I found some much cheaper on cyclepartsnation.com (about 16$ each compared to 180$ a pair on twisted throttle)...but I don't know what there worth...I've been thinking of adding some protection on my versys too..
http://www.cyclepartsnation.com/

I'd be interested to know too if anyone here has tried any of them out on their bike.

Get them for the 650r and they should mount right to the two angled down tubes.

humm...I'm not sure they would fit looking at the fairing of the 650R...

You want a mount like this that attaches to the tube frame.

I just called them but with the sliders, mounts, shipping, it's almost 200$US for a pair...I know it can save lots of damage...but still...200$ for 2 pucks...is expensive in my opinion...

My thoughts are if you do get something get the best. Do not go cheap on something like this.
Woodcrafts are even more expensive.

Just ordered the same kit. 108$ to have it shipped in Montreal canada. Now Ill try to find some front and rear axle sliders to install eventually...after I have tiddied up the tail...:)

My sliders came in today. Great customer service & really fast shipping from these guys!!

http://www.superbikestore.com/versys.htm

Installation was fairly easy. Seems like a good product, though I'm not sure how well they'll hold up in a slide with any kind of speed. They're made of some kind of plastic-rubber stuff. I was expecting something a little harder. I hope I never have to test them!

Here's a couple of pictures:

This is where it mounts. Its a very solid place for mounting:

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/Bear_on_a_bicycle/Picture080.jpg

How it mounts, pretty much the same for both sides, other than the number of spacers used (3 on one side, 2 on the other):

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/Bear_on_a_bicycle/Picture081.jpg

Mounted:

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/Bear_on_a_bicycle/Picture085.jpg

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/Bear_on_a_bicycle/Picture084.jpg

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g304/Bear_on_a_bicycle/Picture093.jpg

As you can see from a couple of the pictures above, removing the lower screw from the radiator guard on both side makes this job quite a bit easier. The mounting instructions say you may have to trim the radiator guard, but I didn't have to. They touch, but not bad.

Finished with the cool "Versys" logo installed:

View from the seat:

Interestingly, the right one seems to stick out a little further from the bike, but being on the kickstand might have skewed the measurement a bit, even though I tried to compensate for the lean:

Overall I'm happy with them. I guess there isn't much out there that'll protect the two plastic side panels that go from the tank to the head light. They kind of stick out there, mockingly, as if to say, "Go ahead, lay it down. I'm the first to go... And I'm pricey!!"

DOH!!

There aren't too many choices. I didn't really want crash bars, although I did consider them. These are priced right, so I figured I'd give 'em a shot.

Kawa007

The handle bars should protect the tank sides in most cases I think...but I do wonder how well these would hold in a crash...the bolt being deep inside the soft plastic sliders...

Exactly my concern. They're not soft plastic, but they're not delrin. I wish they were delrin. I went to Moto Liberty in San Antonio & looked at the Shogun sliders. They're made of delrin. Its a nice material. Definitely better than the Powerbronze, but they don't make them for the Versys. I'm thinking of taking one off the bike & going back to the store & see if I can match it up to one of the Shogun sliders. They mount the same way. Of course, it will end up being fairly expensive doing that.

Hind sight is 20/20...

Rick what type of warranty do you get there in the states, IE how long is your base warranty with a new bike.....

Kawa007
05-19-2008, 10:33 AM
I wrote the store to ask them if I could return the sliders when I receive them but they charge a 10% restocking fee and I have to pay shipping...Ill probably use that and maybe next year buy a crash bar instead...it wasn't that much more expensive compared to the sliders and must protect twice as much being bolted in many points...

It depends on the bike, I think the Versys comes with a one year warranty, right guys?? I could be wrong, my paper work is in the file cabinet in the other room. I'll get off my lazy duff in a bit & go look. We can buy extended warranty plans for up to three years beyond the original factory one year. I didn't buy the extended coverage, but sometimes think I should've. :D

Kawa007
05-19-2008, 04:33 PM
In canada it's a 1 year warranty and 800$ for the extended warranty (4 years I think)...In all my life I've never bought the extended warranties (myfridge, washer, tv, sound system, microwave, headphones...still work just fine!)...and don't remember once did I regret not buying the extended warranty. It's often just a way for them to collect more money. I'll just have the bike inspected before the warranty ends to make sure if there's stuff that needs to be replaced that it's covered...but other then that, I wouldn't worry to much about motorcycles like these...I've had a honda civic that I drove like a rally car...and didn't put a dime on it in 4 years other then the normal maintenance. If something is going to break chances are it will break before the 1 year warranty is over or after the extended warranty is over ;) so definatly not worth buying the extension in my opinion...

