: Tail bag
sharrison56 05-15-2009, 06:31 PM I am looking for a medium sized tail bag for when I am out riding the twisties. I have hard bags for when I need to carry a bunch of gear, but would like something smallerfor those other times. I would want to carry my flat kit, tools and rain gear. Other than that just a few odds and ends.
Suggestions?
brothercannon 05-15-2009, 09:04 PM I have the Axio (http://www.newenoughhp.com/luggage/tail_bags/axio/hardpack_motorcycle_tail_bag.html) tailbag. It's kinda pricey and a bit on the small size but I think it looks perfect on the V. Before I got the V35 bags I kept a plug kit and my rain gear into the tail bag. There was a little room left over for a bottle of water but that's about it.

Suggestions? A tourmaster TB17 or maybe a rapid transit tail bag, they both work and are easy to attach and detach
rhrose 05-25-2009, 08:12 AM The Motofizz small, medium, or large bags at Aerostich are worthy of a look.
lonerockz 05-27-2009, 12:12 AM I have the Kriega US-40 (http://www.matrixmotosports.com/products/kriega-us-20#)setup. Not the fastest to get on, but so far I really like it. The modular setup lets me have just the right sized pack for what I need that day. Have not tested its waterproofiness yet. Also requires using the foot peg to mount up with my stubby legs...

oxman 05-27-2009, 07:13 AM Check out these bags, i just bought a tail pack and gt roll pack off ebay . They are a great looking bag at a fair price, i paid $75 us for the two items. The tail bag has room for a full size helmet .

potus2012 05-27-2009, 04:05 PM I have an American made Chase Harper Aeropac trunk. It is simple and effective. One compartment with a zipper on each side of the top, and 4 bunjee hooks through the bottom to hold it in place. I have used it on cross country trips with no problems whatsoever. It will barely fit my full face helmet if I position the helmet just right. It has faded over the last 10 years, but still works fine and has never let even a drop of water inside despite some extended dousings.
hb9400 05-31-2009, 09:38 AM I went with this. The quality seems good for the price.

toocanad 05-31-2009, 09:43 AM ++ for the Cortech Sport Tail Bag.

massconn72 06-01-2009, 12:11 PM I really like the look and the size of the Cortech Sport bag, but I don't see a place on their web site where I can actually order it. It looks like you can add it to a cart, but no cart seems to be available. Any suggestions? Thanks
Deano 06-01-2009, 12:22 PM Use a Nelson Riggs sometimes. Small but works fine
toocanad 06-01-2009, 05:30 PM The Cortech can be had at the motorcycle superstore or at www.newenough.com
I bought mine at a local bike shop.

Cyclesurfer 06-05-2009, 03:02 PM I have the Cortech and like it allot for day to day. Have a Nelsonriggs medium and one large for extended trips. My briefcase fits in the Cortech. Have had it for three years and had no problems yet. Rain cover works well.
stremf1 06-06-2009, 12:56 AM That Motofizz bag looks amazing. I've been looking for a bag just like it go camping with. I love this forum!
potus2012 06-06-2009, 12:10 PM Just bought my wife a deluxe fold away bag from Chase Harper. It attaches with 4 hooked bunjee straps that are stored in a zippered compartment on the bottom of the bag. When not using it you can fold it into one of its pockets. It is small enough this way to carry even in a small tankbag. If you need more room when you are using it, it has two expansion zippers to increase its size.
It is a light weight bag that easily doubles as a duffel bag if you get the optional shoulder strap.
It might not be the best bag for carrying large, hard, or heavy items as it is lightweight and not at all rigid. It's great for carrying soft gear like clothes. It is also perfect to take on trips where you might be coming back with more stuff than you left with.
I have had excellent luck with Chase Harper. Even their gear that doesn't claim to be waterproof is. I've had a complete set of their Aeropac luggage that hasn't let in a drop and has served me well for over 13 years. Never used a raincover on them, and drove through some downpours for extended periods of time. Lifetime warranty even covers owner stupidity, in case you were to somehow not properly secure the saddlebags and let the rear tire rub a hole in one...
KevinM 06-06-2009, 01:44 PM I just bought the rapid transit platoon tail bag. It works well and the hooked end bungees hold it on very solidly. I never bought it online, but here it is.

cetzel 06-06-2009, 04:57 PM I use the Cargo Basic Monster Tailbag. Not cheap but its compact (holds a 12pack bottles) and EXPANDS to hold an 18pack, a helmet or a weeks worth of clothing. I actually used it on a recent trip to Austin as a suitcase.
potus2012 06-06-2009, 05:01 PM Did you bring the 12 or 18 pack? You know they sell beer in Austin don't you? (Shiner Bock is pretty good...)
cetzel 06-06-2009, 05:15 PM Unfortunately, I had to fly to Houston and then drove a rental to Austin. My next trip to the Lone Star state will definitely be with the V... and an 18pk.
potus2012 06-06-2009, 06:54 PM Just pack a six pack, ride through Shiner on your way, and pick up a fresh 12 pack direct from the brewery. I wouldn't recommend riding immediately after downing all the samples.
gti20vturbo 06-07-2009, 11:53 AM The Motofizz small, medium, or large bags at Aerostich are worthy of a look.
They are awesome, I have the large and medium size. They are well thought out and best put together moto bags I have ever seen.

lonerockz 06-08-2009, 04:42 PM I can confirm that the Kriega bags are 100% waterproof. I rode in the rain for 6+ hours on Sunday and they did not leak a single drop. The outer liner was soaked, but the inner liner was bone dry. My Rev-it gloves were also flawless!

+1 on the Wolfman gear. I saw TONS of it on some high dollar BMW's on the Dalton and Alaska Highways last year.
I pre-packed for a little trip north to The U.P. of Michigan coming up. All my camping gear and food (3.5 days worth) fit in the MotoFizz regular seat bag.

The bag is spose to be 39 liters. But when expanded? 59 liters. I found that by expanding it (built in zippers to open) I was able to fit all my gear inside and didnt need the provided exterior lashing points.
Better shots of it expanded.

This may seem like a stupid question but are any mounts required to fasten some of these soft tail bags? I don't see myself buying any side bags for some time as I won't be going on any extended trips and I really like the MotoFizz seat bag.
The Versys is my first bike I ever owned and I am just dipping my toes in all the accessories I want to get.

Most come with bungee cords and some even have velcro straps. My Cargo Monster tailbag has both. It was $99 at Cycle World but I got it on sale (read: probably normal retail price) for $79. The little triangular area by the passenger footpegs is a good place to hook a bungee. Word of advice: Protect your paint. put something over the area where the tailbag straps will rub or you'll find the pretty paint rubbed off.

Kappa has 30 & 40 ltr waterproof bags too.
Kappa is Givi's sister company so they are the same bags only without the Givi price.

jcctx 07-20-2011, 08:31 AM Check out the "canoe bags" in the Walmart camping section. About $30 for two (very large and large) that are about as waterproof as anything with a zipper. The big one carries everything I need for a camping trip. I am sure the MC specific stuff is good but I see no need to spend three times as much for the same utility????

Using a military waterproof canvas bag over my luggage bag I strap behind on the seat. :)

Siyeh,
The way you have the lowers painted to match the bike is awesome. Is that something you had done professionally?
