The owners manual says to lube the chain every 400 miles with 90W gear oil. However, the bike came new lubed with the wax type lube. I know if I use the gear oil it will make a heck of a mess with fly off. What have you guys been using?

hello scubs,
installed the scottoiler from day one n chain has thin film of oil on it all the time. was using motul chain lube on the VT600 previously, but the sticky goo left behind on the front sprocket n rear rim was a right mess. check it out at their website www.scottoiler.com

If you dont do any offroad riding then you can use a chain wax , but for on and offroad rather use a chain lube .

I've used this Alisyn product on many bikes for many years with stellar results. In fact I've never had to replace a chain or sprockets on a bike that I've used it on.

How many miles on the bike/chain you didn't replace in how many years?

When I apply chain lube, I do it at night after a ride and then it sorta dries overnight and much less flings off.
That's my $0.02

I've been using Dupont Teflon Multi-Use Dry, Wax Lubricant.WebBikeWorld & MCN both rave about it. You can get it at Lowes for about $5.00 for a 11oz. spray can.

I've been using the same stuff with good results so far, make sure to clean the chain well before using it, I like that it dries quickly and does not leave a oily mess afterwards to clean.
Tried chain wax a while back, but found that it really attracted dust and dirt and felt that it probably wasn't doing the chain any good with all the grit.
