: key scratch saver..
RedRiguez 07-10-2008, 11:01 PM I just did a quick little mod to my bike save my scratches made by my keys around the ignition.I had noticed that there was a few the other day and started thinking.. I had some of this vynal film left over that I use for computer modding and got to thinking hey this might work on my bike. This film has a carbon fiber look to it. I just made a stencil then cut it out of the film and stuck it on. Ill be honest it took me two trys to get it right. But I think it turned out nice, the test will be to see if it stands up to the elements like the sun. Ive got a chunk of the film so I can always make another if it wears out. Anyway thaught I would share it with you all to see what you think. You can get the film in several different styles at this website: http://mnpctech.com/. Heres the Pics.

Muffler Bearing 07-10-2008, 11:04 PM Looks alot better than what I was planning on doing - I was planning on "fixing" it with ducttape!
oxman 07-10-2008, 11:06 PM Cool !! that looks dammed good .
nvoelsch 07-10-2008, 11:54 PM Looks good! My other problem with the key is that it isn't smooth getting it into the lock position. I have to move the handlebars a bit to get it there, but my key is starting to twist/bend a bit. I tried to lube it up with some WD40, and it helped, but not enough...
Lukejt 07-11-2008, 07:17 AM Looks sweet!
nvoelsch, try turning the handlebarsa bit back and forth while turning it to the lock position...
Hooligan 07-11-2008, 07:22 AM Looks good to me!
hacktracker 07-11-2008, 08:47 AM My rule, only the motorcycle key goes on the motorcycle key fob. The other keys stay in a zip-up pocket.
It does look trick though.
08 Versys 07-13-2008, 10:25 AM Excellent idea! I only put the bike key in the ignition since I noticed my extra keys were starting to scratch the paint.

RedRiguez 08-03-2008, 09:04 PM No Problem bro I find that this film works but will have to be replace after a while, but who cares its cheap. I had seen some more robust looking film on another site but will have to find it again and try some of theirs to. My current batch of film I got mnpctech.com the link is in my original post. Just one thing if you start selling these I take 50% of the profits....:D
Just kidding..
COBOB 08-04-2008, 06:38 AM No worries. If I start selling them you can have ALL of the profits. I appreciate you doing the hard part.
Bob

My dealer gave me an orientation on how to use the key on the Versys. He told me not to jam the key into the slot but 'slide it' from the left. You'll notice on the left side fo the key slot is a half-round depression. Press the key into that depression and the key will slide to the right pushing open the key slot door. He told me that is one thing he has to fix more often than anything else.
