: Hepco Becker Bars are handy for driving Lights and Highway Pegs!
2xadv 05-16-2008, 05:05 PM See pics. The HB bars worked well for mounting Highway Pegs and small driving lights. The lights are 55w each!
The pegs were $15 at the local M/C accesory store and mounted fast and easy.
The driving light mounts are hardware store U-bolts that I had to bend tighter after they were around the HB bars and then I cut them off at the nylock nuts after snugging everything down.
2xadv 05-16-2008, 05:10 PM More shots of the set-up and pics of the driving light switch.
David F. 05-18-2008, 10:19 AM Where did you get the driving lights from & the brand? Cost? Do you have any problem with them running down your battery?
Bear on a bicycle 05-18-2008, 11:03 AM Looks good! Nice foot rests...
2xadv 05-18-2008, 11:30 AM I got the lights from:
http://www.rallylights.com/Optilux/optilux_1500.asp
I have not had a problem with running the battery down YET.
The alternator on the V is pretty good, but I would not run all the lights, Grip heaters and heated jacket liners all at once at low RPM.
David F. 05-18-2008, 02:43 PM The reason I ask, I have a set pf PIAA 1100x (55w) that I had on my old bike (Yamaha YZF 600). If I ran the lights at low rpm, less than 4000, most of the time my bike wouldn't start after a stop. I've been hesitate about installing them on my V.
Paladin 05-18-2008, 04:38 PM I really like the way the lights mount.
2xadv 05-18-2008, 11:21 PM Versys at 4000 rpm 14V = 336 watts total.
Bike uses about 130 watts to run (Including low-beam).
2x 55W added lights are OK, but with base 130W + high beam 55W + (2x 55w) driving lights 110w + 100W heated Jacket + 20W heated grips the total (>400w) is over the alternator output. I would turn off the high beams with the laser cannons on. I would at least turn off the Jacket liner, grips and laser cannons a few minutes before landing to give the battery a chance to charge-up some.
I installed HID 35W for the low beams, so I am saving 20W that way with the 35W HIDs still brighter than the standard 55W bulb.
2xadv 05-18-2008, 11:27 PM Thank you for the compliments.
David F. 05-19-2008, 09:04 PM Thanks for the info.
leshall 05-23-2008, 01:38 AM Did that handlebar light switch come with the lights??
Thanks Les
2xadv 05-23-2008, 01:59 AM I bought the switch separate from:
http://www.cyclenutz.com/products/electrical_accessories/switches/mini_handlebar_headlight_switch.html
However the Driving Lights kit came with a full harness with a nice lighted switch that could maybe be mounted in the flat black plastic dashboard area of your V. That switch did not look water/rain friendly so, I like the easy access of the handlebar mounted switch.
leshall 05-23-2008, 08:06 AM Thanks for the info - that's a cool little website. I like how your bike is coming along. I;ve had mine about 8 months and am only getting around to farkling.
Thanks. Les, Dallas.
StonedGP 06-01-2008, 12:03 PM Nice looking setup...I like these pegs a bit better. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/2699/203/
I have SW MOTECH crash bars ordered. What is the bar diameter of crash bar so can order correct highway pegs. How comfortable are they ?
ntxtrooper 06-07-2008, 08:23 PM How do you like the HB Bars? Will they protect the engine in a lay down? I was thinking about doing the same thing for some highway pegs.
Baddone 06-08-2008, 10:28 AM I have SW MOTECH crash bars ordered. What is the bar diameter of crash bar so can order correct highway pegs. How comfortable are they ?
I have the SWMotech bars and the top bar is 1" and the rest is 7/8". When you install your bars leave everything loose until fully assembled. The long bolt may be a little short that goes through the swingarm area so I had to cut the spacer down by a 1/4" to get the nut on and so did several other folks. I don't know if you got a newer kit that may be fixed.
I was hoping to install on lower aspect of crashbar which you discribe as 7/8". I spoke with twisted throttle to confirm diameter of bars and they state everything is 1" or 26.9mm.They call out 1 1/8" assembly. It will be interesting to see how it really plays out. I hope they are correct. I will keep all posted. Thanks for your thoughts.
trialsguy 06-10-2008, 09:51 AM Those hand guards look pretty slick! I do alot of early morning riding when its 45 degrees out, and could use a wind break for my hands. Where did you get the hand guards?
Dave
2xadv 06-10-2008, 11:05 AM The Hanguards are KTM Handguards. I found some discount phone order KTM shop on the internet.
They gave a discount if I had the part# 6000207910030.
The added skirts I had to make myself.
2xadv 06-10-2008, 11:10 AM How do you like the HB Bars? Will they protect the engine in a lay down? I was thinking about doing the same thing for some highway pegs.
The bike has not been layed-down while moving, but it was dropped in a parking lot after the HB bars were installed. Also had the GIVI bags on the SW Motech mounts. The sidebags got a scuff but protected legs. The bars protected everything else except the Handlebar ends had to be touched-up (along with the mark on the HB Bars). The HB bars are just big enough to protect everything up top including the turn signals!
roadkill 06-13-2008, 09:51 PM what brand of hand guard is that? and where did you get it :stickpoke:
2xadv 06-14-2008, 12:29 AM See post #20 in this thread for Handguard answers.
Muffler Bearing 06-24-2008, 04:58 PM Do you have to remove the front engine mount bolts to install these?
2xadv 06-24-2008, 06:31 PM Yes. To mount the Hepco Becker crash bars you will need to remove the front Engine Guard Bolts. They give you slightly longer mount bolts to put where you took off the front Engine mount bolts.
IMPORTANT:
When you remove the front engine mount bolts be careful not to drop/lose the nuts on the other end of each bolts. They fit in a recess in the engine, but when unscrewed they are now loose and can fall out.
kevinw9 08-12-2008, 05:43 PM Where's the web page that sells the Hepco becker bars, the site I found doesn;t mention the versys??
2xadv 08-12-2008, 06:04 PM I had to call to order. I think it was the US distributor company in Southern California. If you need it I can try to find the company name.
Sorry.
DragonBreath 08-12-2008, 06:47 PM The US distributor is Eurotech Motorsports (link here (http://www.eurotechmotorsports.com/)) but they only sell wholesale.
There are several different sites that you can order from, but I'm pretty sure they all get their supply from Eurotech. I just ordered mine from Adventure Motostuff (link here (http://www.amotostuff.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc)). I think Happy Trail (link here (http://www.happy-trail.com/)) also sells them.
From what PO-SLOKE said in a thread a week or so ago, the next shipment coming over from Germany is due into the States later this month. I think there are only like 25 racks expected in that order, so if you want one, you'd probably better "act now while supplies last".
On a related note, my original plan was to get the SW-Motech guard from Twisted Throttle. Unfortunately, those are also on backorder with no ETA known by Twisted Throttle but it will be at least a couple of months.
The last option that I know of is the new offering by Happy Trail. Their guard looks pretty good (link here (http://www.happy-trail.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=HTP-4-9-5)), and they are known for making good stuff. I chose to go with the H&B bars because I think they look more stock on the bike.
Good luck and ride safe.
Not sure if someone already posted this but I couldn't find it. Can someone tell me the diameter of the Hepco Becker crash guards?
Thanks, John
