: versys insurance please help..
fortbethel 07-03-2008, 09:53 AM Hello. I'm new to bikes & am doing research. I've decided on the Versys. I called Progressive & they want $2,061 a year! That's $172 a month! Would/can any of u shed some light on what I really need coverage wise. How I can get this down. Or anyone else who is better insurance wise. I'm 39, live in Phoenix, arz & I have a GR8 driving record. Thanks
trucker 07-03-2008, 10:06 AM I live in Parker colorado, I'am with american family insurance,280.00 a yr full coverage. That also cover's my hard saddle baggs.
Lukejt 07-03-2008, 10:07 AM Make some phone calls, and decide if you really need collision insurance. Most insurers offer a discount of around 10% if you take a motor safety course. Ask about different deductibles. I'm paying less than $200 for theft and liability only through Geico.
haw paw 07-03-2008, 10:22 AM Florida,54 years age,Allstate,$210 full,$500 deductable. Cheers........Lefty.
heehaw 07-03-2008, 12:40 PM That's ridiculous.
Have you checked Rider Insurance? They're pretty cheap.
I'm with Geico in NJ and I think it's around $750 with full coverage and 100/300 limits.
PappaBear 07-03-2008, 01:16 PM Hey guys,
I'm with State Farm, $275.00 every six months.
This sounds about average I think.
I am 43 years old, this might make a diff?

mrb42 07-03-2008, 01:27 PM I got $365/year through Allstate.. shop around.
motorbum 07-03-2008, 01:46 PM I am with NationWide. They have a motorcycle policy, mine is $399.00 a year full coverage and roadside assistance. Check with your local NationWide rep. I didn't even know they had a seperate motorcycle policy.
Oxifer 07-03-2008, 02:23 PM State Farm $280 a year in SD. The only downfall to State Farm is that they only consider the year and the cc's when pricing your policy. So I pay $280 a year for an '08, inline twin 650cc and my brother in law pays $250 a year for his '08 inline 4 cylinder 600cc ZX6R. Plus as of right now they have no system set up to increase your rates for an at fault accident. In other words, you wreck you don't pay more.

450 a year. State Farm. Full coverage $0.00 deductible
30 years old. unmarried. Virginia. I have my car with them too. and my renters insurance. so I may get a discount for that.
fortbethel 07-03-2008, 03:32 PM I wasn't expecting so much feedback & in 1 day. Thanks every1. I think it's clear that progressive was trying 2 rip me off. *sheesh*
demem01 07-03-2008, 04:02 PM Denver, 43 yrs old, no points.
$140/yr - 500 deductible, no medical as I have it already.
Shelter Insurance and I have my car and house with them too
I'm in vegas, 40 years old, clean record, State Farm, $40 a month, $500 deduct., full coverage. What gives? I've been with the same guy 15 years
ddouble 07-05-2008, 11:25 PM 48, full coverage, no deductible, fire and theft, uninsured motorist.
$385 a year for three bikes. The V is almost $160 of that.
Allstate, they also insure two cages, the house and have for twenty-seven years. I did threaten to take my business elsewhere earlier this year when they offered to up my rates. All of a sudden they were very competitive.;)

inthemountains 07-06-2008, 12:45 AM I'm 26, good driving record, and am only paying $411/year with progressive for full coverage in TN. Thats also with the 10% safety course discount. I wonder why in the freak they're asking 2,000...that seems a little ridiculous.:dgi:
asdf38 07-06-2008, 03:42 PM 24, geico liability only 132/year, if you got financed through kawasaki you don't have to have full coverage...!?!?! I might put full coverage on after I turn 25 but I don't want to get screwed so we'll see what happens...
Hooligan 07-06-2008, 06:09 PM 45 married, no tickets, Dariland $251/Yr. full coverage $250 deductable...
Lukejt 07-06-2008, 06:40 PM Time for ME to make some phone calls too. Thanks for posting up all your rates people.

Inthe mountains, thank you. Yea, the guy giving me the 2 grand price was a little odd. I'm calling back. Would you be so kind as to break down exactly what your coverage is. Thanks
lowflyer43 07-06-2008, 08:58 PM First post, but I too wonder whats up. I checked with progressive, and I got quoted $1900. Now that you mention it the guy I talked was a little on the weird side, could this be a pattern?

lowflyer: It really would b creepy if we talked 2 the same guy. I have a theory. I think like 90% of agents don't know a thing about bikes & just assume that bikes cause as much damage as cars & we know that's not the case. I saw a full pg. addy from, 'Allstate' in the most current issue of, 'Men's Journal' making it very clear that they understand motorcyclists & thier willingness 2 work with us. I'm calling Allstate mybe they'll transfer me to an agent WHO OWNS A BIKE!

