: Versys Cases & Givi Mount
Bryan Baker 08-05-2008, 12:20 PM I was looking at getting the Kawasaki Versys side cases. They are obviously made by Givi except they have the red accent and say Versys on the side. The Kawasaki accessory book says you can't have a Kawasaki trunk (also Givi) and side cases at the same time. Is this just because of the type of Givi mounts that Kawasaki offers? Can I use a different Givi or other mfgs. mount for side cases and trunk?
Here is what I want to do: Have Kasasaki (Givi) Versys side cases and a Givi trunk that I can easily add remove as required for my ride.
Thanks,
Bryan
DragonBreath 08-05-2008, 12:31 PM Brian, welcome from another new member.
I have just finished a similar inquiry to what you are doing, and here's what I can tell you:
1. The Kawi sidecases don't really come in red. That picture was just for the add and it has confused a bunch of people. They are only available in gloss black.
2. You are right that they are identical to the Givi V35 cases. The only difference is the logo.
3. From what I can gather, you can do what you want by either using the SW-Motech racks & top rack OR the Givi racks and top rack.
4. The Kawi sideracks are made by Givi, but it is a little different so it is not compatible with the Givi top rack.
5. I think the Kawi toprack is made by SW-Motech, so I would assume it can be used with the Motech sideracks, but don't quote me on that.
6. Lots of folks are painting their trim panels to match the Passion Red of the bike. That's what I plan to do.
Good luck in your search.
Chris
Ocean 08-05-2008, 01:09 PM Go to twistedthrottle.com and look up the GIVI side and top racks. That is what you want for this bike. You can get the Kawi cases, the color panels are an extra option.

Side cases for the PLX bags:

The trim kit gets confusing. On the US kawi site - the trim kit shows red but then if you read the description it states black only. If you go to the Canadian kawi site it shows the trim kits in various colors:

Bryan Baker 08-05-2008, 02:04 PM Great information and the links were handy also.
golfmuch 08-05-2008, 02:13 PM I have the sw motech side racks (with givi bags) and the kawasaki top rack (made by sw motech). You cant use the givi side racks with sw motech top rack(Or kawasaki brand). You can use the givi side racks with the givi top rack.

Bryan Baker 08-05-2008, 04:04 PM I like your setup. Is that the Givi windscreen also? Did you mount a regular Pelican case to the trunk rack?
golfmuch 08-05-2008, 05:38 PM That is a calscientific windshield. Mounted the pelican straight to the oe rack plate. It is also drilled for my givi rack.
tomatocity 08-05-2008, 05:48 PM Keep this information coming. The 50-States version is supposed to be released in CA next month and I have saved enough $ to purchase the first 2009 that hits PCP Mototrsports floor.
What will the Givi side cases and brackets set me back?
neil_asheville 08-05-2008, 06:41 PM Golfmuch has about $650 in his PLX rack and V35 sidecases. Ain't a cheap farkle, for sure! Of course, those will be high on my list....it's a long list:)
thesmithiz 08-05-2008, 07:16 PM I just noticed that on Twisted Throttles site they state due to the irregular shape of the V35 they will not hold a normal full face helmet??? Any input from you V35 folks out there?
sharrison56 08-05-2008, 07:40 PM I saw a post somewhere that you could get a full face helmet in a V35 with a little extra force. I got the E52 top case so that I could store my helmet.
tomatocity 08-05-2008, 11:59 PM Does the Versys have a helmet(s) lock? If not can one be mounted in a useable spot on the sidecase rack?
Feels like the Holiday season now that I know the Versys is being released in CA. Now who has the best price
sharrison56 08-06-2008, 05:56 AM There are helmet locks on either side under the seat.

A full face helmet will not fit in the v35 sidecase (at least mine doesn't - large shoei rf1000)
golfmuch 08-06-2008, 07:12 AM I have never liked the givi e 21 side cases but they look great on the versys. They look like they were made for it. If I had it to do over again I would go with the top loaders. They even have a more narrow look than the v 35s. I have noticed that my bike is alot wider than my friends st 1300.
sharrison56 08-06-2008, 07:26 AM This is the post I saw about a full face helmet fitting in the V35 side cases(http://forums.kawasakiversys.com/showpost.php?p=1403&postcount=5). Haven't tried it so I don't know for sure.
ereutimann 08-06-2008, 09:33 AM Does anyone have a picture of the mounting rack for the e 21 cases?
Ocean 08-06-2008, 11:03 AM There are helmet locks on either side under the seat.
Except once you add the racks it's a pain to get to the key lock. If I have room I put my helmet in the top box - but it won't fit in the side cases (Scorpion EXO 1000).

I have the Kawi Versions and My n100e Nolan Sz L fits quite well-As long as you face it the right way!!
I have the sw motech side racks (with givi bags) and the kawasaki top rack (made by sw motech). You cant use the givi side racks with sw motech top rack(Or kawasaki brand). You can use the givi side racks with the givi top rack.

This is about what I want! I already have a pelican case which I would like to mount on the back. So sounds like the sw motech rack is what I should get! When I checked twistedthrottle.com there was no picture of the sw motech rear rack. Does anyone have a picture of just the rear rack without a top case mounted on it?
joshmedley 09-25-2008, 08:41 AM I actually have the givi v35 side cases and the Givi v 46 top case mounted at the same time. Also, the only color trim kits that are available are in black which come standard. Sherwin williams has a color match as well as color-brite. I ordered a "red" trim kit from vista kawasaki, and upon return and some investigating it was found they did not have the red kit....pictures below.
MackDaddy 09-29-2008, 11:04 AM Does anyone have a picture of the mounting rack for the e 21 cases?
Here you go brother..

darcym 02-03-2009, 10:23 PM I just put my GIVI top case rack in tonight, and the installation went on sweet n' easy. I already have three different GIVI monokey trunks (in 3 different colors, none matching the V), so it made sense to get the Givi rather than something else and an adapter plate.
But ... I'm intrigued by the SW Motech removable pannier racks. I'd like to put them to use maybe sometime in the future. Has anyone tried it with the GIVI toprack? It looks like the side cases for Givi that the MackD pictured above use the same mounting points -- one where the reflector went, one on the passenger peg, and one near the license plate. But the one that goes under the rear most grab handle bolt ... would that be a problem with clearing the Givi rack?
I do like the looks of the Givi top rack better in terms of how well it fits with the bike. Now I just gotta see about having the top panel of the trunk painted candy lime green.
:D
splitmind 02-09-2009, 06:03 PM I have a large helmet, full face HJC that fits without too much challenge inside the V35 bags. I ordered mine with the bike from the dealer who sourced them from Kawi Canada. I got matching colour plates for my burnt orange machine.
Bones 02-09-2009, 06:17 PM I just noticed that on Twisted Throttles site they state due to the irregular shape of the V35 they will not hold a normal full face helmet??? Any input from you V35 folks out there?
My size medium Nolan N102 fits...barely
The PLX447 tubular side case holder is designed for the V35 side cases only, and will work (according to Givi) with the FZ447 Monorack for a top case. Just ordered the PLX447 and V35's, but Givi sent my dealer the PL(noX)447 that no worky. CRAP! I think the PL447 is for flat-backed side cases like the E41's. The V35's have curvy backs and need the PLX447 rack.
Haven't tried stuffing my XL Multitec in the V35's since they still in a box, but I don't think it's gonna fit. Someday I plan to add a Monorack and a top case like a V46.
