Shoei X11. I love it, and the best part? My wife won it at a Bike event. I drooled over this helmet for about 6 months. Retail is about $600. They could not get one in her size sooooooooo, I came home with a great deal. I felt kind of bad about it so I got her a Shoei Multitec in her size. She loves it too.

I have a KBC VR-2R that I snagged, with graphics, for $99 on ebay. Honestly, I thought I'd use it interim until I could afford a Shoei. I compared it to my husbands Shoei and the KBC fits better, is quieter, and looks killer. It has a few little features the Shoei doesn't and I feel like for the bucks, it's a pretty nice helmet. Retail was $395 on it.

I'm using a HJC CL-15 with a pinlock shield and a smoke insert. It's a good combo for anti fog and sun glare reduction. The CL-15 has been discontinued so you can find them cheap now.

I also wear a HJC SY-MAX2 which is a modular with a retractable sun visor. I'm fairly satisfied with it except for the increased wind noise.

I wear an Arai Quantum II and find it very comfortable and high quality. For really hot weather, I wear a Vemar CKQI helmet because it flows air really well and still doesn't have more air turbulence noise than most other helmets. See my post on "Vemar CKQI helmet on 2,700 mile trip". The CKQI has a removable facepiece which has been removed for the picture. It still flows air well with it in place and I didn't find it necessary to remove it for my summer trip.

If you have a blue V... this is the helmet to get. This was a $600+ dollar helmet in its hayday.

Shoei X-11. Bought mine for superior ventilation and because I discovered a long time ago that I have a "Shoei" head.
To the OP you need to discover what type of head you have. Most manufacturers design for a certain head shape, don't know why and am not an expert, so while you might like an Arai ( for instance) , none of their helmets may fit you.
Try lots of helmets before you decide. The worst thing when riding is a loose helmet. Well OK loose wheel bearings would be worst but you know what I mean?

Have a Shoei X11, EBoz replica. Picked it up earlier this year for $300 from New Enough on closeout. I also have an AGV Stealth at home, but the Shoei is just so much nicer that I doubt I will put too much more mileage on it...

agree with bkk, buying a helmet without trying ti on would be a huge mistake. like he said some helmets are rounder and some more eliptical. different helmets for different head shapes. find the one that fits you most comfortably because it will make it easier to wear.

I have a givi x-modular (aka givi x.08)

http://rmreview.com.my/2010-givi-x08-modular-helmet-comfort-rides/

is top confort, like my head is in a cloud lol comes with gimmicks like under chin vent flower, 2th pair of thicker earpads, etc. And mostly the 2th dark sunshade, use it at all times in daylight. Very confortable for eye glass wearing types (I am)

my girl has agv longway

http://www.seastarsuperbikes.co.uk/clothingagvlongway.html

which is not so bad either (although the givi is better build quality)

I though that I had a Shoei head (RF700 'til RF1000). Then either my head got rounder or Shoei started going oval: the latest Shoei RF1100 doesn't fit anymore. The X series are even more oval. The Multitec has to be downsized to a S for me, and I get hot spots after 2 hours, right at the rear corners of the head (parietal bones). So I'm leaving the Shoei family...:(

I now use 'cheap' helmets that actually fit really well, and are more quiet (for me): GMAX GM68 and GM44. The only down side is that the visors are not as good as Shoei.

Arai Profile - best helmet there is if you are blessed with a "long oval" (longer front to back, narrower side to side). Although these are fairly pricey you can find some deals on Ebay if you look for last years graphics.

Have two

One I like a lot but I would think that the other is better for my safety

Got this one GIVI X.01 (http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/givi/x-01/)
Very nice for almost all weather, especially for hot days, light, but might be a bit less protective

The other, Shoei RF1100 (http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/shoei/rf-1100/)
This one I have some reserve

The fit and finish is #1 and I would think it's the safest of the two
But on a personal level, an ergonomic level, after a while with it on my head, I experience some major tension in my jaw area, like it's crushing a nerve or something and a sharp pain is present at the articulation of the jaw
I will have to fiddle a bit with the side/jaw cushion and get them thinner, I already have the oem thinner cushion, but it doesn't do the do

My 2 cents

I'm sharkin' a Shoei. I like the idea of a high quality Snell 2010 certified helmet. I mean, hell, it's my brain, or what's left of it.

Gimme one on big sale from this year next Spring and I'm in.

People that do not wear helment argument is, "Why wear a helmet when you have nothing to protect inside your head"

I agree with them. That is why I wear mine.

My wife keeps joking about the Powerranger look of my HJC. That Airho is more like the GI Joe Cobra team look. Looks bad a$$ to me.

About the real question. I haven't tried a Shark before. However, I buy a helmet based on the expected level of protection, comfort and functionality it offers. In that order. When it comes to comfort after fit, weight and noise levels are very important factors. During the off season I will be shopping for a second helmet. I use an HJC SyMax II modular. Chose it for the functionality. Perfect for commuting. However, will lool for a lighter, quieter full face for long range touring and canyon carving I do on the weekends.

Looks are secondary.

I have a long oval head (long front to back, narrow side to side) and spent a lot of time shopping for a new helmet. Looked at RSI based on WebBikeWorld recommendations on helmet vs head shape. Shark make good helmets but the best fit I found was with an Arai Profile. Arai make awesome helmets, better than shark, but are a tad pricey. I ended up finding one on Ebay though at 50% off - last year's graphics. What ever helmet you buy go for fit first. Light weight makes a huge difference too.

Note Snell M2010 rating and ECE approved are better than Snell M2005 rating as they specify more impact absorption.

Shoei RF 1100 is great helmet too, if you have a rounder head to fit it.

great airflow, protection, removable liner, aerodynamics and comes with the so needed anti-laser beam detector, you can also order a ballistic gravitating defense droid in black or blue

lolol no truthfully just a givi x-modular lolol (but way too similar to the above)
