I am picking up a couple 3Gs phones for my wife and I next week and I was wondering if anybody has tried to use the iPhone's GPS or compared it. I could read reviews all day long from techies but... I wanted to hear from the Versys folks that use GPS / iPhones.
Is it any good ? Are there 3rd party apps for it that you like/dislike ? :feedback:

There is software called GPS kit that is a nice little add on. It gives tracking, but really drains the battery fast. The GPS is features are ok, but unfortunately you can't use the GPS with Data turned off. This makes it useless if you want to use it in another country without getting burned in roaming fees. For around home though it is ok.

Don't have an iphone but using my Nokia e71 as a GPS.
The E71 also doubles up a MP4 player.
I don't put it on the bike for security reasons.
I put it in my aerostich and hear the direction and insructions using a earphone.
Don't always use it as don't go into the city much. It works though.

Wait till Tom Tom comes out with their app for the 3Gs. It looks great, and supposedly it is just going to be a one time fee. No monthly fees. I hope... Love my 3Gs. It's my 3rd iPhone.

+1 for machog I live in Tennessee around the moutains and was going to use the cell for GPS. The problem is that around here you go into the moutains you lose service you lose service you lose GPS. And that was the main use area for me. So for me useless. Although if you live in a flat area and get good cell reception all over then it might be an option for you. But it does cost extra every month for the service and today you can pickup a good basic GPS for around 100.00 to 150.00 dollars. And it has a much better range. So if your paying say 10.00 a month extra for the GPS service then after ten months or so you can have a paid for GPS that you can use for nothing.:interesting:

I also have a nokia e71, unlocked not the AT&T branded e71x. I have yet to use the gps on the bike but it is one on my options. I plan on getting a Garmin Zumo or a Tom Tom Rider. I would rather have a gps designed for on bike use. Just my 2 cents.
