: Orlando to Indy MotoGP race
daviscr5 05-26-2010, 07:46 PM I'm just fishing to see if there is anyone interested in making somewhat of an iron-butt trip to Indy for the GP race at the end of August. I have a limited time schedule, but would like to leave Friday morning, camp somewhere around Chattanooga Friday night, and push into Indy on Saturday. Probably check out the track on Saturday, watch the race on Sunday and ride back Monday/Tuesday. It's an aggressive schedule, but can't take too much more time off.
Drop a line if you're interested. Nothing concrete yet, but if I can swing the trip, I'll be happy to lead the ride. Or if you're in the Orlando area, let me know, maybe we can link up for a ride.
skindoners 05-26-2010, 08:20 PM I would be interested in that ride to Indy. I usually dont need much of reason for a long ride. I just need advance notice to get time off. I am in Orlando and take off for the gap a couple of times a year. I have not riden my v on a long distance ride yet, but took a klr cross country so this can not be to different.
daviscr5 05-26-2010, 08:30 PM skindoners- sounds good. I think the versys is a very capable distance mount. Or take the KLR. Heck, I rode my 07' sporty 1200 for 250 miles the other day up and around Ocala, so no sweat on the versys. I'll begin planning my "domestic diplomacy plan" with the wife to work this trip in. I'm sure there are plenty of good roads that parallel the highway system north to Indy. Will start researching this week.
antman325 05-26-2010, 11:42 PM What are you doing for lodging?
daviscr5 05-27-2010, 11:29 AM I like to camp and don't get to use my gear nearly enough. I found a thread on the advrider forum where a guy is lending out his 3 acre yard for free in Indy. It looks like a blast. All comments were that the past 2 years had a great camping crowd on his property. When I went in 08' I stayed at the Hampton Inn dowtown. It was nice, but not camping. The only problem with this guy's yard is that there is no shower. I'll research the KOA near Indy and see what it looks like because showers are nice to have once in a while!
Pegasus 05-27-2010, 01:31 PM If you haven’t been to the MotoGP there yet, I have been the last 2 years and can highly recommend getting seats in section H or J.

You can see a great portion of the track and really get to hear the electronics cutting out the engines when they accelerate onto the front straight.
I will be going this year so I hope we can meet up there as I live near St. Louis.
Keep me posted.
daviscr5 05-27-2010, 03:09 PM Thanks Pegasus, "H" is where I was in 08'. Great spot. Will keep the thread posted on the ride and hopefully we can link up-

I was in J last year. Really good location with some good action (crashing, missing corners and crashes). And there was barely anyone there to.
I got a hotel last year that I plan on using this year. Pretty easy to get to from the track. Not too far is a really awesome slick track go-kart if anyone is interested. Think it was called Fast Times.
skindoners 05-30-2010, 09:33 PM I KOA or a clean truck stop for showers is all I need I will order my tent and put in for the time off this week. I am going to have a short trip to the gap prior to Indy if you want to make that run on a weekend.
daviscr5 05-31-2010, 02:30 PM Sounds good. I'm trying to work out the details in the next week. I have a buddy who wants to go as well and am trying to work with his schedule. If he bails, I'm going anyhow, so will keep you posted. In any event, the larger the caravan leaving Orlando the better!
When I checked last week, the Indy KOA still had spaces. Keep me posted on Deal's Gap, but I work most weekends and am going to make the Indy trip my exception(wish I could take more off....).

skindoners 05-31-2010, 04:36 PM If you have days off in the middle of the week thats cool as well .I have every other weekend and days off and in the middle of the week also.
daviscr5 05-31-2010, 08:03 PM Sounds good. I can definitely swing a day trip around Orlando. Clermont/Mt. Dora isn't a bad loop as well as 46 to west towards Ocala or east towards Mims. Mondays and Wednesdays usually work best for me. Let me know if either of those days work for you-

skindoners(name?)- do you have any time to ride on Monday the 7th? Something local. Maybe 50 or 100 miles? If not, I might be able to swing Wed the 9th. I live in the downtown area so can meet anywhere. Local riding is pretty bad, but recommend heading east, north or west.

Vendetta 06-03-2010, 11:22 AM I this for the weekend of August 27-29?

Yes,
We're leaving Orlando for Indy on Friday the 27th. Will probably camp on the west side of Chattanooga that night and head into Indy on Sat the 28th. You're welcome to link up en route. My current route has us staying west of Atlanta to "avoid the yellow spots."
skindoners 06-04-2010, 11:25 AM Daviscr5 hey I have had a massive sinus infection lets try riding on the 16th Wed. I also live near downtown so meeting up anywhere in fine for me. Skindoners it is what has happened over the years of riding when you hit the ground. I had a several buddies and we crashed around the same times donating skin to the ground. lol. Most of the crashes are from idiot drivers in O town. I try not to ride in town very much. Also I have a set of soft GIVI bags 35 liter? Voyager new price 125-130? that I got in a package deal if you are looking for gear for the trip. I dont use them and will let them go cheap if you are interested.
daviscr5 06-04-2010, 05:08 PM Sounds good. I'll leave Wed the 16th open. We could meet up at the College Park Starbucks on Edgewater Drive if that works for you. Say 8 am? If you've never checked out the Ural/Royal Enfield dealership in Holopaw, FL, it's a pretty cool destination that is off the beaten path. Let me know what you think. I'm also going to invite a good buddy of mine who rides a Ducati retro model.
I agree that riding in Orlando sucks! I commute from downtown to Avalon Park on my bike as much as possible. I'm using 50 to stay off of the 408 until it's broken in. Terrible drivers all over....
daviscr5 06-04-2010, 05:09 PM Oh, I have the Happy Trail Tetons on order regarding the Givi bags.
skindoners 06-07-2010, 07:57 PM ok I will be there.
daviscr5 06-07-2010, 09:35 PM Well, the 16th is out b/c I totally forgot I'll be in VA on my first vacation in over a year. Wed the 30th I'll be back and can ride if you have it open. Let's touch base a few days before.
skindoners 06-11-2010, 08:02 PM I can make a run on the 30th.
skindoners 06-27-2010, 08:02 PM Im still ok with the 30th. I can not open the message but i will be there on the 30th.
daviscr5 06-27-2010, 08:12 PM Cool,
Will see you at 8 am Edgewater Dr(College Park) Starbucks this coming Wed(30th). If anyone else wants to join in, feel free. If anything comes up, just give me a buzz at 321-352-1089.
Chris
PS: The route I have in mind will take us up the Space Coast to Mims(Graybeard's Cycle Barn) then west to south back to Orlando. Should be back by lunch time.
