Did a oil/filter change on my truck today. Last time my truck was at the garage the mech said this has not had a oil change for a while, said to hime excuse me only changed oil/filter a few weeks ago, he then said I should use a engine flush when doing change, get the engine up to normal temp, turn off and add flush then run engine for 15 min then drain, well went I was draining the waste oil to a container found all the crap. have been changing oil filter for last 6 years on this vehicle and never seen that much crap as the photos show, must be a carbon buildup. The guy at the garage told me they do that as a Standard operating proceedure for every change they do. May try some flush on car next not sure if you do it to a bike?

That does look nasty ,But I have read some mixed reviews on engine oil flushes .

All that stuff came form your engine despite regular oil change.:eek:

Wow, i've had shops do an oil flush and i've had a coolent flush and both helped out alot with keeping the oil/coolent cleaner for longer.

How many miles or kms are on the vehicle and what kind of oil have you been using?

How often have you been getting the oil and filter changed? Every 5,000 miles or? How many miles on the truck? What type of driving? Stop and go? Highway? Cold winter driving?

I’d sure hope all of that stuff came loose on the pan side of the filter because it looks thick enough to plug an engine oil gallery, not to mention turning a hydraulic lifter into a solid...

If I were you, now that you’ve done it, I’d keep changing the oil (with or without the flush after researching the effects of it) at very short mileage intervals until it starts coming out clean.

Most oils have detergents added, but it might help in extreme dust climates to do the flush periodically, but not every change.

Ewe that's nasty.......

The flush obviously loosened up a bunch of crud that wouldn't come out with just draining the oil. My only concern would be, what happens to the loosened debris that didn't come out? I'd be tempted to change the oil/filter much sooner than usual just in case a substantial amount of the loosened crud stayed in the engine and clogs your filter. Just my 2 cents.

The diesel oil I am using is 15w40 cl-4/sl, the truck is up to 260,000km and is a 1999 ford courior, The first 5 years of its life it was a comercial lease that had regular servicing and one main driver and did long distances around south island, NZ. I service it once a year since 2004 oil/filter at end of winter, KM's on average around 10,000. Never used the engine flush before until mechanic said at last warrent of fitness the oil don't look that good and told me to do engine flush every time I change oil. All previous oil changes there was never crap like that so the flush has shifted all built up carbon by the looks of it.

My work place is 30km away and town is 10km away and we live in country so is does not do many short short trips, it does drive through cold conditions as after night shift at moment there can be big frosts on gound with negative celcius temps.

Further to my oil change drama's, have just done a oil change on our 2007 suzuki swift 1300cc and found more crap than my diesel using a engine flush, the vehicle was serviced before we got it and have done about 10,000km since that service.

what are all the specs/flecks in it? They look yellowish.
