Thanks for the link, but the only place mentionned that is North american is Frog Specialty or e-bay($$$) and in my case, they do not have the Kawasaki Orange color.

Anybody else know of a Canadian or US accessory dealer for hugger and extenda fender

I guess I could order from Frog and have it painted locally.

I ordered the burnt orange color paint so that I could paint the hugger, extenda fender, and Givi luggage inserts. Here are links for the paint suppliers:

US - Color Rite
http://www.colorrite.com/CRPLfactoryColors.php?appID%5B%5D=3179&typeID=2&appYear=2007&appManuf=Kawasaki&IsStreet=1&IsDirt=1&imageField.x=32&imageField.y=9

Canada - Best Buy Autoparts (Color Rite Distributor)
http://www.dpars.com/colorrite_options.aspx?man_ID=934

Hope that helps.

this is great help. Just a few questions.

Did you use the spray can and if so did you use their base color before and clear after?

Also, where does your extenda fender come from?

thanks for the good tips!

Goobiwan,

went to look on the superbikestore website and could not find the Ermax hugger. They just had their version without the chain guard.

Send them an email, and ask for it specifically. They will be able to source. They were quite good...

actar911,

I purchased the extenda fenda from ebay. The seller was 'biking direct', but the manufacturer is Pyramid Plastics from the UK.

I have not used the paint yet, but will report on it as soon as I get a chance.

Thanks guys,

sent superbikestore an e-mail and they responded that they do not carry Ermax anymore that these products are distributed by street fighter by design out of CA

www.streetfighterbydesign.com

I did not see any parts for the Versys on their website, so sent them an e-mail.

Will keep you posted

sales@ermaxuk.co.uk is the contact address. I fitted both the hugger and the belly pan and they look really good on the bike.

I'm definitely a fan of the Ermax hugger, but would have liked to try the Pyramid Plastics as well... Both in my opinion look very good.

My only complaint with the limited installation instructions, is the clamp bracket for the rear break line, and oh, one other thing, the black tie-wrap that you're supposed to affix to the left side swing arm. On the http://www.versys.co.uk site, alot of folks have not put it on?? Me, I did, and will try and hide it appropriately.

I got this one, came from Germany via UK and with the weak US$, its was expensive---but I'm worth it.

Chose this one because it had the best coverage of the electrics in front of the rear wheel. Some folk on in the UK who have had their Versys a long time have complained that the constant stream of water the electrics bath in below the seat has caused some problems. This hugger should eliminate that issue.

Same with me. I saw it on the site and made the order, but then called yesterday to ask if they even have them in stock. Jennifer politely cancelled my order with no questions. I would not say they are frauds, many internet companies publish items they do not have in stock.

Order from Frog Specialties.

Philippe expects an order within two weeks and he charges about $50 less than Versyshop. Email him for an order form. Super nice guy to deal with and you can practice your French if you want.

Danomar, please indulge my reasoning for using the 'fraud' charge. On advrider.com,on the 'versys owners checkin thread, page 64,'kynosis' wrote about his/her experience.Over the course of 2 months he hassled with the company. Now I know that they have had time to adjust their website.Their lack of attention to this for whatever reason is to me fraudulent behavior.Just my humble opinion,certainly...p.s.,thanks for the info on frogspecialties.Do you have to know French? I took Deutsch.

Thanks for the insight on the 'kynosis' incident. That is inexcusable.

Philippe at Frog Specialties understands English perfectly. No need for French unless you want to practice it. Sorry for possible misunderstanding.

