: Installing Givi side cases
actar911 04-16-2008, 09:44 AM For thos of you that have already installed givi side cases, I have a question:
do you only need the 076-PL447 rack or do you also need the 076-PLX447K fit kit.
Givi and TwistedThrottle state on their site that you need both parts. Spoke to Givi directly and the guy told me I do not need the fit kit.
I guess the best answer is from someone that has installed one. I am installing it without the rear trunk rack and I am not installing V35, just regular cases.
I want to install this this weekend and do not want to find out that I am missing a part half way through installation!!!
thnaks for the input
AlexDz 04-16-2008, 01:39 PM I believe that if you are also using the appropriate rack, that you do NOT need the fit kit. Since it sounds like you're not using a rack, then you need it.
Of course, you're right, the best answer should come from someone who's done it! There's a thread specifically on the different rack combinations on the British Versys site though, which is where I saw this.
Brother Verse Us 04-16-2008, 02:42 PM If you have the PL447 side rack, then you are good to go with installation for the side cases only. However, if you ever plan on adding the V46 top case, then you need the PLX447 side cases. The top case bracket (FZ447) will not work with the PL447.
If you decide to go with the PLX447 rack, in the event that you want to add a top case later, then you will need either need to order an FZ447 rack or the fit kit to allow the side rack to mount properly.
Pulllll 04-19-2008, 09:43 PM The PL447 mounts the side cases, the fit kit ties the rear upper mounting point on the PL 447 rails to a bolt under the seat. If you purchase a rear plate to mount a rear box to it serves as the mount point and the kit is not needed. I used the PL447 with the kit see my photos posted in the photo gallery.

Brother Verse Us 04-19-2008, 10:23 PM Pulllll,
At first I looked at your photos and thought that you actually had the PLX447 rack installed. However, I'm now thinking that maybe the dealership I bought my Versys from sent me the Kawi rack instead of the Givi as I had requested. They even wrote PL447 on the packaging, although it was handwritten, which is further convincing me that they screwed up. All of the photos I've been trying to see of the PL447 are obscured by luggage. Can you take a photo of just the rack so that I can compare? Thanks. I have the PLX447 and FZ447 installed on my Versys right now.
Also, I took the following quote from Twisted Throttle regarding the PL447:
The Givi PL447 siderack cannot be installed on the bike without first installing the Givi FZ447 toprack or PLX447 fitting kit.
actar911 04-25-2008, 06:19 AM Thanks for the info. I called the dealer back to get the PLX447kit, but seems that they are back ordered until June and nobody has them in stock. So I know have the rack, but cannot install it.
Does anyone have a kit they want to sell. If you have the side rack and trunk rack, you do not need the kit, so I would be willing to buy it from you including shipping.
Thanks
Brother Verse Us 04-25-2008, 09:08 AM I'm not sure where you live, but I would try some vendors other than Kawasaki. TwistedThrottle has been fairly reliable for having Givi products in stock. The fit kit is $24.30 on their website:

actar911 04-25-2008, 10:33 AM Already tried Twisted Throttle, Happy trail, amotostuff, givi US and Canada, Sport touring and California sport touring (suggested by Givi US) as well as local dealers in my area that bought some recently from Givi Canada to see if they still had them
All of this with no luck!!! SO if none of you have one that htey are not using, I guess the rack and cases will remain in the garage until June.
Will go shopping for a tank bag next week!!!
This thread may shed some light for others trying to work their way through the bracket confusion: http://www.versys.co.uk/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=45&topic=2020.0

I too had to wait for the kit which my dealer had direct shipped from GIVI, in the interim I uses nylon zip ties from the rear seat handle to the top bolt mounts, I rode like that for about a month no problem what so ever. It didn't look to pretty but functional.

actar911 04-27-2008, 06:56 AM Thanks for the tip Pulllll,
I was looking at the pictures of your installation to see what that kit looks like. Could you snap a shot of it so I could see what it looks like?
thank for the help
