: Love-child of the ST1300 and Versys?
55wed55 09-07-2009, 03:57 PM I guess Honda is comming out with a new bike for 2010. The NT700V. In the review it says, Style-wise, the NT700V looks to us like the forbidden love-child of the ST1300 and Kawasaki Versys. Which really would be a Romeo and Juliet romance if it were true…
What do you think of this bike?

Bear on a bicycle 09-07-2009, 04:29 PM Well, it seems a little heavy. It has a 5 speed tranny. It's a 680cc motor. I think it sounds slow & heavy, at least on paper. I'm not sure where the get any resemblance to the Versys, other than being a little odd & under 700cc's.
mcampana 09-07-2009, 04:38 PM I like the cb1000r myself.
maloy 09-07-2009, 06:14 PM That isn't any thing other than a spiffied up TransAlp without the larger front wheel.
They would do better to just offer the TransAlp, but it looks like they are short changing us again. I wanted one of them (TransAlp) before the Versys, but neither was sold in the US at the time.

Bones 09-08-2009, 01:34 PM The NT700V is not a TransAlp. It's a Deauville, which has been a European model since the 90's. The US model looks like the model that came out in Europe in 2006. Speaking as someone with both an ST1300 and a Versys, I think it is more like the ST than the V. It has good wind coverage, a larger adjustable windshield, standard panniers (not removable, but there is a passthrough), optional factory top case and heated grips. Not a road burner but apparently loved by its fans.
More here (http://powersports.honda.com/2010/nt700v.aspx).
The Varadero, which is available in Canada, is more akin to a TransAlp's lot in life.
maloy 09-08-2009, 01:53 PM I'm basing it upon the engine. It shares many of the same parts and assemblies the TransAlp share. And I did not refer it to being a TransAlp.
They share similar development around he same powerplant.
The TranAlp would in my opinion sell better over here.

Noted.
FWIW, the NT700V is a Deauville (http://ww1.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/DispatcherServlet?hidActionDetail=viewproductdetai l&hidAction=Lookup&hidProductID=88&hidSelectedProductCode=NT700V+ABS+Deauville&hidProductName=NT700V+ABS+Deauville&hidMSGID=9&hidMSGCode=TOURING&hidMSGName=Touring&hidBan#focusHere) in US spec so the comparison to a Deauville makes more sense, that's all. Perhaps the TransAlp would sell better.

When my Versys is tuckered out, and American Honda does not have the Varadero down here, this NT700V is my next bike.
tsunamichop007 09-15-2009, 09:37 AM looks like a restyled kawasaki concourse
contractor 09-15-2009, 10:00 AM In my book this Honda has a lot going for it...Mainly shaft drive, abs, built in bags, adjustable windscreen...My oh my...:o
Spackler 09-15-2009, 10:49 AM Looks like a baby ST1300, which to me is a junior Goldwing. A little less plastic would go a long way.

Yeap as an owner of an ST1300 I am very happy to see the Deauville coming to NA. A middleweight sport TOURING machine is what is needed here. The only two the come to mind are the F800ST and the VFR. Maybe, just maybe I can get my wife on a smoother riding sport TOURING bike instead of a modified SV, GS or what have you. If I can get the seat down around 30" I will buy one for sure.
TransAlp selling well in NA? How well did the 1000 Vstrom sell last year? Just because we want it doesn’t mean it would sell here. The American market is either cruisers or SuperSports and Honda knows it. That’s why we don’t get the CB1000R, it wouldn’t sell for crap. How many 919s or 599s do you see on the road compared to CBRs or VTXs? Hell one of the best SPORT TOURING machines to ever come out of Japan doesnt sell worth beans here because of its little 800cc engine (VFR).
kmahorney 09-15-2009, 03:08 PM If it runs anything like the 750 Shadow, it will be a disaster. Slow and heavy.

Isnt the shadow and air cooled twin? Its hard to make any power with air cooling...... ;)
kwanjura 09-16-2009, 10:10 PM Give me the VFR 800 motor, keep the weight at about 560 lbs wet and I would consider one.
contractor 09-16-2009, 10:23 PM Spec sheet lists weight @ 562 lbs / wet...;)
coxwain 09-20-2009, 04:04 AM we have had the ugly bug in the uk for many year its a big heavy lump of a bike and their is a major flaw with it , and it killed off the sales in the uk , the first service , at 500 miles the bike has to have the valves done and reset and it was costing around $750 for a first service and it was the same with the new transalp and that killed off the sales ,,,,,, and it was dog slow
