Curious new (well new to US) bike. Not as stripped down or as versatile as the V, but would be interesting to give it a test.

I remember when Hondas were really great, cutting edge bikes, now they just make weird crap that people just scratch their heads about. I think this thing was designed to compete againt the V-strom 650. But the Wee would walk all over the honda.

Spackler 09-17-2009, 10:09 AM Short of leftover 919s, there just isn't anything in a Honda showroom that interests me. This bike has potential but i think it misses the mark, at least for me.
Versysbob 09-17-2009, 10:40 AM I like it and will be interested to look at one closer. I'm an old BMW rider and good reliable tourer's are what interest me. I don't ride 2 up and the power would be fine for what I like to do with a bike. Like the bags and fairing too. Honda quality and dealer network is a big plus too. The price doesn't bother me either. 5- Speed trans is OK as long as it's geared correctly.
What concerns me is the service intervals. I though I read somewhere they recommend checking the valve clearance every 6000 miles. I would not like that expense looking at all the tupperware to get through just to see the heads. At $100. per hour too.:badidea:
I love that my Versys doesn't have to have that until 26,000 miles. That's more like it. I'll have my Versys with Givi V35 bags on the road touring for a long time though as much as I have fallen in love with it!:exactly:

HA! Forbidden love child :p ! Also the article mentions how the integral bags have "pass-through feature" where the bags have openings you can open in each bag then pass something through. Interesting... Check it out:

DaveH 09-25-2009, 01:50 PM I rented on in the UK in '07. Deauville NT700 it's called. Folks over there nick named it Dullsville. It fits!
It worked fine for me but it's no powerhouse. V2 is pretty buzzy at freeway speed. One thing I didn't like the sidecases didn't come off.

Element 11-18-2009, 04:23 PM Typically Honda, refined but underpowered. Get the new VFR or an ST if you want a Honda Tourer.
It's ok looking but I think I'd go for the ST1300 as a second ride. Not that much more money and twice the bike, comfort, and long haul capability. The ST along with the V might be a good combo to have, and I don't doubt the V is more fun to ride than that 700.

Jungmann1 11-18-2009, 05:23 PM I threw a leg over one at the Dallas IMS show last weekend. To me, it seems like a good bike for someone who should probably be riding a scooter but doesn't want the stigma of the scooter to go along with it. Should be a nice, safe, dependable ride for the commuter. J.
potus2012 11-18-2009, 06:38 PM I'm thinking stabbing the old VFR 750 V-4 in there would greatly improve the bike. Update the suspension a bit and It'd be a great universal sport tourer commuter. As opposed to the Interceptor that is a good sportbike you can marginally tour on if really motivated, or the ST that is almost a Goldwing.

this engine is used in honda transalp (xlv700) also.
it is well sold in europe,but believe me in the real road its much slower than the versys.calculate also that the range of mpg in versys is much better.i dont see any reason to buy something so technologicaly outdated ,you must love ,or pity honda tooooo much to buy it
Skeezix 06-09-2010, 12:08 AM I sat on a NT700V at the dealer last week. The sales guys said Honda USA was 'testing the water' by bringing the bike to the USA. Apparently there are only a limited number that were imported. It actually seemed really nice, but $10,000!! You gotta be kidding me! It didn't even have fully adjustable suspension. While it looks very 'vanilla', I'd love to test it out. Too bad the local Honda dealers don't due test rides.
Capn Kirk 06-09-2010, 05:20 AM I considered the NT700V on my quest to move from a cruiser to a sport tourer. I agree with most previous opinions. Overpriced for what you get. I don't regret the Versys at all. The V fits me like a glove.

Motocycle Consumer News did a dyno on it and it put out 53.43 hp at the wheel and 40.33 lb-ft. The dyno testing they did on the versys was just shy of 60 and 44.3. I think your numbers are Hondas calculated numbers. Also, a 1/4 mile of 13.73 @ 95.2 versus the V at 12.7 just shy of 100 mph. and the 0-60 is almost 1.5 seconds slower. Only adjustment on the suspension is preload on the rear and fuel economy is worse. The only pros i see are storage, wind protection, brakes (maybe weight may be a factor 125 ft vs the V 129 ft), and cost to replace the tires only has 150s in the rear.

He said his Vstrom was 10 times the bike. Besides all that, you can buy a new Versys for almost half of what they want for the NT700.
If you are looking for a very sedate commuter this might work, but don't look for any fun.

Actually less than half. I was searching craigslist as i always do because i am addicted to motorcycles and i found a leftover 09 green with 0 miles for 4990 OTD!!!!!! I couldnt believe my eyes. The dealer says he has 1 left and that is the price, no gimmicks.
80-watt Hamster 06-09-2010, 12:12 PM This bike looks great on paper, suspension notwithstanding. I ended up on a Versys because I wanted a touring-capable bike, but also ~50 mpg. The big tourers all seem to be 40 mpg machines (or less!), with much more snort than a novice like me really needs. That said, if the NT700 had been on my radar and available when I was shopping last fall (and I'd had the extra three large to drop), I'd probably be riding one right now. Although if the expressed opinions here are to be believed, I should be glad it wasn't.
Also have to agree with Element; I've had Sprint on the brain for a while as well. The Tiger was duking it out with the Versys when I was shopping, but the price and mpg differences were too much. The Street Triple, though, that really pushes my buttons. Everything I love about the V so far distilled and amplified! Except for (again!) the mileage. I'm a little OCD about that.
