: Tank bag?

Has anyone found a decent tank bag that fits the Versys? I have gone to several dealers and tried to fit many from Oxford/Gears....the magnetic types won't stick to the plastic tank fairing, the strap-on:D types seem to slide around....

The cortech super mini fits, but its small & pricey. Here's a link:

http://www.bobscycle.com/browse.cfm/4,95845.html?AFF=690FGL

I almost bought it, & probably will go back for it because of the fit. I bought a bag that's a bit bigger, but its too cumbersome & looks plain dorky.

Here's a link to the one I bought:

If you are looking for a small magnetic mount bag the Icon Primer or the Joe Rocket Manta may be worth a look. http://www.newenoughhp.com/luggage/tank_bags/?page=2

I am using a Joe Rocket XL and it works well. The FAMSA 260 is awsome, but after being on back order for 2-months I gave up and am getting a Wolfman Light and universal panniers for long trips.

Blanch has a Baglux cover on her Versys tank which will then give the option of many tank bags....as long as they are Baglux/Bagster.

These look nice and are cheap at 116$. Do they require additional parts or brackets to be installed on the versys? I'd prefer using these then a tank bag...

No extra brackets/hardware of any kind. The bags have a butt load of straps for attaching them to the bike.

Have had my Wolfman Eplorer Lite mounted up for a week or so now and am really liking it. Solid fit, seems bomb-proof, the map cased sits flat so you can actually read it - and the bag seems to interupt some of the buffeting behind the windscreen. :)

Yes they are spendy, but nice!

how long does it take for you to strap on the tank bag?

The Wolfman will take you all of 5-minutes or less. For filling, unsnap the 2-bottom snaps and flip forward. The Famsa unzips and goes to the side.

The Joe Rocket Magnetic is a great bag as well and goes on and off in no time!

I am looking at getting a FAMSA bag from Bikerworld, but they haven't been really forthcoming with information. I've tried e-mail and phoning to no avail. The link to the Deutsch site indicates that the correct part number for the Versys is 244/48, that doesn't show up on the Bikerworld site. Hunting 1 mentions that the 1200GS bag is a match, yet the part number is 244/23. For those of you who ordered from Bikerworld, what part number did you order? Did the gas cap match up with the bag mount hole?

Thanks,

I have the Famsa setup for the 1200GS - it's nice in that you can unzip the bag from the tank cover and get to the gas cap. The sidebags unzip also. Overall it can hold a lot of gear but you have to make sure the sidebag straps are pretty tight or the they hang out. I've also noticed that it directs the hot air from the motor down more toward your feet - nice thing for cold days probably.

They're certainly pricey, but Bags Connection has several that mount onto the gas cap.

I bought a FirstGear Silverstone Magnetic Tank Bag and it fits perfect. :thumb: I love it. Seems to me like it was made for the V.
All the magnets stick securely, and wow are they strong. That bag isn't going anywhere unless you want it to.
Also, it comes with a CLEAR rain cover. Very nice to still be able to see what's in the map pocket if the weather gets bad. Surprisingly, I found that's different than other manufacturers... seems like it should be a common sense thing.

I'll try to post some pics later.

I bought a Cortech Mini today. The bag seems to hold on very well and I put about 80 highway miles on it at good speeds. The magnets located in the 'ears' seem to position directly on the tank and just slightly overlap the plastic fairing. The mini also has magnets directly in the bottom of the bag so it has more contact points than just the ears. I like the fact that it has a very soft mating surface so it won't scratch the tank. It is expandable but your not going to get a whole lot in there, but it serves the purpose. It does come with a safety strap that I positioned around my upper tripple tree and then clipped it to the D ring on the front of the bag. I don't have any worries about it flying off as it seems very stable. I'm pretty happy with it, it's a good quality product, but at $79. it's a bit expensive.....My $.02...scott

I have the Joe Rocket Mantra and it fits perfectly. The shape of the pack works well with the geometry of the Versys. This bike looks better almost with the tank bag on it works so well together. The clear plastic pocket works well for a smartphone/ipod so you can see it while still in the pocket.

They do provide a pocket of still air and in combination with heated grips keep my hands warm. My riding season ended pretty early here, so I didn't put a lot of miles on with them, though. I did ride in temperature of 35F and was comfortable with my summer gloves (and I tend to run pretty cold). There are some problems too. It was an adjustment not being able to see my hands, but I kind of got used to that. They look pretty awful. The biggest problem occurs at freeway speed. They act as a big sail and I sense the pressure on the levers. Perhaps handguards in combination with Hippo Hands is the best solution? Any ideas?

I am disappointed with the Joe Rocket Mantra.
I guess I got spoiled on the borrowed Cortech,
but the stupid magnets do not self-store and
have to be painstakingly folded/stuffed into the
tank protector. And there is no handle to carry
it inside! You have to get out the shoulder strap
(which takes up precious space in the rather
smallish interior) and carry it like a lady's purse.
Lame at best. Another ill-advised relic for the
closet, nevermind the wasted $35 plus.

I bought a Givi T409 - just big enough for my wallet, Blackberry, drugs, puck, etc. I would have ordered the Bitchin Gear bag but it's just a little too girly for me. As far as I can tell they're the same bag so those guys who are comfortable with their sexuality can go ahead and use the Bitchin' Gear bag and save about thirty bucks.

Here's a photo of it on the bike. It fits perfectly on the flat spot over the gas cap. And, yes, that's frost on the bike. We're still in the deep freeze here.

So like I said, a quick review of the First Gear Laguna GPS tankbag/Backpack...

It's large! Big enough to fit some overnight clothes in, your electronic goodies, and a few small things (like glasses, trail mix...), but not so big that it is obtrusive when you are riding.

I ordered it because of the GPS holder, which if you look in the picture is really quite useful. It basically props the GPS up directly in front of you, and makes it easy to glance at and navigate with. And when you don't need it the whole GPS compartment zips into the bag and basically disappears.
The tank bag has a built in rain cover, which worked well when I needed it.
It has got tabs on the inside so that you can run all your GPS/Headphone wires nice and neat without all the hassel and tangles wires normally give you.
It is expandable as well, so you can get an extra 2" of height out of it when needed.
One of the nicest features is that the bag comes off of its base. So when you strap it to the bike you are actaully strapping a flat base (which doubles as a map holder if you need it) to the bike. the whole tank bag then unzips from the base and you can carry it away like a backpack.
The base actually connects to the V either through suction cups, magnets or straps. I have mine locked down with the magnets and the straps. It's very secure, yet still very easy to unclip the straps down by the seat and flip over for a gas refill.

The bag is loaded with pockets as well, one on the very front near the rider, one big one on each side of the bag, and one that is accesible from the inside of the bag only but has a clear shield on the outside so you can see the contents (this would be useful for a cell phone or mp3, which you wouldnt need access to while riding but may want to glance at to see what song is on, or whose calling you...)

Really a great bag, and I'm very happy with it. Great quality, the seams are all good and strong. All the zippers etc work perfectly...
a bit pricey, I believe I paid a little under $130 for it, but I believe it is worth every penny.

I use a Cortech Super 10 tank bag. I find that if you turn the bag around and use it backwards its magnet flaps fit the tank perfectly. And the little round part on the back (now front) of the bag mimics the headlight and compliments the lines of the bike. The bag now opens toward me instead of away but this had been no big deal. The magnet flaps flop inward when you take it off and seal against the bottom of the bag. Very handy.

Downsides...its a bit small and the map window is smaller then I would like. However, its a good bag. I decided to get the Axio tail pack to compliment it and now I have all the storage I need for riding solo.

Here is a link for the Cortech. http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/product.php?productid=188&cat=31

Im pretty sure its the Super 10. They make a Super 14 as well and for the life of me I cant remember which I ordered. Lol...

Damn, trying to load pics but I think they are to big. Will take some downsized pics later.

BTW, the red on the tailpack does not quite match the red of the versys. I ordered mine in black.

I also turned my small magnetic bag around backwards and seems to hold. The front magnets just catch the two screws on the plastic by the tank in front. Feels pretty strong so should hold. I run it the same way on the other bike. Looks fine. I am going to buy the Rocket manta though as it looks nice on the bike and holds plenty for me.

I've only had it in light rain, but it didnt leak through anywhere. Also, included witht the bag is a built in rain cover, and that would seal all water out.

As far as blocking the insturment cluster... yes and no..
It does if I'm leaning in real low, but for the most part I sit up nice and straight and can see everything just fine.

I've been using the Cortech Mini - Magnetic for about 3 months. Setting it back, as shown in the pictures, still allows the magnets to get good contact on the tank. Road tested up to 80 mph. Geesh, just help the guy out dont insult him!

