: Lowering kit for Versys.
Speedy Gonzalez 06-01-2008, 08:31 PM I designed and made a GPS mount that can be easily installed to windshield bracket.
It makes for very sturdy and clean set up. It is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and is anodized black.
kawaclay 06-03-2008, 12:54 PM Speedy,

versys_guy 06-05-2008, 07:45 AM That is the givi windshield correct?
Speedy Gonzalez 06-05-2008, 09:01 AM Hi guys
As long as you use original Versys brackets to hold a new wind screen (GIVI or other) you will have NO problem to install a GPS mount.
Wordguy 06-05-2008, 09:48 AM Hi Speedy,
As you know I bought one of your GPS mounts on another forum. I have installed it and it looks and works great. (No pictures yet because I am still working on the wiring.) Great job on the bracket.

Cool beans! Were you able to drill it for the Zumo mount and if so, what do I owe you for that?
Speedy Gonzalez 06-07-2008, 11:02 PM Sorry dude. I don't know the hole patterns for zumo or other GPS units. If I did I would drill them for free. Also there are too many options for the hole locations and I can bet that eventualy guys would not be happy because they would be getting mounts with holes that don't much their units.

Satex 11-23-2008, 11:07 AM Hi guys
As long as you use original Versys brackets to hold a new wind screen (GIVI or other) you will have NO problem to install a GPS mount.
I'm a bit confused. Will your setup work with the stock windscreen/brackets also? I added a Laminar Lip to my stock screen and that has proven effective for me, so I'd like to avoid "re-inventing the wheel."
FYI, I'm actually interested in your mount as a way to put in a couple of gauges (volts and water temp.)
Thanks...and beautiful work!
Speedy Gonzalez 11-23-2008, 03:28 PM I know what you mean.
The GPS mount will work with stock or any other windscreen as long as it is attached to the stock windscreen brackets. So YES it will work for you.
Bones 12-13-2008, 09:48 AM Speedy,
Your stuff looks great. Will your GPS mount work with this adjustable windshield mount? http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/it.A/id.122/.f
Can it be modified somehow to work with it?
Thanks.
Bones
Speedy Gonzalez 12-13-2008, 06:26 PM Hi guys,
I would like to let you all know that unfortunately I will not be able to fit my GPS Mount and stiffen the whole Madstad structure, as some of you guys have suggested because of the lack of space. I received and installed the Madstad adjustable windscreen mount more than two weeks ago, even though I didn’t receive all the hardware (still waiting). I tested it and thought about designing something that would fit with it, but in the end I decided not to due to the fact that there is very little space between the Madstad’s upright brackets. In fact, I think that there is not enough space to fit even the GPS unit itself without getting in a way of the windscreen once in a tilted position.

Just want you to know I bought your peg kit and kickstand plate......OUTSTANDING!
Racerman 12-30-2008, 12:30 PM A note to everyone, Speedys GPS mount is outstanding. I have had lots of positive comments on it from other bikers. "Best GPS mount I've ever seen" said one guy, a race car engineer. If you need to mount a GPS on a Versys, this is the one. Good job Speedy!
Bear on a bicycle 12-30-2008, 06:08 PM I'm hoping to get one soon, my birthday is coming up in a couple of months. Of course, I need a GPS too...

Racerman 12-31-2008, 07:34 AM The Garmin Streetpilot 2720 is probably the best value on the market. It is waterproof (good for motorcycles) and has good directions on the screen with a split screen layout that most newer models don't. This unit went out of production this year and sells for around $115 (the new price three years ago was over $800). I bought two, one for a permanent mount on my V using a Speedys GPS mount and one for travel in the truck/car.
This is the link to Ebay where you can find them cheap. Both of mine were described as Factory Refurbished, but they were in the original packaging and sealed, so I think they have to say that in order to sell so cheap. Ebay link =

I am a confirmed GPS geek, but my current "go to" unit is the 60Cx. Handheld or mounted, autorouting, but with great offroad and topo possibilities, almost infinitely upgradable, etc.
As always, ymmv.
Bear on a bicycle 12-31-2008, 07:38 PM Now that we've completely hijacked the "lowering" thread, I've been leaning this way, but price is the main obstacle right now. Well that, & I don't know a lot about what's out there...

joshmedley 12-31-2008, 10:19 PM I've got the garmin 550 on my harley and move it back and forth to my versys...I know Harley...keeps me up with the rents...
Lets just say...Walmart and Sams, have by far the best price on new units. and always check both as the prices always very, i know the 450 are going for under $500 now, and the only major difference is you don't get the car kit.

Javi Repetto 01-08-2009, 06:57 PM Hi.
Today I have done to Speedy the order of his Lowering Kit for my Versys 2008 ABS, by his web.
I must say, that his treat it’s very good, correct and quickly (of course the people of his trade Moto Werk too):thumb:
I have decided to buy him the Lowering Kit, because a saw that it seem very good manufactured, with a very high quality and for the opinion of the members of this forum about it, that had put it in his bikes.
Well I’m waiting to put the Lowering Kit soon,to show it to my friends and to show it, in the Versys forum that there are in Spain.
The next it’s especially for Speedy:
Here in Spain the piece that you have invented (Lowering Kit) in Spanish (I’m not sure if in the rest of the speakers Spanish Countries too) it’s called BIELETA and many people that have a Versys and want to low the height of his Versys found in Google or others, by the name of this piece in Spanish, bieleta and many people don’t find nothing.
The bieleta in Spanish is the piece that unite the bumper (I think that it’s the name) with the (I’m not sure the name in English) tip-up lorry?:topsecret:
Regards from Spain.
However sorry with my English.
I want to ride with my Versys by USA.:(
Speedy Gonzalez 01-08-2009, 08:13 PM Hi Javi,
Thank you for the tip about the Spanish word for Lowering Kit. I appreciate it!
Your lowering kit is shipping out tomorrow morning. You will get an email with a tracking number as well.
Greetings from California,
Speedy
darcym 02-02-2009, 01:20 PM I got my lowering kit this weekend, and Speedy helped me with the installation. It makes a tremendous improvement to the bike and to my confidence sitting on it, parking it, and pushing it backward. My legs are pretty short, and I couldn't get two feet down at all. Now I got my toes down I'm much more comfortable and confident.
All of the kit from Speedy is solid, elegant design and works fantastically. Fit and finish are beautiful. This is a bargain to boot, and we're lucky to have him working for us!
thank you again!

Deano 02-08-2009, 11:23 AM Ordered my lower kit and the bigfoot and was worth every penny. What a difference. Before i was tipptoe and now almost entirely flatfooted. Had the dealer install it and he commented it looked like it came that way. Said some lower kits look bad but this one really looked good. Fast service and a great product. Thanks Speedy. Now as soon as the snow goes away i can enjoy. I did ride it about 2 miles and worked great. Thanks guys for all the info, great forum
Racerman 02-08-2009, 02:41 PM There is another reason why the lowering kit is worth doing. I happen to be tall, so I don't necessarily have the need to lower the bike for footing purposes. I have been part of a thread on here about the rear geometry and how it changes the chain tension in travel. The first inch of wheel travel causes the most reduction in chain slack. If the Speedy kit lowers the rear an inch or so, then there is that much less chain tension reduction as the wheel travels and assumes a more linear position to the front sprocket shaft.
I consider this to be a very important aspect of any bike (chain tension changes related to rear wheel travel) and the V is designed with a little more than many other bikes. I am ordering a kit this next week and I plan on posting the results of geometry change noted as chain tension change through rear wheel travel with and without the lowering kit. Keep posted. And yes, I am a professional suspension engineer if I sound a bit technical.
Deano 02-08-2009, 04:05 PM BMW had that problem with the old GS bikes with the shaft drive and the universal joint wear. Was more of a problem on the GS as it had so much suspension travel and made for such a steep angle. Haven't heard of an chain problems and i know this bike has been out before it ever came to the US. Don't think it is much of an issue.
