Just a quick question, I know what the manual says but I wanted to know what services you guys perform and when? Like how often do you change the oil, lube the chain, clean the chain, etc etc.

I have almost 1800 miles on mine and really haven't done anything except the first service. Also, I have never lubed a chain on a motorcycle before, I did years ago on my ATV's but i think it might be a hassle seeing as though I have no stands.

Give a lazy man some tips here :)

Been around a very long time, but the idea and product keep getting refined. I got the dual-tip injector. Fit on the Versys very nicely, even the vacuum line was easy to install.

Scottoilers are a bit pricey, but if you hate lubing chains, this is the ticket. All you have to do is fill up the tube every once in a while and wipe off the chain from time to time.

For home lubing I just put my rear wheel bike stand up and spray the chain as I rotate the tire.

On the road I made my own oiler very similar to Baddone's but I just drilled a hole in the plastic chain guard right above the chain and let the oil slowly drip over the chain via a tube.

Recently I just took out the bottle and tube, and now just spray my chain every few hundred miles or so just as it sits there. Who cares if maybe a few links don't get a direct spray, it will distribute as I ride.

Have 17,000 on my chain and it seems to look like new yet with no evident stretch areas.

I'll be picking my V up within the next 2 weeks or so. Right now, I only have a track bike, so I'm used to doing lots of maintenance.

I do year brake fluid flushes, yearly coolant change (because the track bike gets water only for track season and anti-freeze over the winter). I will probably do the same with the V since it's easy once I have the stuff out and all.

I lube my chain the night before every trackday so it's dry and doesn't fling off. I'll get a rear stand and do the V about every 500 miles.

I change the oil often on my track bike, and since the V only takes 2 quarts, I'll probably do it more often than the manual suggests (proabaly every 5000 miles).
