I see ads in cycle mag for padded riding shorts or underwear I would imagine its padded for protection but wonder if the padding also adds comfort. Any one use any of these products that might be able to shed some light where the sun don't shine.

For long rides I wear my bicycle shorts. They have a nice pad to help out.

I recently took a short trip and wore my bicycle shorts and thought that it was worse. I have no idea why but it was more comfortable with just jeans.

I am not sure on winter ridding or cold weather riding with underwear. Down here we rather not wear any underwear or padding as the heat take a toll on your skin.

Remove side paddings for the riding pants and feel better now. Just have the knee pads/guards and long boots with mesh jacket.

I do alot of mountainbiking and wear high end shorts for off road motorcyle riding too. There is alot more moving around on the seat with off road riding and monkey butt is more of a problem. The padding on bike shorts is only in the crotch to stop chaffing and provide a bit of sit bone padding.

Doing alot of long distance mountainbiking over the years I have learned how to prevent monkey butt. Best advice is to just keep that area dry, talc works well for shorter rides, but can get overwhelmed by sweat. Then there are creams specifically designed for cycling. They work well to lube everything up, but if you wait till it's sore it's too late. This only helps reduce the pain from chaffing, won't help with sit bone pressure at all.

While riding the V there isn't alot of movement on the seat, so monkey butt isn't likely a problem. Probably more just discomfort from pressure on the sit bones from sitting in the same possition too long. Bike shorts will only help a little with this. Some do have thicker pads though. There can also be pressure on the perineum (the area between the sit bones) that actually gets worse with more padding. In cycling usually the smaller seat that is just wide enough to support the sit bones and has little padding is the most comfortable for long ride, once your butt gets toughened to long hours in the saddle. I change positions alot on the V constantly changing the pressure points so no one spot gets all the pressure.

I tried bike shorts on the V under riding pants and also felt it was more uncomfortable with them on than without. I either just wear underwear or lined athletic shorts under my ride pants.

For long tours rather wear boxer underware , cotton perferably as it absorb sweat and doesn't cut thigh in area.

wearing a short will only increase uncomfortness as there are seams and folds which will cut in and make it uncomfortable.

"UNDER-ARMOR" BABY!
Great stuff. I wear the bike short long cut. Wicks away everything you don't want , no chaffing, no 'cutting' minimal and flat seams, holds your 'junk' in place comfortably..... NO GIG (MONKEY) BUTT!!!!!
Worth every penny. That gos for their tops too. (which they make in the original design skin hugging style ...for faster wicking away...and loose fit for the, more full-bodied...rider/athlete;)).
...and their winter weight gear is 'all that' too!
It's nice to see a product that is ..as advertised...in this day and age.

I am a convert!!!!!:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Underarmor or something similar is good but equally important for long rides in my opinion is to NOT wear anything with a big seam down the center/tailbone area such as jeans. The seam puts pressure right where you don't want it. I wear shorts similar to underarmor and well fitting leather or textile pants with CE armor and they are comfortable for all day in a large part because they fit correctly, don't have any pressure points and don't bunch up.

I have just ordered a pair of these: http://www.ldcomfort.com/.

I've read a lot of good reviews of these on advrider. I'll report back after I've had a chance to use them.

I'm also expecting my Versys' seat back from Spencer any day now. Hopefully between the new seat and new underwear, my backside will be much happier much longer.:)

Couple of weeks back I did about 350 miles in one day with a few friends. Had on the bicycle type shorts from Aerostitch. Sure, we stopped a few times, but I never had any monkey butt for the entire ride. Biggest issue was the heat in traffic, but my butt was fine for the whole ride...:thumb:

Ex Officio baggy underwear+cheap WallyWorld swimming trunks+Stich Darien Lites+Alaska Leather Sheepskin+a Corbin seat=bliss on my long rides.

Baggy and NO seams works for me and the 'boys.

+1 on the LD Comfort. I bought a pair of these and so far I like them. The longest trip with em' so far is about 350 miles. One of the reasons I tried them is the good reviews from some Iron Butt ralliers. Good enough for them....great for me.

I use my short cotton boxer. Smooth and doesn't make any pressure point.
Allows air to circumvent...

You know what. I've been trying SO much underwear for riding, it's insane. But in the end I like Bjorn Borg (http://www.onlineunderwear.nl/bjorn-borg) the best for riding. They're so comfortable, I love them. I used to wear Armani, but they're a bit too short I think.

If I buy the briefs will I get a body like that and attract the matching woman?

Cotton is the worst material for any activity were you will sweat. It gets wet, and stays wet. When I ride a long distance in cotton underwear, once it gets wet, it starts rubbing and hurts.

Ill have to say that the coolest ride I ever took(cool, not cold) was last night. Received my new mesh pants. Put on a pair of damp cotton boxers, and the mesh pants. The breeze through the boxers felts good.:grinangel:
