So,

Despite having dropped the bike last week I still took the time to install my Hella Supertones which arrived in the mail the same day. They were a breeze to set up (and my left arm wasn't even working too great at the time).

I repainted the red grills black to match the underbody on the Versys. I affixed the two horns to two bolts that hold a bizarre piece of bent sheet metal on the bottom edge of the radiator. A little blue Loctite to hold them steady. The relay is attached to a second hole on the old horn's frame bracket just below the radiator (I've remove the old horn and it's little extension bracket entirely). This made things a lot easier since I didn't have to re-rout the old horn's leads which activate the Hellas' relay. All the wires run behind the fairings and under the tank. 2wires have to go directly from the battery to the relay to power the 66 watt each power hungry horns.

I just went on a short ride and everything is holding steady. The horns sound about as loud as an ocean liner. Honestly, they're just downright unpleasant without a helmet on. Don't hit this one by accident while trying to shut off the turn signal :)

Not that the stock horn is bad at all, but these will get people's attention a lot quicker! Well worth it and less than 100$ overall, wire and plugs included.

I'd recommend you put a fuse inline at the battery. Also, if that particular relay isn't waterproof, it'll give you problems sooner or later because it's exposed to spray.

Nice pairs!:thumb: and good pics.

Agreed with Ttpete. Important to keep your relay dry and clean.
Fuse before the battery to prevent any frying of wires (overcurrent).

Thanks for the tip. I'll pick up a fuse holder tomorrow. The relay is sealed with epoxy, but I'll keep an eye on it. If need be I'll move it.

I wonder if you would need the relay if you only replace the stock horn with one Hella unit. Granted, it would be better to have both, but plug and play simplicity is not a bad deal either...

Hi Rponiarski,

Used a single one Hella two tone horn with the existing wiring and setup before fitting the stebel nautilus. Did not use a relay for this single hella. It was okay and also pretty loud... but decided to go louder.
Test on each horns (one 400Hz Low tone and the other 500Hz high tone). Its combine decibels was 110db.

Give it a try. At least you know what you like.
IMO, having a single horn without the relay should be okay. ( Also asked an electrician about it).

My brother is using my ex BM Bosch 110db single horn. He likes the sound.

Thanks, stlee29. I figured it would work, but wanted some confirmation. A lot of stuff that should work somehow manages not to. Murphy's Law at work...:censored:
