: Givi Top case
james williams 05-28-2008, 05:40 PM Can anyone tell me if the Givi top case has a quick disconnect or are they ment to stay on the bike once mounted. I would like to be able to remove it without to much trouble when riding alone or just joy riding. Also looking for any pictures of the mounting brackets for the top case. I am not sure what size I want but something small that will still hold some clothing ect. Wife really wants a back rest when she is riding. THANKS
Boiler97 05-28-2008, 08:29 PM I had a Givi topcase and mount for my old Ninja 650 (the topcase is the Givi Flow) and loved it! I never even knew the case was back there! When I traded in my Ninja, I kept the topcase and have just ordered a rack for the Versys. It's a great mounting system called the Monolock series...the topcase simply disconnects with the twist of a key and the press of a button. The "Flow" easily holds a full face helmet, summer jacket and a little rain gear. I think there are a couple of pics in the photo section of a Givi rack...they're fairly easy to install!

james williams 05-28-2008, 08:52 PM Boiler thanks for the reply that is just what I wanted to hear I really want to be able to take the topcase off quickly. I am not sure which model the FLOW is everything I have seen listed seems to be in number 35,41, ect. do you know which one the flow is. Thanks again Jay
Boiler97 05-29-2008, 07:18 PM Here's a link to the site that I got my topcase and rack from:
http://sporttour.com/luggage/givi/Givi_E350_Flow.htm
The E350 (Flow) is on the smaller side for topcases...I know others have used up to 45 litres...but I wanted something just a little smaller and the E350 is perfect for me. This site has the cheapest Givi luggage that I've found with free (and fast) shipping!

Boiler97 05-29-2008, 07:22 PM Also, here's the link to the page for the actual racks:

ntxtrooper 06-07-2008, 08:28 PM Ordered my trunk rack from Kawasaki and it went on backorder so I cancelled it to order a Givi Rack. Guess what? It's on back order also..
Already have a Givi Trunk waiting to be mounted. It only took a couple days to get..
Baddone 06-08-2008, 10:22 AM Here is where I got my top box and it fits my Givi rack perfect and the price is right. I got the large and it will hold my flip up full face if I position it right. Holds my jacket and pants liner and still room for more.

james williams 06-10-2008, 05:26 AM Thanks for the help guys ended up with the E35 top bag went thru Twistedthrottle got everything in 5 days fit perfect works great. BADDONE what type of setup do you have for a taillight eliminator I am looking for one and yours looks great. How about a picture from the back. Jay
08 Versys 07-06-2008, 07:59 AM Another vote for the J.C. Whitney large trunk. It fits perfectly on the Givi rack. It looks much better after you paint the trim that faces forward. It comes from JC Whitney with orange trim. Baddone painted his flat black to match his painted engine covers , I painted mine aluminum color to match the stock pieces. It's even better that you can get it for about $50 including shipping. :D

hb9400 07-13-2008, 08:42 AM I just added the givi top case brackets and monokey plate. I also bought the medium jc whitney top case. I'm very disappointed because the medium doesn't work with the give plates and I'm not going to try and fabricate a plate holder to replace the well made Givi plate.

Send the medium back and buy the large. You can still get the large one for a hair over $50 including shipping.

Or, there are a couple of people that have been able to modify the Givi plate and mount the medium case.

hb9400 07-13-2008, 10:32 AM Thanks I did order the large one and got it for the $47.99 price. Now the large case works with the Givi Monokey bracket just fine, correct?
08 Versys 07-13-2008, 10:40 AM Thanks I did order the large one and got it for the $47.99 price. Now the large case works with the Givi Monokey bracket just fine, correct?
Yes, that's exactly what I am using and it fits great.

I have the large JCW also and it fit the Givi plate perfect. The trunk comes with a plate also and it also looks to be exactly like the Givi.
bigtexas1974 07-13-2008, 12:25 PM Does anyone get loud vibration sound fron the closed case while driving, either the Givi or the JC Whitney? I have a Givi (supposedly, possibly a fake one as is common here) on mine and it rattles like hell when driving, the rattling coming from when the top and bottom seam together when closed?!?!? I tried putting a seal inside but it doesnt work well.

No noise with mine. Are you sure its the case making the noise? Might want to check your fasteners back there or possibly the cover over the tailight. I have heard of that buzzing before, but not a case.
bigtexas1974 07-13-2008, 03:11 PM Yeah, I have checked everything - all connections are tight - it is definitely coming from where the top and bottom case meet.
The problem is that about 80% of things down here are fakes, and since I don't know what a REAL Givi is like, I have nothing to compare to.
The only good news is that the bike is up for sale, along with the case, and I plan to get all new luggage with the new Versys!
RedRiguez 07-17-2008, 08:30 PM Hey guys,
When l look up the large trunk at JCW its showing the price as $84.99 on the large trunk. You guys got them for around $50.00 was that a sale at the time or is there a special promo code or somthing you have to enter to get that price. I want to get the large but I want to make sure I pay bottom dollar.:)
Any info would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks
08 Versys 07-17-2008, 09:38 PM Read the thread I posted a link to, it tells you how to get the large case at the cheap price. I don't remember how to do it, I just read that thread and followed the instructions.

