: New Feature: Embedded Google Maps
Jman423 04-19-2009, 09:03 PM We've added the ability to embed Google Maps into your posts:
Click the http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums/images/googlemaps/g_maps.jpg button in the editor while typing your post and the map tags will appear, you can then type the address, coordinates, zip code, whatever you can type into the Google Maps search fields can be entered between the map tags.
This is helpful for pinpointing meets or events or to show a location that you may be referring to in a post.
Here is an example:
[ map ]central park[ /map ]
The tag above (without spaces) will display:
central park

brothercannon 05-03-2009, 11:26 PM Hey this does't seem to be working. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong?
central park
brothercannon 05-03-2009, 11:28 PM Ah, now I see. It works but it won't show up in the preview.

Yeah, sorry, I forgot to mention that. That was a limitation of the plugin because the preview isn't generated the same way that the actual post is, so the underlying functionality isn't there until the post is made.

Anybody know how to get the google map thing to embed the map you want on here???

It looks like you are trying to display a route, and I don't think this plugin supports that.
I am showing a point that is about in the middle of the area of your route... Am I understanding what you are trying to do?
Bear on a bicycle 05-22-2009, 08:32 PM Yep, that's exactly what I'm trying to do, post a route. I guess that's what I was missing, the route vs. map thing. I wonder if there is another way...
brothercannon 05-23-2009, 10:15 AM This is by no means an easy way to do this but it is an option. You could set up your route on google maps. Then use a screen capture utility to get the image you want. Now it is a picture and attach it to your post. You would probably want to put a link to the google maps route in your post.

Yeah, I thought of that, but turns out, there is a limit on how many pictures, including smilies, that can be in one post. I guess I could've made 2 posts & put some pics in one & the rest in another.
But the reason I wanted to embed it is so people could actually use the zoom feature on the map. I like zooming in & out. It gives me a better perspective...

Vendetta 10-20-2009, 08:14 AM Have you tried to simply create the rout using Google Map (the actual site) and then using the option to create a link? It will create a link that you can paste on your post or embed as a link to any word (MAP (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Orlando,+FL&daddr=32.0490498,-81.2585147+to:Atlanta,+GA&hl=en&geocode=%3BFZkH6QEd7hco-yk_u0cM_An7iDEEbjerIaZ2_w%3B&mra=ls&sll=33.748995,-84.387982&sspn=0.179273,0.293198&g=Atlanta,+GA&ie=UTF8&ll=31.222197,-83.078613&spn=9.556243,9.030762&z=6&via=1))
I know it is not as cool as having the actual map show in the post but if you want more advanced features, this may be an option.
Cheers…

Yeah, I've done that, but I've seen other sites that embed the map & it's fully functional. Not a big deal...
what would you put in to make it show a specific adress?

If I understand your question and you can work with GPX or another file type. Look here for ....
http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums...ad.php?t=12505
How about Google Map to GPX file.
GPS Visualizer can read data files from many different sources, including but not limited to: GPX (a standard format used with many devices and programs, including Garmin's eTrex, GPSMAP, Oregon, Dakota, Colorado, & Nüvi series), Google Earth (.kml/.kmz), Google Maps routes (URLs)
