That would not be the first Ducati on my wish list. About now that would be a Monster 796.

To each his own.

I like everything, except of course the front end. So hard to get that bit right.

Absolutely horrible.
I'm disgusted by this on so many levels.

It looks like Italy's answer to the V-Rod.

I was going to say this is what happens when a V-Rod has a drunken all nighter and sleeps with an Italian. :D

The current issue of Motorcyclist has a story (inside back cover) on how Ducati is taking over the bad-boy image from Harley-Davidson because H-D's market is getting too old. Perhaps the Diavel is a shot across Harley's bow.

I wouldn't go as far as that.
It's more economics. US market is the largest (basically one and only) for Ducati. They are pleasing their customers.

And to think I was a Ducatista...Sigh...

Thats the best pic ive seen so far... I love it. I think it looks more and more of a shot across the bow of yamahas VMAX. I think it looks like the Cruiser of the fueture.

Sport yet laid back.... Can you tell i like it? Now the question is how much for this sucker...id say 40-45 easy.

The Motorcyclist story refers to the world market, not the U.S.

"After a long, noisy ride as the official bad-boy brand in global moto-culture, Harley-Davidson now seems to be settling into an image that's a bit less edgy--perhaps something in a Briggs & Stratton or a Black & Decker, but with a bit more give in the waist and seat for greater comfort. Wasting no time, ripped and buff Ducati has swiftly filled the cultural-icon vacuum with its own special blend of bikes, babes and 'buctiousness...."

That's about the first third of the story, the rest talks about World Ducati Week in Misano Italy which "marks the epicenter of this seismic shift in motorcycling culture."

Not that Ducati has replaced H-D, but that it is in the process of so doing. According to Jeff Karr, Motorcyclist November 2010, page 98.

YMMV

I liked it from the back. Ducati doesn't need to get into the cruiser business. I died a little today.

The Diavel will be available in PA in February. The standard model will be $15K. An upgraded model $20K. Very interesting.....

Personally I think it's sharp.
A cruiser with 140 HP, only 440 pounds wet ( our Versys weights in at 454# wet), and a 40 degree lean angle!!!!
A V-Rod weights in at 670# wet and32 degree lean angle.
not so much like a V-rod after-all if you ask me.
Ducati Has it on it's US web site with some terrific video too
Definitely LUST!!! Worthy:devil:

I'm still not smitten by the looks, but Motorcyclist reports that the Ducati test department has never tested a faster accelerating, better braking bike. So maybe it won't go 190 mph, but it'll suck the paint off practically anything you can put a license plate on from a standstill. There's something to be said for that, I suppose.

looks good in the flesh, saw one at the NEC bike show in Novemeber.

Persoanlly I think its treading a similar path as Triumph did with the Rocket III and or Thunderbird. its going to be a bit like comaprisons between US muscle cars and non US cars, corners are part of the fun and enjoyment, not be scared of. its a cruiser for people who cannot cope eith /will not want the hump the tank appraoch of a full on sports bike, or can't get their leg over anythign except a low down cruiser.

whether it will sell is a moot point, who knows. I don't think its really a bike targetted at Versys riders though :)

I saw a Diavel when I was in Portland and what a beautiful, cool bike. Finally, a high performance cruiser in every aspect. If they make a 796 version and do away with the "Red Key" thingy I will definately take a close look at it. Hopefully a Jap mfr copies it. Pictures do not do this bike justice, it doesn't look goofy in person.

I drooled over the MultiStrada 1200 until I saw one in person. I'm not too fond of the K1600GT/GT-L in photos but still haven't seen one in person. The Diavel looks unbalanced in photos but people seem to love it when they see it in person. Sometimes seeing it "in person" makes all the difference.
