: Rad Guard drawing
silverfish 04-09-2008, 12:23 PM Like you guys in the States I also have the problem of finding goodies for my V and it costs an arm to have things shipped out to South Africa, so I did a drawing of a radguard similar to the Romatech one and had it lasercut locally. If anyone is interested PM me and I can send them the Autocad file which can be used to have one cut out. I used 1.6mm stainless steel plate and it cost me about half the amount of buying one. I admit that I did a little polishing to get it looking good but it was worth it.

I should be picking up my rad guard, based on your drawing, tomorrow. Was wondering what the process is for polishing and is that better than painting?
I had various prices given to me, most of them over $120. FInally found a local guy who is doing it for $60 :)
Thanks again
les

If It's stainless steel like mine was, I first used an orbital sander with a very fine emery paper (material type, not paper) with a bit of water and cleaned it up, then I used 'autosol' metal polish with a buffing wheel attached to a drill and did the final polishing.
If it's mild steel I would consider powder coating it rather than paint as It's harder to scratch
cheers

ttudesperado 10-09-2008, 08:56 AM I live in the DFW area also, where did you get it laser cute at?
Hammer 06-04-2009, 02:34 PM Hi Silverfish, where in SA did you have it cut? cheers H
ttpete 06-04-2009, 05:10 PM It's possible to get pre finished 316 stainless sheet, either in brush finish or polished. It comes with a plastic protector sheet covering the finish. It's used in the restaurant and kitchen trade. If you can get it cut with a water jet machine, it will cut through the protector, which can be peeled off afterwards.

Zonkelnut 06-05-2009, 03:31 AM Just a question, what is the weight?
Yarne 06-05-2009, 04:08 PM I would appreciate a copy sent to drafter49@hotmail.com. Thanks in advance
stlee29 06-05-2009, 07:53 PM The V guys here made mass produced of their own radiator guard.
Priced at USD$ 32. Made of aluminium.
Sorry, not sold overseas. Just sharing design notes.
Would have bought it but had mine DIY.
Dave E 06-06-2009, 04:11 PM Silverfish - I would appreciate a copy too, sent to my email - delliott@xplornet.com (delliott@xplornet.com)
Thanks for your time and effort
fasteddiecopeman 06-07-2009, 12:44 PM Guys,
FWIW - I went to Home Depot and bought a screen (6" X 12" ...?) for gutters and 'rattle-canned' it black. Attached it with several zip-ties. Cost about $8 including paint (LOTS left.).
Ed
Zonkelnut 06-07-2009, 01:09 PM did the same. Home Depot and fastened it on the screws below and top H&B bars. Cheap and works well. Also painted black

This one. The screen cost about $4 ($3.95?), and the paint about $4 too.
Thx
Can you give me the name of the screen and the department?
It looks interesting ;)
steven1955 01-09-2011, 03:53 PM How cheap is it to make one of these guards, meaning the one the drawing is for, if someone had many made up at the same time. Leshall got one made for $60. If his guy made 5, 10, or even 20 I'd expect the price to get a lot lower.
I'd be interested in a SS or heavy gauge aluminum guard if inexpensive enough. I don't think the aluminum mesh guards offer enough protection.
Anyone want to arrange group buy?
stlee29 01-09-2011, 05:39 PM Malaysia local rad design and produced. Priced at USD 100.

Wish I could. Went to the department where you get gutters, asked a salesguy, and it was close to there. :goodluck:
