Hello, new here. I'm looking to buy an 08 Versys and was wondering what a fair out the door price would be excluding taxes.

Thanks

$6380 OTD in durango, co. I saw some in cycletrader.com in mesa az for 5895, didn't specify other charges, but bought locally. saved a 900 mile round trip and a night at a motel.

Bought one at a local dealer for $6500 + tax. (Wood River IL) I found them cheaper online but would have had to travel. Going to pick it up this morning.

Well it depends on your sales tax and doc fee, setup and freight. I paid 5975 for mine then after taxes set up and doc I was 7000 OTD. I would think anything under 7000 is a decent deal. In my opinion it's a lot of bike for the money.

Yeah, it was Cycle Sports here in Eugene. The Motorcycle Trader had an ad in the April 25-May 1 edition for $550 off. So I took the ad in and saved some money.

If you plan on talking to them, seek out "Caz". He was a no-pressure, intelligent and funny salesguy.

Don't know how you are getting these prices when they are listed at 6,899.00+setup/handling/tax/title etc..
That more like 7500 out the door.

Just a quick show of cycletrader.com shows advertised prices as low as $5899.
Usually they will try to add delivery ($500) and setup ($500) + tax and tags.
It is all negotiable from there.

That is why you should always ask for the OTD (Out The Door) price and if you buy from another state make sure you understand what you will pay when you return home. Those travel three states away for deal scenario's usually don't work out in the end.

Some states don't title motorcycles and taxes vary widely. So for example, I can go to one of those states and buy one, but here in NC you pay the taxes when you apply for a title. So no getting out of the taxes and titling fees if I plan on titling it here and putting a NC tag on it.

One more thing to think about, and this is my personal logic which may or may not apply to you.

I like having a dealer near my house. I do almost all of my own mechanic work, and buy much of goodies on line. However, I like to be able to stop buy, pick up an oil filter, maybe a new pair of riding gloves and be able to physically look at the new models.

If I want them to be there for me, I need to be there for them, so if at all possible I buy locally. Not to mention any warranty issues, I have a window to throw a brick thru.

Now with that said, I had two dealers (100 miles apart, both in NC) quote the OTD for me (I always include Tax, title, transfer, doc fees, setup). OTD means everything.
It makes it tough to compare on here as states, taxes, etc vary.

I got one quote for $7000 the second was $8300. $7000 seemed fair to me, I didn't even calll the $8300 dealer back.

But you see the game, I don't remember what taxes and tags are in NC, but let's say $400. What dealer #2 did was (rounding here) $6900 list + $500 delivery + $500 setup + $400 taxes and title.

BTW, Dealer #1 is the smaller dealership, don't be fooled by the "volume" dealer, big showroom, we sell by the hundreds bunk. These volume guys will advertise in your area (advertising cost money) with low prices then add on $ at the end. Make sure you ask these questions.

No doubt there are some deals out there, just make sure you ask these questions.
No doubt I could have saved probably another $300 if I had shopped more, was willing to pay the gas to go get it at $75/tank, and invest the time, but I think my deal was fair for me and fair for my local dealer who I have leverage with on issues.

That has to do with shipping and any tariffs you may have right?

The Pound is kicking every currencies ass so I do not see why so much more.

I'm in southwest Va. bought mine yesterday, paid $6600.00 all fees included and the dealer had to get it from another shop in N.C, he didn't have one on the floor. i spoke to several dealers in N.C and many wouldn't even return my call or discuss a price. I was looking to pay cash, no trade-in, they weren't interested, so i felt i got a good deal, considering what gas would cost in my truck to go get it.... I pick it up today, looking forward to it....By the way, i sold my 03' r1150rt to buy the versys, wanted a smaller bike that i could still tour on, the 650 versys motor was impressive and with a few upgrades, bags, windshield, it should do fine. knowing that almost anywhere i go in the country i can find a dealer to service it if needed will be nice, didn't have that ability with the RT....

Tsunami, Sounds like a good deal to me. I own both of the bikes, the Versys and the R1200RT. If touring to you means running the NC, VA mountains, I think you'll be happy.
I took the Vs on an 600 mile jaunt, it did fine, but you be wanting some time off the saddle. However, if touring to you means going to Maine, that would be tough.
Don't get me wrong, I'd buy both of these bikes again, the Vs is awesome.
Where you will really love it over the RT is the running around, easy, light, good gas mileage.

Enjoy!

I found my RT to be hard on me after half a day, my neck and shoulders tensed bad, right knee also, yeah the Vs' seat could use some work, but it's not bad, i've modified my own seats before, so this shouldn't be a problem, The V has less vibration in the bars than my RT did, your 1200 is smoother, may be due to it being a twin spark, mine wasn't

I know those issues, not sure if they are from the same causes.
After long days I had neck, shoulder, wrist issues on my V Strom and the RT. Using bar risers (1" up and 1" back) on both bikes made that go away.

As for the R Knee, I have one of those too. It does not bother me on the Strom, but kills me on the RT and Vs. I have made two mods to the RT which cured that problem.
Lowered pegs 1" and raised seat height 1".

I am in the process of modifying the Vs seat, up 1" and will probably install the Vario pegs to lower them 1".

I think the manufacturers think the average rider is a 5'6" limber teenager.

I think the manufacturers think the average rider is a 5'6" limber teenager.

They are starting to respond to the huge loss of sales that they see due to normal height (which is about 5'7") potential customers that never become riders, or customers, due to the selection of motorcycles not fitting. To say that riders are taller than average (which is likely) only means that a large potential market was ignored. I for one am glad to see motorcycles being built for,and considered for, transportation rather than just ungainly weekend toys (right, I am 5'6" and currently ride a cruiser because the bikes I really wanted were all too tall).

[no, this really isn't my first post, i do not post often and had to create a new user name... I really don't remember why...]

As far as the price...I just picked one up for $5995 + $437 tax +$85 "document" fee, but got the dealer to throw in a free helmet ($109), so $6517 OTD + a helmet. The dealer explained that they pretty much have to buy one of everything Kawi makes to fulfill their contract. He said some models just don't sell well, so it's in their best interest to sell them at or very near cost to free up space for models that sell well

As far as the height, they definitely didn't make the V for any tall guys. I'd 6'4" and my wife is 6'1" - she fits OK, but the position puts my left leg in such a bind, it is hard to lift my foot up to shift. The curve of the seat doesn't help either. No matter how far back I try and scoot, a turn or two and my crotch is snuggled right up to the gas tank again. Definitely looking to make some refinements to this seat. But then, most every car I own gets the front seat ripped out, the tracks extended by several inches, then welded back into place. So the bike is nothing new. It would really be nice to see an adjustable seat, though.

Sadly, I paid MSRP for mine. I got caught up in the "first new bike" mentality. It's costing me 8800 OTD (with a !!$900!! Kwaka 4yr extended warranty, Thor 50/50's and an AVG Miglia helmet) :(
