Central Arkansas. Temp. @ the end or the day 85. I went on a ride with a group of about 15 sports bikers Sat. I've been with a smaller group about a month ago. The weather was a good as it gets. I was usually in the rear, as I'm still new to sports riding. They ride hard and fast. I can keep up, but sometimes seem to be on the edge of my skill level. I'm still learning to trust what the Versys can do. They seem to be impressed by what the Versys can do. I altered my seat the night before the ride. usually at about 2 hrs, my butt says stop!! I rode the 450 miles almost 12 hrs with no pain. We stopped for gas fill ups about every 2 hrs, and for lunch.

Hi. Really cool that you are enjoying riding with a group of more experienced riders *and probably learning a lot along the way*. Just always listen to YOUR inner voice regarding safety. You mentioned nonchalantly that you altered you seat the night before *so it was probably fairly simple* and got such a great improvement in comfort, so I would really be interested to hear what seat modification you did?

I can't remember where I saw the mod. I did a quick search here, but nothing looked familiar. Someone had a post about taking the foam off the pan and starting from underneath. What I did was to cut the foam out of the bottom of the seat where my cheeks rest. I took about 1 1/2" out of the middle and contoured the cut to the ridge on both sides. Looked like a scoop. Then I added 3 layers of 1/8" x 2" foam from where the seat meets the tank down to the bottom of that part. There is a post showing this, I just can't remember where I saw It. Cost to me ,nothin but about 1 hr. time

I found the post I was looking for. Look at the post (Yet another seat mod.) this is where I got the ideal.

Actually if you were stopping every two hours that is pretty good time. Assuming you stopped for lunch, 2 fuel stops and 2 other rest breaks, that's about 3 hours stop time. Keep it off the super slab and get above 45 mph average and your doing good.
