I temp installed a set of pro taper "CR High" bend bars, but they were too close to the tank. I think a couple of our esteemed members are using the "ATV" bars with success. The dirt bike bars would work fine with a set of risers.

what about any direct fit bars? the controls on both sides have a nub that fits in a small hole on the bars and i have those dr650 bars but the holes dont match up and im having a hell of a time drying to drill a new hole and have everything fit right i dont want to cut the nub off of the controls cuz it keeps them from moving on the bars....what to do anybody install aftermarket bars wanna sell their stocks?

Maybe you should start a thread in the classifieds, in the "wanted" section. I'll bet you'd get much better responses there...

it is really easy to measure, mark, and drill those two holes.

Just apply some masking tape to the handlebars you want to install in the areas where the nubs on the controls will contact the handlebars. Tighten the control mounting brackets in the position you desire until the nubs contact the masking tape and leave an imprint. This is where you will drill the mounting holes for the nubs.

I have the Moose "CR High" bend bars on my V. Along with the CRG bar end mirrors and some cheap aluminum bar end plugs. Same set up as was on my old KLR and the Buell after that, and now is on the V.
About mounting the controls. I accidentaly broke the little nubs off the pods when trying to rotate the OEM bars far enough forward to feel good, so I used a couple layers of black electrical tape underneath and then tightened them down. They don't move without a fair bit of work now.
IMO this really changed the feel of the bike. The bars are best mounted so the cross bar is straight up from the clamp like a trials bike, not leaned back like a lot of people seem to want to do. You may get to lean forward a bit, but the whole angle of the bars is spot on to my hands this way. Mounting this way leaves about 2" of clearance to the tank.
Anyhow, my $.02.

ps. They are like $15, so you aren't really out much more than the time to mount them and try them out.