I think we get a better deal here in the uk, as we get a full two years plus unlimited milage and if you pay around £130 245$ you can extend for an extra two years giving four years total,, Of course we pay more for the bike so its swings and roundabouts really, Just hope i dont have to use it

I just received my sliders. I'm not 100% sure but I was thinking the washer was supposed to go between the spacers and the slider and not between the spacers and the frame. The instructions don't even figure this slider model and english is my second language so I might not have understood correctly...

Kawa007
05-27-2008, 06:54 PM
Yeah well Bear you were lucky if you didn't have to cut the fearing for the slidders to fit!...I specifically asked them if I had to modify the bike and they said no. Then in the instruction it says you "might" have too...and then when I did start installing them, to bolt the fearing back on, I would have needed to cut the corner of the fearing up to where the hole for the bolt is! Dammit...I don't know if it's cause I have a 2007 Versys...but I hate making sure to ask the dealer if modifications are required, then receiving the stuff and modifications ARE required...who wants to cut off the corner of the fearing...

Bear on a bicycle
05-27-2008, 07:09 PM
Man that sucks! I'm sure you did, but I gotta ask, did you loosen all the bolts for the fairings? Mine fit without cutting, but I did loosen the bolts on both sides. The fairings do touch the slider spacers.

How about a couple of pictures? Its hard to fathom there being that much difference in the fairings from bike to bike...

Sorry, no pictures available I already removed the ?"/!%*&"/%!" slidders (right after finishing installing them). I did remove the bolt on the fearing on both sides (near where the spacers are) but it was just impossible to realign the fearing with the whole after and therefore couldnt put the screw back in. I emailed the store and will see what they can do, but it did look ok (if it had only fit like it was supposed too) and I had the covers painted mat black to match the slidders...

That's too bad. I can't believe there aren't more options out there. :(

I'll bet your covers look great. I've been thinking about doing the same to mine. In fact, I've been thinking about painting the silver frame section near the engine black as well... :D

Kawa007
05-27-2008, 07:33 PM
It did look nice with the mat black covers and matched the black parts of the engine. If you do it, just make sure to spray a primer on the plastic so that the black paint will stay on. The sliders do look more solid then expected let's see if they can come up with a miracle. So far this is the second accesory (first was the fatFoot) that I purchase to later realize it does not fit properly on my bike...all accesory sellers say that the 2007 and 2008 are the exact same bike, but I think it is not, they appear to have tweaked things here and there...

Are they interchangeable? I found them for a decent price!

Guys,
I just got this response from Motovation about frame sliders for the Versys....
These guys are a class act....They were honest about having reservations regarding integrity.....maybe crash guards ARE the way to go???
William,
Thank you for the email. We have looked at this model and have determined that the only place we could possibly mount them is not structurally sound enough for our liking. Meaning that we are not comfortable making sliders that would exert any extra force on the area. Sorry we could not be of more help.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Best Regards,

I am a little rotted with the Powerbronze Sliders as well. I installed mine yesterday and the installatio was pretty easy but as mentioned in this post once installed the fairing doesn't not align with the mounting holes properly, especially on the right side. I managed to get the left side on after a little forcing but this same tactic ending up in stripping out the screw for the fairing on the right and still did not get the screw in completely. After emailing them they said you would likely not have to make and mods. I mean why bother with the sliders if you have to do more damage then they protect you from to install them. Hacking up my new bike to install these does not seem like a viable solution and won't be a path I am willing to take. For the extra $80 I could have bought the GSG-Moto Framesliders from Twisted throttle and saved a world of hurt. Bear you are lucky you managed to get these on without faring mods..

Hi, I bought the new frame slider from Kawasaki. 240$ CND. I installed them myself. It took me less than 2 hours. You have to remove the windscreen, the fairing and the side cover. It is pretty solid as it comes with a new set of side bracket. Please see the pictures below to get an idea of what it looks like:

These should come stock on the bike it probably cost Kawa 10$ to produce...

I know that it's kind of expensive but I looked at other aftermarket option and it was in the same ballpark and not as solid as those. The majority of the frame slider will only screw in the engine with only one bolt. Those come with a bracket that distribute the impact on the frame and the engine. Anyhow, my goal is not to sell them, I don't work for kawi...

My thinking was that for 240$, i my bike fall on the street, that is worth the damage that it can cause on the shifter, handles, brake and clutch controls...and plastic panels etc....

My 2 cents...