I got the hugger today from Superbikestore.Well,I finally have it on ,but, what a royal pain in the arse.It does look PDG,but the installation took me an hour and a half, with my son helping.I am no mechanical whiz type, but I am no klutz either. The side where the chain is mounts with two 2 piece brackets that slide together at the bottom via interlocking 'lips'.You have to mount a thin piece of rubber between the 2 pieces against the swingarm, and slide the 2 pieces together,on on either side of the arm obviously.Well if it were not for Pam Canola spray for lube I would probably still be fighting the things. Then getting the 2 separate bracket mounts lined up to align with the holes in the hugger provides more fun.At any rate be forewarned,if you get a Powerbronze hugger,it is a challenge to mount if you are not gifted at assembly type endeavors. It is just seriously frustrating. But,again the thing looks great IMhO. Cheers.........Lefty.

I bought the unpainted rear hugger from TwinShack.com last week; it arrived today.

I went to Industrial Finishes, and they couldn't believe the price for the passion red paint at Color Rite and Sherwin Williams. They're finding me a color at an affordable price.

A friend of mine will shoot the hugger plus my OEM luggage trim as soon as I can get the paint.

Will post pictures probably next week or so!!

Does anyone know if there's enuff room for a 160/70RZ 17 with an Ermax hugger? From most of the pix I've seen it looks like it will only work with the oem tire.

FJS
07-04-2008, 12:02 PM
Ratmonkey, why would you want to put that size anyways when the OEM IS 160/60/17?
I have a Piramid hugger and there is no room for the profile you want (70).

FJS thanks for the info. It wasn't a matter of want I had to get a new tire immediately and my dealer gave me a better deal on it than the OEM. So I guess I won't get a hugger till it's time for a new tire.

Hey Ratmonkey,

Tried to help, maybe nextime you can shop around for your tires when you have time, there are many in the OEM size; you would be surprised and good ones too. I ordered myself a set of Michelin Pilot Power 2 CT because of the price I was offered and how much better they are than the OEM for my use.

The reason for the fit is that with speed the tire will grow by cintrifugal force and it will rub up against the hugger and I would not advise one untill you can later on change back to the OEM size; you don't want and accident.

Hope that helps a bit more and be safe

Cheers

The Pyramid Hugger appears to be available from this company in Nevada:
http://www.amotostuff.com/thestore/pyramid.html
They have Black and Carbon Fiber options with the CF being more expensive. The black hugger on their site says it is CF but the price difference makes me wonder. Has anyone used either one?

I just sent for info on ordering the Ermax hugger from Frog Specialties. I wonder if the Brushed Aluminum is actually aluminum or if it's painted to look like it.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I've been looking for a hugger for mine and I got to thinking, most color batches for paints and inks are based off a pantone color system aren't they?

I work in a printshop and could very likely get a pantone color match to the "passion red" which should make a color match MUCH easier from just about any automotive painter.

Looks like a great add on, I just cleaned up that area on my Versys today, a lot of road grime was already building up. I used Shout fabric cleaner to break down the road tar on the rims and exhaust, worked like a charm. I'd like to get a hugger one day.

Got one from http://www.superbikestore.com/versys.htm

Not bad, install was easy but uses 2 clamps over the swingarm. Not real noticeable but not as clean as other huggers on here.

Black plastic, no paint or clear coat

It keeps road crud off of your shock and swing arm pivots.

Some of the folks over in EU have found that overtime and riding in less than dry roads lets a lot of gunk and stuff get into the exposed electronics under the seat area and cause problems. That is the reasoning for the hugger, it just helps things stay cleaner and it looks better with one I think. :thumb:

FINALLY! Pictures of my completed projects!

Had to cut about 1" off the Givi windscreen to allow enough room for the Barkbusters handguards while turning.

Painted the OEM saddle bag trim and the rear hugger. The rear hugger is from TwinShack, and the red paint is a custom mix from Industrial Finishes.

Just need a couple of frame sliders and a rear trunk, and I'll be done spending money for awhile!

Hey Nvoelsch,

What paint did you use. It looks great. Did you wet sand between coats? I have the same hugger and used a custom mixed spray can. It was very fine powder like spray the requires the clear coat to bring out the full colour. The colour came out great but the finish was not high gloss, more like satin. Any tips?

Thanks,
Colin
