Does anyone find their speedo on the optomistic side? I rode my wife's V back on a long trip & felt the displayed speed was too high. At a stop for fuel , I told her to maintain a constant speed of 120 km/h on the freeway ( she was in her car, stock wheels & tires). The displayed speed on the V was about 130-132 km/h when side by side. I know this was not a precise test but 10-12 km/h out is quite a difference. Any comments guys?

My speedo is about 4.5 miles per hour slow at 70. Seems to be a common problem.

hi iceman,

you are correct. the V's speedometer is indeed optimistic.
posted this on another site which confirms your suspicion.

the speedometer error on the V is about 8 percent over. checked against a gps unit (garmin 60csx) and observed the following :

gps / speedometer / @ rpm in sixth gear

1. 80 kph / 86 kph / 4000 rpm

2. 100 kph / 108 kph / 5000 rpm

3. 110 kph / 119 kph / 5500 rpm

4. 120 kph / 130 kph / 6000 rpm

It's universal... no telling why the bike manufacturers do this. Your tach is probably off, too. Yamaha refunded a bunch of people who found their R6's didn't really rev so high (http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=25009), a couple years ago.

Anyone have any ideas about a different tyre profile to make the speedo read more accurately?

I installed a speedo healer in mine.

I installed a 16 tooth sprocket and the speedo is less than 1 mile an hour fast. checked with GPS.
