OK OK, I know it looks crude. It is. My modding skills are nil, unfortunately.
But your butt (sorry for the pun) doesn't know what it's sitting on.
I just know it feels 100% better than the OEM plank.
For less than 15 dollars out of pocket, I bought 2 square yards of lightweight polar fleece fabric and a small can of Elmers Craft Bond. I cut a piece that was about the same shape as the entire seat. Subsequent layers were ever smaller, biased towards building up the front portion of the seat. At the end of edit #1, there were perhaps 3 layers of fabric at the rear/mid area of the seat, and perhaps 6 layers up towards the tank. Each layer of polar fleece was secured with a light spray of the Craft Bond which is very sticky.
I commuted on the first version of my creation for several weeks and found it wanting. The solution was to further build up the layers, especially towards the front and front flanks. I think in the end that there may be about 10 layers of fabric around the tank.
I'm very happy with the outcome. The photos show a crude velcro strap I had around and that I ended up using to secure the pad to the seat pan. It works fine, but my intention is to use some more discreet method to keep the pad held down, maybe elastics.
Well, that's one man's solution to the most gross shortcoming of the Versys.
I hope my post helps motivate other Versysers to give it a try rather than to continuing to suffer, feeling that there's no recourse (under $400)... :thumb:
