: Handguards!
amir_zwara 07-28-2008, 10:27 PM I'd love a set, but don't know what I need.
I see most people had to do modifications to get them to fit correctly. So my question is... if I want the cheapest (but still effective) handguads, that would require the least amount of modification to get onto the bike.... what do I look for? and Where do I look?
any links, part #s, etc... would be very helpful.
Bicyclebob 07-28-2008, 10:39 PM Acerbis Rallypro II. Check them out at www.motosport.com. Just get them with the stock mounting kit.

The stock mounting kit, as in the one that comes with the handguards yes?
also, do you have these? If so do you happen to have a pic or two that I can view.
Thanks.
Bicyclebob 07-28-2008, 11:16 PM Correct, the ones that come with the kit. I actually use them on my dirt bike. I will take some photos tomorrow and post them for you. You may also want to use the search feature located in the top header on this page. Type in handguards. There may already be some photos posted.

saw this thread the other day but didn't have time to reply and then promptly forgot about it.
I saw these Zeta guards on the black V and I must say they look good to me.
Zeta Handgaurds (http://www.webbikeworld.com/r4/zeta-hand-guards/)
Still trying to find out where I can source them locally. I know a buddy of mine had some Zeta's on his KTM I took for a spin, but forgot to ask him where he got them from.
Li432Paul 07-31-2008, 05:37 PM I have the Zeta armor XC handguards with flushmounted led turn signals and love them. High quality. Here is the info where I bought them.

cool,
thanks Li432Paul, will go and look, and thanks for the part numbers!
Two places I mailed yesterday haven't responded yet.
StonedGP 08-01-2008, 06:55 AM I like the KTM handguards, but didn't want to lose the vibration canceling of the bar end weights. Did anyone figure a way to mount the KTM guards without losing the weights?

I have done this. Just bought longer similar screws and "tube spacers" that I cut to the right length to put the preasure on the middle of the weight. It works ok. Here's some more info about it.
Lots of info about fitting here (also detaild info on how I fitted mine)

I don't think the bar end weights do as much as you think. I installed mine without them (http://www.versys.co.uk/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=45&topic=1782.msg20350#msg20350) and have had no more vibration at the bars than before.

MeanGreen 08-02-2008, 03:41 AM You are probably right, but sometimes "it just make you feel better" ;)
Motodevil 08-04-2008, 11:52 PM Amir, if you've not purchased any guards yet, check this out...
The "CalSci Fairing" post in the "Cosmetic Modifications" section has some Acerbis guards that look the mutt's nuts!!! I will be ordering mine very soon here. They are either Acerbis Multiconcept "E" or "T" hand guards. Here are the links for the Acerbis site.

Hope this helps.
Fukken cheers,
Erik!!!
*EDIT* They look to go on with little to no mods, with the swivel mount.
DBD34 08-05-2008, 10:56 PM I have a set of Barkbusters from Twistedthrottle, they just bolted on, no modifications. Photos attached, great quality but expensive.
Stillupright 08-06-2008, 09:04 AM I installed the Acerbis Rally Pro II handguards this week, went on easy and the only modification needed was cutting the plastic wiring retainers which were replaced with more sturdy zip ties.
I also did an unplanned destruction test on the bar end weights. Got some longer bolts to go through both the weights and handguard and tightened them down, but not excessively - or so I thought. I pushed the centers out of the bar end weights and they fell off:mad: So, like Gustavo, I'll be running mine without the weights
hugerider 08-06-2008, 10:14 AM This thread has given me a quick question about handguards so I'll ask here.
Do they all have a metal backbone, or are some of them just plastic? I'm just curious.
EDIT: NM, Google had the answer for me.
stargazer 08-10-2008, 10:56 AM DBD34,
Could you provide the part numbers? It looks like BB.BHG6 for the guards. Is the mounting kit BB.BSC.STD?
Thanks,
stargazer
DBD34 08-10-2008, 01:49 PM Stargazer, those are the correct part numbers, but you have to add BB.B56 Versys bar ends, another $45.00. I should also mention that there was no conflict with the stock windscreen but we had to shim my Givi to make it work..
Gary
stargazer 08-10-2008, 04:05 PM Thanks very much and for the info on clearing the windscreen. $45 for the bar ends seems a little high but I like the way they fit and the other features so this is what I am going to buy.
Enemy Zero 08-10-2008, 09:05 PM DBD34, do you have any issues with the Handguards with the Givi screen installed? I've been looking to do some hand guards but have been worried about clearance with the Givi screen.
DBD34 08-10-2008, 10:17 PM Enemy Zero, Yep, there is a conflict between the Barkbusters and the Givi windscreen, the Givi is flexible enough so they will work together. To be safe
by buddy installed longer bolts and shims between the Givi and the windscreen mounts. The Barkbusters barely touch the Givi, I should be OK.

Did you have to lose the bar end weights to put these puppies on? i like em

Yes, there is a problem with that setup. I have both and had to take the Givi windshield off to have enough clearance for the bars to turn. They WILL hit the windshield and severly limiit the turning radius.
stargazer 12-28-2008, 06:32 PM Here is a picture of how I used a piece of black plastic to close the cable cut-outs and make the Barkbusters a little taller.
tebbert 12-29-2008, 06:04 PM Does anyone have a picture of the VStrom handguards on the Versys? I recall a thread about it but haven't found the pics.
spiderman 12-29-2008, 09:03 PM Does anyone know of handguards that will work with the Givi screen?
mweaver 12-29-2008, 09:50 PM I used the Cycra handguards with the Givi screen. I also have the Rox risers which makes
a big difference.

Does anyone have a picture that would show excactly how and where handguards and givi screens will interfere? The reason I ask is that i am considering taller handlebars and I wonder if that would help the problem or make it worse. Also wondering if some simple spacers between the windscreen and mount would be a solution. Thanks, John

Took a bit of trimming, I may be looking for other alternatives next winter. They do work well with the Oxford grips. I don't have currrent pictures with the Pro Taper ATV High bars and Oxfords.

Dan, I am curious to know how the ProTaper ATV high bars compare to the stock Versys bend. I have also been considering changing handlebars. The stock bars are very correct for me except i would like slightly higher. I also like having a cross-bar.
Thanks, John
ddouble 12-30-2008, 09:40 PM Hi John,
The ATV Highs move your hands out about 1.5 inches (three inches total). They I have mine adjusted so that they are about the same height as stock but are further back allowing me to sit more upright. Mirror clearance is awesome. I can actually use the mirrors without moving my shoulders.

Thanks for the answer. Couple questions... Would the handguards work OK even without the risers? Also, I notice that Cycra has different models of handguards. Which ones did you buy? Would you have a photo of the handguard mounted with the fork at full lock? Thanks again.
mweaver 12-31-2008, 08:03 PM Already had risers on when I got the handguards, but they probably would have hit the
windshield. The Rox risers are cheap and not only solve that problem but also make
the sitting position much more comfortable.