I got the same two bags. The back strap loops through the loop that the seat tap fits into. The front strap wraps under the front of the frame and is held on (when not in use) with the velcro strap that keeps the two ends looking upwards...I had to fiddle a bit to see how to do it as well...

can someone explain what the editor did here?
http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-luggage/famsa-260/

I know this article is old but I don't know what the did exactly.

"The original harness used to secure the top and the middle points was replaced with an equivalent flat strap while the bottom mounting point was secured to the (frame) tubing that runs alongside the cylinders, using a narrow piece of strapping."

How was it replaced with an equivalent flat strap? Where was the flat strap purchased?

I am trying to mount the side pannier assembly and I have nothing but a mess of straps :-)

Hey fellas, found this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BUFFALO-MOTORCYCLE-LUGGAGE-TAIL-PACK-TANK-BAG-PANNIERS_W0QQitemZ140322996267QQcmdZViewItemQQptZU K_Motorcycle_Parts?hash=item20abe7002b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1689|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:0|2 93:1|294:50) and I believe it's a great bargain. Don't know if the tank bag would fit the Versys though. Is anyone using buffalo bags? And if so, are they any good?

I'm thinking that they got some webbing (strap material) from a local camping supply store. Then cut that down to size. But that's just a guess. I had that bag on back order, but got tired of waiting...

Post some pics and lets see what it looks like.

I just installed the SW-Motech Daypack II tank bag today. It attaches onto the tank ring, and that's the only part that touches the bike. I have only taken it around the neighborhood, but full lock turns in both directions were without issue--and I have rolled my handlebars back a bit, so that was a concern for me.

Pix below show it in its most compact form, then fully expanded and with the map holder attached. The map holder is huge. I haven't ridden with that yet, but it doesn't seem to interfere with anything. It's a separate purchase, so if I don't like it, I can return it--and I'll post here if it doesn't work.

I'm surprised with how easy it is to pull it off the tank, and how easily it re-attaches, yet it is well secured.

I've got a Cortech Mini Magnetic Tank Bag (Cortech 82-401) that I've been using on my ST1100 (although I had to mount some magnets under the plastic of my Honda in order to use it...) but now I'm using the same bag on my Versys.

On the Versys I place it back to front so I get the most good out of the magnets in the bag's foot. Once on the tank, I use a bungee cord to secure the front of the bag to the frame. It works great and saves me a few bucks by being able to use one tank bag for two different rides.

Chase Harper make many different tank bags and I think the 650M would work good on the Versys. MotoCentic make nice bags but they don't fit the V very well. How do I know? Well....I may get in trouble for saying this.... but I sell both of them on my website.
Hope I didn't break any rules :sorry:

Picked up a "T-BAGS" tank bag, magnetic, at my dealer. REALLY like it! Here's a link: http://www.tbags.com/detail.aspx?ID=47&SelectedCat=4
Holds a lot, is expandable, rain cover, removable map pocket (:thumb:), and 'sticks' to my V PDG! :goodidea:

Givi T409 Not too big. Sturdy and the magnets keep it stuck like glue. I have the bag turned upside down for a better fit with the cup holder.

+1 to the Chase Harper bags. I put a 540m CR 2 magnetic tankbag on my Versys and am very happy with it. It doesn't have any "ears" off the side, so it fits better on the Versys tank than other types of bag. You can see it at: http://www.chaseharper.com/TankBags/TankBags.htm

Found this one today. I'd don't need
a real large bag, I like the ridged sides
and ease of removable. Small enough
to carry.

Twisted Throttle have a list of tank bags that they have test fit on the Versys. This is the bag on the top of their list and the one I want.

I sold my magnetic Cortech 14L bag after it flew of the bike a few times. The shape was wrong for the Versys tank and the magnets were in the wrong spot to adhere well.

I have a Bags Connection Tankbag from SW MoTech and I love it. I have the small Daypack bag for my wifes Ninja EX-500 and I have the Engage sport for my Versys.

I kind of wish I had bought the larger bag, but this does jsut fine, especially since I have saddlebags now.

They are pricy, but the quality and functionality is perfect.

I'm cheap... I took my old Nelson Rigg tank bag that had 5 magnets (1 in center, 4 on corner flaps). I cut out the 2 that are in flaps that don't stick to the plastic fairings and moved them to the corners of the bag, next to the center magnet by cutting new slots inside the bag. Now all 5 magnets stick to the tank. For the two flaps that have no magnet, I folded them up and stitched them in place so they're not flapping around. It's not a great fit, but it works.

I like my OGIO tank bag & my OGIO tail bag. They go well together.