All the quotes I got changed, once they entered the vin number, they all jumped a little higher, seems its one price by model number and another by vin number??? I ended up with Statefarm, they go by the engine size not the bike style, plus I already had three vehicles with them BUT they don't count atv's and motorcycles on the multiline discount, they beat Geico, I didn't check with Allstate they screwed me once, that was enough.
rapier975mm 07-07-2008, 12:06 PM That is all very strange. I JUST bought a versys 2 days ago. I am a brand new rider...check that. I dont even know how to ride yet! This will be the bike I learn on! Anyway, I contacted progressive today, and they quoted me $500 a year (40 some odd bucks a month). I went with my regular car insurer, Missouri Farm bureau, for $136 every 6 months. No idea why you guys were quoted so high.
rapier975mm 07-07-2008, 12:07 PM That is for full coverage too.
thecreeper77 07-07-2008, 12:36 PM think some of us may need to look inot the fine print of the policys. sometimes you get what you pay for if you know what i mean.
fortbethel 07-07-2008, 02:59 PM Well LISTEN 2 THIS! I called Progressive back & asked what the minimum coverage the state of Arizona would let me get away with & they said $200.00 a year! that's 1800 less! Well this is really becoming an education let me tell u!

I am 39 in Florida with progressive w/ a clean driving record and I got Progressive insurance a few weeks ago. Full coverage, 20/50, 10, 25/50 500 deductible on both with 3,000 on accessories - $604 per year. I too got an extreme quote (like yours) from Progressive on
a gixxer 1000 of $2100 per year. The lady that quoted me on the policy knew nothing about motorcycles. Many people are telling me to try Geico so you may want to check with them. I recommend at least bodily and liability; just in case.

Tem: Thanks. I'm also 39 & have a good driving record but I'm confused. do u own a Versys. I mean r u specifically paying &604 a year 4 the versys? Also are u new to biking cuz I am.
De-Silva 07-07-2008, 06:14 PM My insurance is from Progressive as well.....360 $ per annum for 100 / 300 + under-insured + 500 deductible. Tell the agent it is a street / standard motorcycle and not a sports bike....dont mention Ninja lineage ever! :)
I also have a perfect driving record... I called Liberty Mutual with whom I have my car insurance...and they do bikes via a tie-up with Progressive....not sure if that had anything to do with the good rate...my 0.02
tem1268 07-07-2008, 06:15 PM Yes, I just bought an 08 Versys (GOOD BIKE!) and insured it for $604 per year. The price difference I gave you was between the Versys and a sport (liter) bike. I am relatively new to street biking (legally); but I have owned dirt bikes.

:welcome:
do yourself a favor (if you haven't) and take the safety course to help with insurance rates. Get your minimum gear; helmet, armor jacket; gloves and boots. Then enjoy the heck out of riding.
Do you have a Versys or just considering one?

fortbethel 07-07-2008, 06:54 PM Todd,
Thanks. I'm just about ready 2 buy a Versys. I'm doing this just 4 economical reasons. 2 tell u the truth I'm pretty nervous but one thing's 4 sure I'm sold on the Versys. Thanks 4 your feedback. :)
bszwed 07-07-2008, 08:57 PM Try State Farm. They are a lot more resonable than all the others.
I will be a new rider and the best quote I got sofar was around $44 (R347) per month.
But the excess structure seems a bit harsh.
While I still have only a learners license my excess will be 10% or a minimum of $1282 (R10 000). Once I get my full license this drops to 10% or a minimum of $450 (R3500).
The company that quoted me sections you into age groups, this is the quote for people from 30-40.
Dealership told me they have one other company that might get me a better deal, so I'm waiting to hear from them.
oh... R = Rand = ZAR ;)
inthemountains 07-09-2008, 05:02 PM Fortbethel, I just got the min. coverage with progressive. I don't have all the exact numbers in front of me, but when I do I'll get back to you.
I understand being pretty nervous about finally pulling the trigger on buying a bike. I was the same way. There are so many options out there in bikeworld (and all of the "do I reeeally need it?" questions) that being $7,000k sure on one bike is tough. I will say that I haven't regretted it yet! Not a drop of buyer remorse. It's hard to believe something so economical can be so fun!!! Can I get an amen...
PharmaSYSt 07-09-2008, 05:11 PM Amen
Bear on a bicycle 07-09-2008, 05:40 PM Amen

Amen. Thanks Grizzly Adams. I am encouraged by your post. :)
PG449 07-11-2008, 01:48 AM I use GEICO. My last bike was a Vulcan 2000 cruiser with some accessories. I paid about $225 a year incl roadside coverage. When I switched bikes to the Versys it went up to almost $500. 2000cc vs 650cc, vtwin vs parallel twin, $12k list vs $6.8 list and yet it costs more to insure it. When I asked why the CS rep said it was because GEICO classified the Versys as a sport bike. Thanks Kawasaki. Take the Versys off your website as a sport bike and list it only as a dual purpose please.
