Okay so I have been using my bike for everyday travel but is has been raining almost every single day and it is starting to get to me. My upper body is fine but my gloves and my pants get soaked. So I was downstairs and came acrost both tents that I have. Call me crazy but can I use the rain cover that comes with the tents and make sort of like a pair of rain pants. I am not looking to make a fashion statement but there there and they work well when I use to go coming. I just do not have the money right now to buy more gear. What do you think can it be done?

I think that the rain cover would soak through when in contact with your riding gear. A cheap set of rain gear is really pretty inexpensive.

As I stated I just do not have the money right now to buy anything.

Tent parts won't work. You'd be better off cutting holes into a heavy duty garbage bag.
Go to Walmart, Target, Kmart and buy a rubber rain suit. They can range from $5 to $30 depending on what you get. Heck, go to your local thrift shop like Goodwill and buy used rain pants. You can probably find some for less than $5.

I use this http://www.redledge.com/products/view/id/113 and the pants.

Wear it over the top of my supposedly waterproof riding gear. It packs up very small, about the size of a soup can and is 100% waterproof.

For totally waterproof gloves I went to the local hardware store and bought some size 10 (largest) rubber gloves and put them over the top of my regular gloves.

Big thing about RL jacket, its very thin so you can wear the hood under your helmet and it stops the rain from going down your neck!

With the above, I've been out in Colorado thunderstorms, ridden 150miles and stayed 100% dry.

Well i was thinking of a 10 dollar investment for a cheap suit . Kinda like the cost of a tank of fuel .

Have you checked out the Frog Togs? I've seen them in the store but don't know anyone that owns a set. Very thin, very packable. Claim to be 100% WP. Anybody jump in here?

Spelled it wrong. Frogg Toggs Road Toads is what I was after. They look pretty sweet. Yes, I read the part about being broke. Me too. We're window shopping now.

I was watching a video on YT of a guy explaining the things he takes on long motorcycle trips. When it came to raingear he mentioned how his frogg toggs are terrible. www.youtube.com/billmaa

Rode to Alaska with a guy wearing Frogg Toggs. By the 3rd rain day he had duct tape over quite a bit, and several days later he bought something at Walmart to replace them, and said he'd never buy another set! My "Motoboss" 2 piece rainsuit (from Cycle Gear: $39.95 reg price, $19.95 on sale) zipper FAILED on our FIRST rain day, but the full length velcro closure sealed PERFECTLY, and I was dry for the whole trip with MANY rain days. (Bought a new one for my next Alaska trip, next Thursday... :goodidea:).

Met a guy at the local bike shop yesterday afternoon who echos that. Said his Frogg pants tore in several spots first time he wore them. And he rides a big cruiser (Road King) like mine, so he's got a good big windscreen that blocks most of the wind. Two negative reviews is good enough for me to stay away. Has anyone had a good experience with Froggs? (And perhaps I should now apologize for hi-jacking this thread.) :sorry:

Versysred,

I use a pair of gortex rain pants that I got issued in the military for rain pants.

They are heavy duty, zip up about to the knee to put on over boots (their designed to go over combat boots) and pack into a pretty small space when not in use.

You should be able to find a pair in an Army Navy Surplus store, or maybe even a Goodwill or other thrift store.
