I stayed here in February on a driving trip and really enjoyed it. The restaurant will let you bring your own beer...I don't think that they sell beer.

I love this route! I have been on these roads before and know we are going to have a ball! As far as rooms go, we need to book them now. The guy at the lodge said he only has openings for the weekend of the 19th...4 basic rooms and 3 deluxe are available. Basics have a king size bed and a pull out sofa bed, and deluxe have king and a twin. 2 to a room should be no prob. I was in the Army for a while so it's fine with me. I'll take a sofa. So I will book a room and one of you guys do the same. That will take care of 4 of us.

OK I just booked cabin #203 which is a deluxe cabin with parking garage. It is the one with the king and twin beds. He said #204 right next door is open for now so you guys need to hop on it. The total with taxes was $97 and some change ($85+taxes). There are also a few basic rooms left. Lets do this fellas! :cheers:

Aren't there some routes that get you off of 64 going up? Also, remember that 129 is still closed on the TN end of the Dragon.

30 through Reliance rocks! Real twisty, and opens up a little the closer you get to Tellico Plains.

I have done this route before and enjoyed it, but isn't 64 closed along the river somewhere?

I just did Wayah Rd this past Sunday for the first time. Its twisty and a little rough in some places but a nice scenic road. A guy up there said Deals is re-open now so traffic is flowing normally I would guess. Whatever you guys decide on a twisty route is cool with me.

You ride the Dragon from Deal's Gap to the Overlook, but it is closed down by the lake. Originally TN had closed it at the state line.

64 is open. I rode the Ocoee section of it Friday on my way to middle TN.

129 is still closed just south of the foothills parkway. TN DOT estimates July before it will be re-opened.

That is what I was wondering. Leaving Saturday morning we will have time to ride a lot more than just to Tellico Plains.

Yep, we could hit Cherohala, the dragon, and 28.

My only concern is that with the current route, it will take 7 hours of riding time to get to Tellico as per Google. I've never ridden in that area, :o so I will follow what more experienced riders have to say about it...

Yeah I vote for doing a skyway run or two, or three :D, once we get up there and do the rest on Sunday. This would be non stop riding until late to do all this in a day! Plus that's what we have the rooms for boys!

True, however my Dad lives in California, it's my 5 year old son that wants to spend the day with me. Since I'm just getting back into riding after a 14 year break I don't want to ride with a passenger until I get a little more comfortable at riding. I assume that the plan is to follow your route to Tellico Plains on Saturday. Once we get there, just do whatever we feel like doing and then finish the loop Sunday morning.

They sell beer at the store down the street. The restaurant at the lodge will let you bring your own beer. If you want anything stronger than beer, bring it with you.

I may just go on a ride Friday and spend the night somewhere around Buford and meet you guys Saturday morning then ride with ya'll back to Tellico.

Hows about any of us that wanna meet up Sunday Morning and ride part of this loop? I can't commit more than a day, and from the looks of it getting to the Sat morning ride leaving asheville NC too early...but Sunday looks good, early out, meet up at the lodge for breakfast and join part of Sundays ride.

I'm out too, guess I was wishful thinking, but VACA at the OBX starts that day. My family would kill me after I delayed the vacation from the other side of the state! I wil however be riding down the VRS. I absolutely love riding the OBX even if they are straight and narrow roads. The best part is not waiting in line at the ferry on ocrocoke at 7pm going back.

The secret is to never lean completely on the non-scrubbed part. You don't necessarily need a long scrub ride.
Just lean a little on one corner, then a tad bit more the next corner, so you are on mostly scrubbed tire, and a little bit of the non-scrubbed.
Doing this on roads in the deals gap area will have you golden in just a few miles.
I once picked up a new rear at Wheelers (on the Robbinsville end of the Cherohala), and rode straight across it, gradually leaning a little more each turn.
No slippage, no problems.

We've had my Dad's house on the market since he passed away a year & a half ago and it finally sold, of all days it has to close tomorrow and I gotta be in Chattanooga for the signing, just found out this morning 'cause the VA's been dragging their feet for the guy.

I've had everything ready for the overnight trip and was looking for some quality time alone for a good ride Friday then meeting up with you guys Saturday morning in Buford.
According to Mapquest it's 166 miles thru the mountains from here to Buford so as of now I'm planning on leaving out at 5:30am on Saturday and try to meet you at Atlanta Bread Co. by 9:15.
As long as it's dry I can make good time :-), I got a new set of Pilot Roads that love the twisties!!

Can one or two of you guys PM me your cell numbers in case I have to meet you in Dahlonega or somewhere else......providing there is cell coverage. I'll send my number back by PM.

Do you think we could just use one room since there is only 3 of us? There is a fold out sofa bed, a full bed, and the floor. Just a suggestion to save some $$ if you get no takers.

I got them too. I suggest one last minute change on where we meet. Instead of having Oldkaw have to ride all the way down to Buford, I say we all meet in Dahlonega at http://www.ridershill.com/ . They have coffee and some type of food there and I think this would be a better launching point for our ride. We can still say 9:30 and gas is right next door.

Riders Hill is Closer to Oldkaw. I say we meet at riders hill btwn 9-9:15. If not then oldkaw is coming way down to meet us when we are going up anyways. Cmon fellas its not that big a deal.

I think that is the plan, but I think Vendetta wants to meet at 8:30 and leave Rider's Hill at 9:15. I am fine with either, but I just checked and Rider's Hill opens at 9:00. I think he usually opens the gates earlier that that so you can get into the parking.

Ok, we survived with no injuries! We had Vendetta, antman325, Bad-Tat, oldkawboy and me. The riding was awesome. Other than Highlands, NC traffic was very light yesterday and today. The Tellico Lodge is an awesome place to stay. The rooms are nice and they let us cancel a room and get a rollaway bed so that we had a room for three. The restaurantis good and you can bring your own beer. The breakfast buffett is $5 and awesome.

Glad you guys made it back safe & sound, hope Bill did too since he was riding in the dark thru the mountains.

Great guys & great riding! Glad we got together, it was like Dunkin Donuts.....worth the trip.

I am so glad you guys had a safe and fun trip! Love the route, that had to be awesome! Been a while since I was in Dahlonega, great riding up there. I will keep a watch out for the next ride, maybe I can join you all then!
