Be damned. I just had this problem with 600 mile-old Versys rear wheel, dealer de-glazed the pads under warranty.

I should have tried this first before handing the keys over to Ye Olde Dealer for fixing (I wince every time I take the bike to a dealer for service...)

As in the title, have a look, both my 07 and 2015 had spools on the front wheel only, maybe you have a different bike, many of us have brake squeal and shortened life on the rear pads of the 2015 ABS rear brake. As to the front, one thing that becomes obvious is a bit of pulsation when the spools seize .
