: PA Covered Bridge tour - May 8th

So I'm working on a little tour of some of Pa's Covered Bridges. Starting at my house near Pine Grove, Pa. (17963) Saturday, May 1st, and visiting 12 covered bridges - 2 in Schuylkill County and 10 in Columbia County. I don't have the entire route mapped, just the locations of each bridge. The route between each bridge will consist of the road less traveled for sure. This is supposed to be somewhat of an adventure, so I don't want to do too much planning, rather just go by how the spirit moves me. (Planning a quick photo of the bikes at each bridge to document the trip.)

Looks like it will be between 100 -150 miles, but that's just a guess, those back roads add up milage without really getting anywhere. Looking at maybe around an 8am start. Hit the first two bridges near Pine Grove, head into town for a good breakfast and then get on with the journey. Find someplace along the way for a lite lunch and stop for whatever else looks interesting. At the end of the ride I'll fire up the BBQ and cook up some burgers, dogs and BBQ chicken.

Any and all bikes are welcome.

If there is any interest let me know.

Yes I now the title says May 8th, but scheduling conflicts moved the ride to May 1st.

I might have to join you. My parents live near Hazleton so I could come down a day or two before and stay with them. They always like a visit. Then it would be a short trip 60 mi. from their house to pine grove.

Put me down as tentative. Sounds like a fun trip.

Wish I could, but I am going to be in DC that day, picking up my daughter from college. And 8AM is a bit early for me coming from Long Island!

Oh and if you want help with the gps mapping stuff, let me know I have Garmin Mapsource and can help take your points and make them into an actual track. At least then if you deviate from it you can still get to the next one.

Well it turns out I got the date screwed up, long story... Anyhow I'm now going to be doing this ride on Saturday, May 1st. Can't seem to edit the title to make the change. Man do I suck at making plans, I always just seem to go where the wind blows, when the wind blows.

Still open to anyone who wants to join me.

Thanks Camaro, for the offer on the GPS help, but I think I've got it taken care of. If not, that'll just add to the adventure. I would like to eventually get the Garmin Software to play with, but for now there are too many other things to spend money on.

Which Pine Grove are you in? There must be at least 6 listed in MAP QUEST?!!!! Might be interested depending on what happens between now and then. Too many variables at this point to say for sure.

No problem, as long as the weather is decent I'm going either way, so last minute entries are fine. No worries.

Zip code 17963, exit 100 off I-81.

Camaro - catch you next time. Anyword on Mike's windscreen demo?

No, I haven't heard anything about the screen. I think there were still a few people ahead of us. Would have been nice to try out on a trip like this.

It was a beautiful day for a ride. All but 200 miles and about 6hrs, seen 12 of the 197 covered bridges in Pa. And lots of other cool stuff along the way. Did a few miles of dirt roads, a mile or so of abandoned highway and had lunch by the Susqhuehanna River.

Here's a few pictures -

Does look like a nice ride, and a bit cooler in the shade than my weekend spent in the beating sun at the race track. Maybe next time you go out looking for more I can make it.

Camaro - Race track - what do you race? I'm guessing the Camaro... I race Enduros, used to do MX and HareScrambles.

Brothercannon - Vt. has it's fair share of covered bridges too. I may have to come up your way. I'm trying to talk the wife into a ride up the Maine coast later this summer. Nothing for sure yet though.

Yup, I run into covered bridges all the time. I just haven't been motivated enough to plan out a trip based on them.

Actually I race a Subaru (Camaro was my first car), but I was crewing for a Porsche team this weekend at Summit Point in WV.
