getting a bit off topic here.

Hugger is Ermax?

I can't remember which ones I got, but if you call the guy he is way nice and he'll hook you up, he said that the closest fit is still a little small so you have to file off just a little bit of your bar... but since I called him and they weren't busy he machined it out for me... I payed over paypal after he gave me the total...
out of everything I've seen I like these the best, they arn't much more more expensive then most but the design is flawless. its an A+ in my book...

The hugger is by Powerbronze, it's OK, but I think there are better options out there. Its biggest problem is that it doesn't fit flush with the swingarm, allowing way too much crud to find it's way through that gap to the shock and swingarm. It was the only one that was easily available in the US when I got it, so there wasn't much choice.

I think both the Ermax (http://www.ermaxuk.co.uk/pages3/dbc.php?bikecode=212&product=797) and the one sold by Twinshack (http://www.twinshack.co.uk/prods/126.html) will do a better job.

So, which size Vista Cruise to use for my Versys - 7/8 or 1"? and 1-10 how hard to install - 10 being most difficult - thanks! Ovid

use the 7/8 universal, easy to install, maybe 20 minutes

I am working on the Cruise at the moment. Forgot to get 2 relays (clutch and brake cutoffs) but did pickup the vacuum check valve yesterday.

The vacuum servo control (Audiovox CCS-100) is huge (like 3-1/2" OD) so hiding it is next to impossible. The only place it might fit is on left side under the fairing, but the mount will have to be built. There is room inside the swingarm also but again a custom mount would be needed and lots of dirt and trash down there while riding to mess up the servo.

Easy to clamp to H&R crash bar on left side using electrical conduit insulated 1" clamp and plenty of cable to run around behind the battery box and come into the throttle from the rear on right side.

Biggest problem is making a reliable arm mount for the throttle control. I have built one of 6061 that clamps to the OD where the thottle cables run.

I have run down the tach wire and speed wire just need to test (unit has led light to test if making pickups correctly).

Have not looked on right side under fairing, just assumed it was full with the over flow bottle for the radiator.

I took this off my Valkyrie and then KLR. Works well on the flat so you can scratch yourself, but it 'creeps' up or down depending on the terrain.

Like others, I also use a throttle rocker, have done for years.

Is it adjustable for throttle tension ??

I just bought the 8mm one that installs on Kawasaki bars. Unfortunately, the only way to adjust it's tension is through washers they send you. Other than that, it's either on or off. Works well, just don't expect it to keep a constant speed over an extremely long distance.

I use it to hold the throttle, rest my hand and then I make minor corrections constantly by lightly holding the throttle. For an actual lock that keeps one constant speed, the Throttlemeister works much better as I had one on my BMW. The Manic Salamander one just works easily and there's no cutting or placing parts under the grips and I prefer a clean install like that. Unbolt the bar ends, bolt on throttle lock, done in 4 minutes tops.

Gustavo, I started to mount the Vista cruise control tonight but I'm having trouble coming up with an anchor point on the switch case. I trimmed the grip and tube and all is fine there. I glued a plastic piece to the switch case to anchor the Vista but I don't expect it to last. What did you do? This, by the way, is on a 09. Don't know if the switch cases are different from the 08's
