For anyone interested, here are links to photos from my 5 weeks in Iceland. It was an amazing trip, beautiful country, generous and friendly people. I even rented a vstrom for the last day there (just to tie this back into motorcycling). If you get the chance just go, especially those that live on the east coast it is only a 4 hour flight!

Those pics look great, definitely would love to visit some day. Was that as part of a group? And then your own trip? And I see you've had some international company including at least one Czech.

I was part of two different volunteer work camps while I was there. 2 weeks in Reykjavik where we did renovations and clean up on a hostel as well as worked with the city. 2 weeks in Eskifjordur on the east coast mostly just removing an old fence high on a hill (a lot of work!). The last week I spent hitchiking around the north and west coasts and the last day was on the vstrom. The Czech in the pictures was part of my last work group and she joined me for the last week of adventure. It was an amazing experience partly because I was working with people from France, Greece, Israel, Estonia, Slovenia, Italy, Spain, Korea, China, Germany and Japan. When we were hitchiking we were picked up by Icelandic, Polish, Spanish, Italian, German and British people. There were 14 people in my first group and 16 in the second. I rarely met another Canadian or American.
I am planning to go back next summer as a group leader for a few months, and debating shipping the v to Europe first....although there is a nice used ktm adventure on craigslist at a good price.
