Here's a very inexpensive guard. It is aluminum and secured with Electrical Ties. Total cost: $2.10 including tax. Actually, I could make 2 guards with what I bought so that brings the price down to $1.05. Who says, there's no deals left anymore!

Looks like the same stuff I used, got it at Home Depot. It's actually cover for rain gutters.

I left the curve in mine. Does the job though, I have pried some pretty big bugs out of mine, as well as a couple of rocks.

Yes I did make it. I wanted some highway pegs and couldn't find any so I made them. They work great.

Dallasdon, It looks like you did a great job on your bike and pegs. There is a concern though. I see how your pegs attach to the engine mounts. Before I had the H and P engine guards, I had sliders that extended out in the same area you attached your pegs. Someone must have kicked at the left one because one day I noticed it was gone and it broke just inside the hole. It took over 4 hours in the hot sun in a parking lot far from home to get the remaining bolt out. Fortunately I had a person who could drive me to a bolt store to replace that bolt and nut.

Also fortunately, it was not the right side that busted because that side has the muffler pipes a lot more in the way. Your pegs give too much leverage on that long bolt if the bike falls.

I designed these to break away outside the bolt head when I welded it so I'm not too concerned about them breaking. I can get the remaining bolt out without much of a problem. I've had a lot of experience with the engine mount bolts and the idiot that designed that locking nut area that is cast into the engine should be taken out an shot. That is one of the poorest designs I have ever seen in my life. About the only way to tighten those bolts is to wedge something between the nut and the engine block to keep it from turning. Lots of experience there.

Highly agree. I got a rope, now we just have to incite a riot on this forum. One less stupid designer to deal with.

But...maybe they thought since the muffler was in the way to get a tool in to hold it was there thought about trying to capture it.

I just saw yer fairing sliders. I want them they look like they would protect the tank fairings completely. What brand are they and where would I find them?

The sliders are for 2005-2007 Kawasaki ZZR600.

Cost $26 dollars to my door.

The bolts that come with the sliders are the same size as the bolts that are in the bike now, so the sliders bolted right up as I recall.

The bolts are not very big,and the brackets they bolt into are not very substantial , so about the only good the sliders will do is in the case of a layover at slow to no speed.

I laid mine over in the garage and scratched the side up a little bit, so I thought they might save some damage another time.

That damn kickstand needs to be kicked forward every time you use it, if it isn't, it will fold up on you and usually you are not in a position to catch it.

You're right about that kickstand. If I don't nudge it all the way forward with my foot each time I use it, the bike will slowly fall towards me. It's never actually fallen over, but one time recently I had to make a good catch to keep it from doing so. It was halfway over, and I just barely managed to save it before it hit the ground. I'll be a little more careful when deploying the kickstand from now on...

I used the same gutter cover as a radiator guard but I added my twist to it. I bought some automotive door edge guard in black. I put it on the edges of the gutter cover to give it a more finished look. I found that Lowe's does not sell the small sections but I had no problem getting it from Home Depot.

I saw the rain gutter cover/radiator guard at home depot. My question is, how exactly do you secure it to the radiator as I see no holes to tie anything to. Also, since the radiator may get hot, will it melt any plastic secured to it?

$1.95 aluminum vent guard from Lowes.
$1.50 for spacers and fasteners.

Painted it black and mounted it so that it is contact with the radiator body. This facilitates heat conduction from the radiator to the guard, so that it doesn't simply limit airflow and reduce cooling capability.

I've ridden the bike in +90 degree/high huminity weather in stop-and-go traffic and had not had any heat issues.

Thanks for the inspiration guys, I knew I wanted to make my own, went to Home Depot/Lowes, didnt see anything I liked, went to a custom sheet metal shop, got a $20 piece of decorative sheet metal with holes, good weight, crimped a hook edge on top, hung that on top of the radiator, then bolted into the lower fan guard, might leave it silver, might paint it black.
