The Royal Enfields are beautiful, fun bikes. Available in Canada for about $1000-$1500 less than a Versys. It would be amazing for bombing about town and burning up the back roads. The only shortfall is that you wouldn't want to do much long highway. But its hard to beat such a great classic design, with all the modern additions such as EFI and good brakes, all for that price. Head turner for sure!

The current issue of Cycle Canada magazine has a fun comparo between the Bullet Classic and the Ural Patrol. They really like the Royal Enfield a lot.

The same issue does a comparo between a Gold Wing and a La-Zee-Boy:p. I love that magazine, those guys are hilarious.

I agree, the Bullet would be a fun bike to own anywhere, except that I'm not sure it could keep up with the pace of modern traffic.

Troof be told, many years ago, I considered buying one as a commuter. How cool would that be riding one the few miles through the city to work. But upon close inspection, that thing looks like a maintenance nightmare while leaking oil. Heads and shoulders above a Ural though.

I looked at them too. I did a bunch of reading and research and came to the same conclusion. They don't have the low maintenance reliability of most of the modern bikes. They need to be tinkered with a lot more than most.

I'd suggest that a Royal Enfield (which were NOT highly regarded when I started riding back in 1963) would "scratch-the-itch" for an antique bike, without having to go looking for one...! :exactly:
