How bout it guys? Any interest in a ride on Sunday September the 7th up to the parkway? I was thinking about meeting around Winston Salem and running up and over and back.Any interest or any ideas would be great.Thinking of it being a day trip with a stop for lunch and stuff.Weather should be cooling then. Open to suggestions:thumb:

I am working on a route now. I am thinking meet in Winston Salem around 9 am. If this is to early let me know. No pressures on anyone this is just a greet and ride at your own pace kinda deal. We can decide as the day goes on if everyone would prefer. I will put a tentative route together and post it and see if anyone has anything to add.

James,

I'd really like to join you guys. I'd say I'm about 90% there right now, but I hope to nail it down today or tomorrow.

For what it's worth, I vote on including Squirrel Spur on the route. I always like to ride that road when I get a chance. I haven't ridden it on the V yet, but it was a blast on my KLR. I even had fun on it on a HD Heritage Softtail that rented a few years ago.

There's tons of good roads north of Winston-Salem, though, so we really can't go wrong.

BTW, Highway 89 through Stokes and Surry Counties is also a lot of fun.

Sounds like most of you guys are south of me here . I am about an hour or better south of Asheville,NC . If you guys are planning on running north on the BRP , I would be up for running south and meeting up for lunch or something like that .

Dragonbreath ,

I still can't believe you sold your KLR bro . Hope you like your V as much as I do mine . I am reduced to noodle and butter for meals to keep my KLR . Just kidding . I like them both , one as well as the other .

Da-Silva and Tsunami ,
UH....UH..., why do you think they call me PO-SLOKE ? lol . We could hook up and bring up the rear . Hec , that's how I always get gas money home . I just tool along behind and sell of the pieces and parts the fast guys loose in the wind .

Looks like this is going to be the largest collection of Versyses (!) on one ride! :-) I'm looking forward to it!

Skeeter, 9 a.m. in Winston sounds good...guess your route's starting point is where we meet....the final group perhaps PM cell phone numbers to each other for contact info? Just a thought...

Po-Sloke, I have always been a back bencher from my school days...so no worries there. You know where to find me ;)

You guys have a great ride!

I just came down parts of BRP last week on my way back from WV.

Some parts are closed due to a landslide. So you may want to call the park rangers and get status before the final route is chosen.

Here is the link to the .GOV site for BRP closures . I personally don't have time to right now to look , but maybe this will help someone spearhead an idea .

Well Mr. Xprovince , There is only one cure for that my friend . Load up , ride out , come on over , and we will let you in . We can turn off the GPS`and just ride until we find the next awesome greasy spoon for some eats , good times and laughS .
You just have to remember one thing if you come this way . Tell the waitress that I want unsweet tea and I am about 5 minutes from arrival . LOL ,

Glad to see some interest:thumb: I am going to work on a couple possible routes this weekend and post them up. Mainly just want to put a route together in case anyone wants to join us along the way. Should be fun

I would consider riding the route . Of course , you know how logistics can be though .
Not knowing you guys and how your style of riding . I am always VERY quick to admit that I don't run fast .
I always like to put that out there . I just try to avoid diappointig folks if they are looking to really hammer through . Nothing worse than waiting on PO-SLOKE at every turn if the other rider/riders are wanting to cover some ground quickly . LOL
BUT . I am really good at following decent directions to the dinner table and don't mind if the ice in my teas melts a bit waiting for me to get there . LOL

Post up , let's look and let's ride if it works out .

p.s. IMHO , and if I were you , I would avoid building a route that inlcudes hwy 64 and or 107 around the Lake Toxaway , Cashiers area . If someone has never ridden through here before , it can sometimes be a ride they never forget . The dump truck and big truck traffic on those roads is absolutely insane . Simply by how many there are and how dangerous they drive . Never mind the dump trucks are no-stop spilling pea gravel on the roads all day .LOL

Live in Tennessee but would be interested if you all are comeing anywere close. Or if the route will swing down this way. Let me know any details asap. I don't know the distance but the cheryahola and the tail of the dragon just inside of Tennessee 165 and 129 are good rides but would make for a weekend ride probably.

OK here goes it.
Let me preface by saying western NC guys you are not forgotton but it is a 300 mile round trip for me just to Asheville and back so that would be a 2 day for me.Hopefully we can set one up in October?

We can meet at the Mcdonalds at the hanes mall parking lot in Winston Salem at 9 am on Sunday morning.Just take the hanes mall blvd exit off I40 in winston.I will be there at 8am. Come closer to 8 if you want to eat. From there we will go 52north to Pilot Mtn and get some pictures, then continue on 52N to hwy 89 just south of mount airy.89 to the BR pkwy and run it South. We will run it until we come to Boone and we will get some lunch in Blowing Rock. I found this place http://www.woodlandsbbq.com/ From Blowing Rock go south on 321 to Lenoir and pick up 64/90 to statesville and back to winston. I am very open to suggestions and the route can change if yall want as the day goes on(we can go farther down the pkwy)I will have a buddy with a goldwing so we will have to make a couple fuel stops along the way. If anyone wants my cell or home phone just shoot me a pm. I relly look forward to meeting all that can make it:thumb:

Skeeter ,
That would be a haul for sure to get to Asheville . I have the same problem getting over to try to ride with Drgonbreath in Winston-Salem . HHHHMMM
I guess we are all going to have to suffer a serious case of monkey but one weekend and JUST DO IT huh ? LOL I did a 423 mile ride yesterday by myself , and let me tell you , I can feel it big time today .

You gotta be tough to be old , as they say . LOL

Is that my arm I feel twisting there Skeeter190? :)

We can definitely work that out soon.

The route you laid out sounds like a good one. I'll PM you with a couple of suggested side routes that might be worth considering. My wife's family is from Mount Airy, so I'm familiar with a few good roads around there that would be nice to add into the route.

Looking forward to it.

I wouldnt say twisting your arm, I prefer to think of it as a subtle hint:p

If you know some good rodes around mt ary we will let you run the lead from mount pilot and show us the way. If no one is going to join us during the day the route can definately change as the day goes on:thumb:

Evening all:

Sounds like an excllent day ride. Will make plans (and every effort to) join in - can certainly do McD's at Hanes Mall Blvd. :thumb:

Have about 5,000 miles on the V now and find that the enjoyment is ever increasing . . . such a fine bike in so many respects . . . stock rear tire is wearing but holding on . . . may need to get new shoes on the V for this ride . . .!

Best,
Deel

Don't want to horn my way in, but if folks want to see some of those roads, I'll be glad to lead that section. It ends up on the Parkway just south of Meadows of Dan, so it will be easy to turn south at that point and tie into the original route that you laid out.

BTW, I mentioned in my thread in the Member Intro forum that I would try to pull together a Piedmont area tech day in late September. What do you think about doing it in early September instead? I was thinking maybe do the tech day on Saturday, 9/6 so everyone can meet and be ready for the ride on Sunday morning, 9/7.

If that date is too early for folks to work it out, then I can do Saturday, 9/27. That day actually works a little better for me than the 6th, but I hate to wait on stuff, so my vote is for 9/6.

I will go ahead and start a new thread for the Tech Day so as not to highjack this thread. I mention it hear only to give the opportunity for folks to consider both as a package if we want to. I will update this post with a link to the new thread once I post it.

Here is the link to the tech day thread. (http://forums.kawasakiversys.com/showthread.php?t=1213)

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

BUMP to give this some front page visibility.....I'm IN...stuck in Raleigh with the rains at the moment....will be there on Sunday! :D

Quick Q - easier to get to McDonalds via exit exit 190 or 189 off of I-40? Thanks!

Skeeter190

Not sure if its 189 or 190. It will be Hanes mall blvd. At the ramp turn right and go to the stoplight and turn left into the mall. You will see the mcdonalds and you should see my V out front along with a Goldwing and maybe a Buell of some sort:thumb:

Big thanks to Skeeter190 for arranging this ride. It was a great day to ride, and it was made better by having 5 Versi (I guess that's how you pluralize Versys?) together.

I got home at about 5:45. De-Silva picked up his things and hit the road back to Raleigh pretty quickly thereafter, so hopefully he's home by now or close to it. AAparatrooper split off about 20 minutes outside of Winston for the long haul back to Fayetteville. He should be the last one to get home.

I look forward to riding with everyone again soon.

I had a great time today and I enjoyed meeting everyone. It was definitely worth trip from Fayetteville. I'm ready for the next one.

-Chris,
Good luck on Wednesday at the Dragon. I've already mentioned the May trip to my wife. To steal from your friend, she didn't say no.

I second the thanks to Skeeter190.

Fantastic ride....and what a great bunch of folks to ride with on my very first group ride! :)

Skeeter, thanks for pulling this together and getting your buddies to ride along....Great guys with lots of years of ridin' behind them for sure!
Thanks Chris for leading the route today....perfect speed maintained...pushing speeds a little bit but not so much as to piss off the cruiser gang! :D you nailed that I think...

Deel, AA, Chris - it was fantastic to ride with you guys....the last section of the parkway specially....is that what is called "Haulin' Ass?" :D

Cheers....we need to do this one more time before winter hits!