Yeah as 08Versys said there are promo codes out there that you need to enter. You won't see the price drop until you put the codes in and almost finish check out.
ntxtrooper 07-19-2008, 03:25 PM Finally got my trunk rack mounted on my Versys. I have been using it for about a week now and it works like a charm. No vibration or noise that I have noticed.
hb9400 07-19-2008, 10:30 PM Arrived Friday and it fit the givi bracket just fine. The case looks good except for the orange strip. I see that others painted their's black and silver. What kind of paint did you use? While not nearly as nice as my friend Steve's GIVI case, especially with his tail light kit, my wife seems happy and likes the back rest and the ability to lean back when we ride.
Definitely worth the price and will let us get comfortable with cargo before we step up to a Givi case.........
abramsgunner 07-20-2008, 12:36 PM I bought the large JCW trunk, and I like it. It has that cheap chinese knock-off feel, but is functional and gets the job done. It fits my Givi rack's monokey plate pretty well.. a little tight the first time I mounted it, but it goes on fine with a little coaxing. Now I'm considering adding some sidebags.. probably E21's on a Givi rack for reduced cost, lids that open from the top, and less width... then again, the PLX cases look awfully nice!

tapntx 07-20-2008, 01:21 PM Does the price change to the $47.99 price before you enter credit card info . My order detail page still shows $84.99, with the 'E" in the part number.

You enter your credit card info and then go to the next page, you still have a chance to cancel at that point, but it shows up as $47.99 on that next page. Be sure and have something extra in your cart to get the price over $50 so you get free shipping.

so you bought the GIVI rack and JCW truck and used JC's hardware kit?

You were asking that Baddone's rack and trunk, but I have the exact same setup. It's the Givi rack and Givi top plate/hardware. The JC Whitney trunk comes with a mount plate but I just left it in the box it came in and put it on the shelf. The JC trunk fits great on the Givi top plate.

fosterit 08-01-2008, 09:10 PM Hey, great heads up on the JCW deal! I just ordered up the large. I'm thinking of going with the SW Motech rear rack though... any thoughts on it vs. the Givi? I was told it might look more 'stock' then the Givi and believe the SW stuff to be of good quality, but I haven't been able to see a picture of the actual rack.
tapntx 08-01-2008, 09:14 PM I just installed my SW Motech today. You will need to drill out the mounting holes. they are 10mm and need to be 14. Other than that it mounted right up great. The SW rack is very nice quality.
On the JCW box is it in stock, when I ordered it said expect shipment on August 27, 2008. was that still the deal on yours too.
Todd

scottgvtx 08-02-2008, 09:30 PM :clap:How difficult is it to install the Mounts for the Top case. I would rather not drill. Is there a mounting system which just bolts on.

Hey Golfmuch, what's all the stuff up front (handlebars). I'd like to see a close up. Thanks
fosterit 08-24-2008, 08:44 PM Sorry Todd, I haven't checked this thread in a while. I did end up ordering the JCW trunk, it took about 2 weeks to come in, actually got it today. I'm very pleased with the trunk. As others have said, it's got that cheap feel, and I'm sure a GIVI is waaay better, but for $50, I don't see how I could go wrong. I'll use it for storing rain gear and carrying my lunch to work, in place of my Cortech sport saddle bags, which I've never been all that pleased with.
I found I could squeeze in 2 full face helmets, though it won't close tight (would work in a pinch for security while walking around though). It fits one helmet fine with plenty of room to spare.
I'm painting that hideous red/orange strip satin black right now (using some Rustoleum All-surface paint). I ordered the SW motec rack with no mounting hardware. I'm going to try and use the JCW hardware. I should get the SW in the next few days, I'll post back with my results and some pics when it's mounted.
thanks again for the heads up to the JCW deal!
08 Versys 08-24-2008, 09:38 PM :clap:How difficult is it to install the Mounts for the Top case. I would rather not drill. Is there a mounting system which just bolts on.
The Givi top case rack just bolts on, no drilling required.

fosterit 08-26-2008, 10:54 PM I got the SW Motech alu-rack in today, it installed easily in 10 mins, no drilling required. I really like the look of the integrated grab handle and rack mount. It's almost a shame to put a top box on it!
I used the JCW included hardware to install my JCW top case directly onto the base SW motech rack (purchased w/o a box specific mounting plate). The JCW hardware's a little lame, but it works. Again no drilling required, I just used existing holes in the mounting plate and the SW rack. The included bolts are too long (and one arrived broken) but it fits tight is has got to be about the least expensive option for a top case.
I'm very pleased overall. I'll post up some pictures later.

The rack does not look to bad without the case.
Any windnoise???
carter 08-29-2008, 09:16 PM I just ordered mine from JC Whitney and same deal...price dropped at checkout...aparently the free shipping doesn't apply to this b/c already disconted

I still got the free shipping; as others have said, you have to have another few dollars worth in your cart before you checkout to still be over $50 to get the free shipping.

can anyone tell me if this givi top case mount is too far away from the passengers back for it to be used as a semi back rest?
I was debating between this one and the SW Motech, except the SW doesnt allow side bags.
here is another pic http://www.kawasakiversys.com/gallery/data/500/medium/Photo033.jpg
golfmuch 05-02-2011, 02:15 PM Just buy a back rest for the givi case. It works out great. I have the SW motech top with the givi v35 sides. The sw plate makes it possible to move your givi plate forward or backward as ness.
miguelito 05-02-2011, 03:00 PM Or go the cheap route, (like me), and contact cement some 1/4" closed cell foam to the hinge side of the case.
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx236/miguelitobones/DSCN5056.jpg
i will probably do what miguel did with the foam, but my question is... does the girl have to lean back to use this or is it in the right place where it supports her when she is about perpendicular (straight up and down)?
Boricua 05-02-2011, 06:25 PM With a givi e450 with the backrest on a givi FZ447 monorack (monolock plate) the passenger sits straight against the backrest. The backrest lines up well with the end of the seat. Without the backrest the person will lean back on the case.
