My shifter rubber cover with its thin ribs was already worn out at 2600 Kms. I replaced it with a Yamaha # 132-18113-01 for about $2... The bore is a bit smaller but it was easy to slip on after warming it up with a hair blower.

Great tip, and if you don't want to wait on the dealer, try:

They have them in stock for $1.50 even though you have to pay shipping. This part is common to many different years of Yamaha's.

The $1.50 is no big deal...the $7.00 shipping is a little too steep for me...

I think the original rubber only appeared to have a larger bore after streching it out with a screwdriver to force it over the tip and off the shifter... The Yamaha cover is a perfect fit, and can be rotated as easily as the original.

Order from Motions in Marietta for pickup and you don't pay shipping.

I would imagine other dealers do the same thing.

I was eyeballing the shifter from my 1983 V65 Magna and considered using that rubber bootie! Great tip though....
