: FS: Versys (CA) $5250
ColorItBlue 10-03-2008, 06:35 PM That's right it's me again. I haven't sold the bike so I'm knocking $1000 off the price. Bike is in SoCal so come and get it or have your shipper pick it up.
Bought new from dealer August 6, 2008. Garaged, covered, service at dealer, seat fixed.
No, it cannot be registered in CA, at least until the odometer says 7500 miles. It currently reads 1172 miles.
If you would like to see more high resolution images let me know and I can email them.
layfju 10-03-2008, 11:24 PM Beautiful bike, she looks at home on that California beach, what's wrong with her? You can sell a perfectly good V like that, if you need money give blood or sell the wife! =-))
The Gorilla 10-04-2008, 12:52 AM If you want to loan it to me, I'll put the mileage on so you have a better chance of selling it here in CA. :D
ColorItBlue 10-04-2008, 05:14 PM If I get pulled over here in CA and cited for the registration then it goes into the computer at DMV with a permanent red flag and can NEVER be registered in CA.
I had a plan for getting a title in Oregon but it had a meltdown.
I put it on Ebay this afternoon.
elijahl2 10-06-2008, 03:18 PM I'm willing to buy it, if you're willing to ship it to my military address. I've got the money for it and shipping. Feel free to contact me. I'm stationed at Naval Air Station Sigonella Sicily, Italy.
ColorItBlue 10-06-2008, 05:30 PM It is basically pretty simple. You buy the bike from me. Your shipper picks it up at my home and ships it to your location. There are many shippers available online, Ebay lists a bunch in their motorcycle sales section. Of course, I would need the actual money before your shipper would be allowed to take the bike.
ColorItBlue 10-06-2008, 06:24 PM The "7500 mile rule" is not a rumor, it is fact. Check the California DMV website, they clearly define the parameters for registering a used bike there. They consider anything with 7500 miles on the odometer to be a used bike and therefore the "49-state" situation is no longer relevant.
Enemy Zero 10-07-2008, 12:02 AM Good luck on the sale. Anyone in California interested in this bike should check the other thread that ColoritBlue made on this sale, there's a way of making it work in there, you just have to buy another instrument cluster. I'm not saying to do it or condoning any illegal activity, there's merely a link with some information if needed.
Darth Lefty 10-07-2008, 12:12 AM Mileage is not the only problem... there's also the fact that it was never registered in the first place. I'm sure there must be a way to sort it out but I don't know what it is.
ColorItBlue 10-07-2008, 06:15 AM If you believe the mileage on the odometer is inaccurate :) you can adjust it using software or have it done, there are several companies. The "never registered" issue is not that big of a deal, there is a procedure on the DMV site that indicates the MCO is used to register the bike.
ColorItBlue 10-07-2008, 06:21 AM Bike is still for sale. It is listed on Ebay, the current bid is $4650 but who knows if the bidder is bona fide and will actually make the purchase. It isn't sold until it is sold.
Regarding the mileage issue: the DMV here in CA requires a "mileage verification form" with the signature of a peace officer who completed the inspection to be filed as part of the registration paperwork. They will also verify the VIN at some point in the process.
ColorItBlue 10-16-2008, 09:28 PM Ebay buyer flaked out so my Versys is for sale again. Further research indicates that I can never register this motorcycle in California since I am the original buyer and the purchase took place while I was a resident of CA. Even if it "somehow" accumulated 7500 miles on the odometer I can't register it as a used bike. Someone else could, but not me. Price is ultra-low due to location and necessity for buyer to transport. Come and get it!
Machog 10-17-2008, 12:37 PM Probably won't help, but now that V's can be sold in CA and met the CARB regs and 08's and 09's are identical, could you get an 'easement' (wrong word, but can't think of the right one) to register it legally in CA?

ColorItBlue 10-17-2008, 05:36 PM The California DMV looks at the 2008 Versys as a 49-state bike, which it is. I do believe the 2009 is slightly different to make it a 50-state bike since I think it has the charcoal cannister for vapor recovery from the gas tank. DMV doesn't care about any of that stuff, they just look at the original status of the 2008 Versys and say no deal on the registration unless it fits into some very narrow "special circumstances". One of those is the used bike rule, 7500 on the odometer and the owner bought it from someone who had it registered in another state. I can't do it myself, at least not in Calif. and my Oregon plan faded out so I am gonna take it to Vegas and sell it in the DMV parking lot there with a sign on it "best offer today" unless I can sell it here in the next few days.
Yelloboi 10-18-2008, 02:41 PM Only if you were in Colorado . :(
ColorItBlue 10-18-2008, 03:08 PM Well, if I was in a state where I could register it, then I wouldn't be selling. There is also the matter of year-round motorcycle weather here in SoCal. When I lived in Colorado (Summit County) everything was getting ready to turn white for six months around this time of year...
ColorItBlue 10-21-2008, 07:35 AM $4750. Last chance. I'm going to sell to the dealer in Las Vegas on Saturday if nothing happens this week.
ColorItBlue 10-22-2008, 08:08 PM All PMs answered, price is now $4500, come and get it while you can, save me from a ride to Las Vegas and a really disgusting offer from the dealer there. I WILL sell this bike somehow.
Words of advice from lesson learned the hard way: be VERY careful about vehicle transactions across state lines and/or title issues. I know, I know, everybody already knew that except me.
Darth Lefty 10-22-2008, 11:28 PM :( Sorry this is working out so poorly.
ColorItBlue 10-23-2008, 04:52 AM Believe me, I've got the butter knife to my wrist right now.
ColorItBlue 10-24-2008, 01:32 PM Buyer from Arizona just loaded my pristine Versys into a pickup truck for the trip home. It has been nice but....ColorMeGone.
