: Making the versys taller?

This may sound absurd..but I'm looking for ways to make the distance between the pegs and the seat just a little bit wider. I don't necessarily need the bike to be taller..just more leg room. I was thinking about getting a different seat..or a gel cover...or pad..something to that effect? Everyone wants to lower theirs..I must be the only person in the world who wishes it was taller! ha It could use about another inch or so for me to be content.

Any ideas? I don't believe moving the pegs is an option..and I'm not particularly mechanically skilled.

you are not alone! I find mine a little cramped in the cockpit! spent 2000km on it on my long weekend and that was my only complaint, I have looked mine over and would be to hard to move begs, I am going to go to a upholsterer and see what they can do.
although i think the bike is already high enough and have not managed to get anything to touch in the corners. infact i cant evenuse the last 10mm of tread. so it would be nice to be able to lower pegs. will let you know how i go with seat

Kawasaki in Europe offers a tall gel seat, 30mm, or about 1 1/4" taller than stock. It is a Kawasaki accessory. Kawasaki US customer service said they expect it to be available by September 2008. I tried ordering through a number of dealers in the UK online and they would not ship to the states.

Two options; or a combo of both:

Install lowered pegs....

And/Or....

Install the Kawi raised seat, or have your current rebuilt higher.

I love my bike but cannot get comfortable. The pegs keep my legs bent to far and the seat seems to push me forward. I am so uncomfortable i actually thought about taking a beating and selling it at whatever price ebay brought. If i could figure a way to put forward mounted hiway pegs that would be a great help, but have not been able to find anything. The day i sat on the bike i should have trusted my gut and walked away........

Hi. I just bought my Versys a few days ago--a used one, 4 months old with ~700 miles on it. The PO already had the lowered gel seat on it, and no OEM. I find it too cramped between the butt and footpegs also. The first thing I'm going to try is to recover the Airhawk I lent to a friend, and see how that works on it (lifts you a little). If that's not good enough, I wonder if there's anybody here in the DC Metro area who might be interested in swapping an OEM for the lowered gel, at least to get a feel for the difference?

Otherwise, great bike so far!

Cheers! AD

I shipped my factory seat off to Sargent Cycle today. Raising 1", widening and foam upgrade. I'll let you know how it is when it returns.

Waxrash,
I would love to know how that works out and what the cost was. I love the bike to death but I wouldn't mind a little more cushion and a little more room.

Thanks

BTW, Sargent is making a template of my seat pan.
Generally, they will offer an upgrade package from the template they make, however if there is enough interest they will offer a turnkey seat for the Vs.

Thus far they have been easy to work with, I'll followup after I get my seat back to let you know how it all turns out.

I have had Mustang and Corbin seats, but this is my first experience with Sargent. So far, so good.

They won't make a seat until we ask for it, so start asking.

If you are interested in the Vario adjustable pegs to lower the pegs I believe you can get them from amotostuff.com.

Amotostuff is very popular in the V Strom community. I've bought everything from tires to wheel bearings from them. Nice people.

I emailed them and they said they can get them for the Vs. I have not ordered as I want to check out what the seat does first.

Wax,
Do those pegs fit straight on the Versys? Do you have any experience with them?

I do not have any first hand experience. I have been shopping them to see if they may cure my seat to peg issues.
