As some of you might know, i sadly sold my Versys. I have a 2011 TU250x that i get about 75 mpgs on so far, hopefully more once i finish breaking her in. Anyways i am looking for a bike with a little more power that will average 65 or more mpgs. Any ideas?

I am open to anything really but ideally...

dual sport or street bike
fuel injection but doesnt have to be
upright seating position
priced at or below what i paid for my v $6000 otd
New or used but used would be best.

I am just looking for models that i might be missing out on, so far i got...

klx250s or sf
dr350
drz400s or sm
cbr250 maybe?
ninja 250 maybe too small for me (size wise not power)

The DRZ won't average 65mpg.
The only ones fuel injected that I can think of are the CBR250R and the WR250r/x. Both don't have much power but they should be noticably more than the TU250x. The CBR250R can be had with ABS for less than $5k which is a lot of bike for the money.

Using an annual mileage of 10K, @ 3.50$ gas
The difference between 65mpg & 50 mpg
is 162$ or 13.50$ a month.

It would be nice if they made a small displacement bike
with a frame size similar to a Versys. Full grown people on
Ninja 250 and Rebel 250 kinda look ______

I think the CBR250 might be worth looking at seriously. Our nearest Honda dealer recently received one so we went to take a look. It's a very nice "little" bike - single cylinder, liquid cooled, fuel injected, by no means tiny, quite comfortable, and not a slug.

Several magazines recently have done comparisons between the CBR250 and Ninja 250 and, as you might expect, they liked some aspects of the CBR better than the Ninja and some less than the Ninja. As I recall, though, the CBR was favored overall. Most reviewers seemed to agree the Ninja is getting a little long in the tooth. Still, it's also a nice bike.

If I were going to choose one, it would be the CBR, although it does sound a bit like a sewing machine. Still, it's an impressive piece of machinery. MSRP, as I recall, is $3999. Is that a good price? I don't really know, but you could buy just over 7 of them what a full-blown Gold Wing lists for.

Last bike before my Versys, was a 2008 Ninja 250. The bike received a total makeover in 2008. I really liked the way the bike looked and ran. My younger daughter is still ticked off that I got rid of it. I routinely got 60 mpg. As I'm not a 'big' guy (150 lbs.), I always felt the bike had enough power on the highway. Not alot of power, but enough. Two reasons why I replaced the Ninja with my Versys - 1) needed more power with my wife as a passenger, 2) wanted more comfort/upright seating position for longer rides.

Ninja 500 gets good mileage, better than the Versys despite the carbs, and offers fantastic bang for the buck. All 500s are the same regardless of year. It's as fast as the Versys, at least to 60. Only issue is you may want to install handle bar risers if you do a lot of stop and go type city riding. Best thing though is you can pick up a good example of one for 1.5-2.5K. If you don't mind the older styling it is a lot better bike than the 250 and almost as good as the 650.

2011 Ninja 400R available in Canada (MPG TBA)... Hopefully in USA next year?

Have you considered a "Royal Enfield"....Beautiful bikes, 500cc air-cooled thumper, and rated @85 mpg (US gallons)?

Yeah, i just remembered those the other day. There is a local dealership and they have the military version, very cool. Just a little concerned about reliability and power. At 412 lbs dry weight and only 27.5 crank hp, will it be much stronger than the TU? I am not looking for more accel or top speed tho, just looking for a little more pull up hills so maybe the large displacement and torque numbers will get me that. I will have to demo one, but they are very good looking bikes.

That would be awesome, but most reviews dont think it will be coming to the USA. I doubt it will achieve the mileage i am looking for either, but possibly. If they do come i will surely be one of the first to check them out.

When the bike bug first hit me junior year in high school i always wanted a ninja 500. A guy at the place i worked rode one in almost everyday and i drooled over it daily. However, i dont think it has the mileage i am looking for (51 kawi rating i believe which is the same as kawi's V rating), and no longer my cup of tea

Someone already mentioned the BMW F650, but they still make, or are again making, the G650, the old thumper. I think the gas mileage is in the seventies and horsepower is right around fifty. The original cost may knock it out as a money saving decision, but it might fit the bill otherwise.

I guess that's the same bike as the european Honda Innova. It can be modifed for manual clutch operation. The 213 mpg mod guy did just that. But I guess that's a slug and you wouldn't want to ride that outside a city.
