The Versys height and high center of gravity can make it a daunting bike for newbies, especially those with shorter inseams.
Thanks for the thought! I hadn't looked closely at that bike before.

Yeah I do remember when I first got my 2012, and was used to riding a bump at an intersection on my 1993 Honda Nighthawk 750. The Vs. 650 gas tank was in my face in no time and scared me to death. It hasn't happened since though! It's a learning curve of ONE repetition.

Heal quick.
Haha, I know right! Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion! It looks like there's classes in the DC area once a month, though I need to get some more miles under me before taking it. They recommend at least 3,000.

Shout out to GiantAntCowboy for helping me get back on the road! Thanks!

Good as new.

Photo is too big to upload here. Will do so when I get home tonight and can compress it.

Glad I was able to help!

Quick recap: Replaced the handlebars, gas tank, front wheel, radiator tank, mirrors, and all the right side fairings; unbent the headlight/gauge cluster bracket, rear grab rail, and painted any exposed metal surfaces. Last and probably least... I cleaned all the mud and dirt off the bike and polished out a few scratches.

A couple surgery pics:

Stomach Transplant

And cleaned up.

2008 Versys 650

Been riding 8 or 9 years, and have owned 8 or 9 bikes; its an addiction I can't quit...

THIS, in my opinion, is an excellent example of the reason why we have forums to begin with. The forum provided an arena where the issue was posed, and then someone stepped up with valid assistance to help someone out. Original poster- thanks for your honesty. Kudos to the forum member for helping you!

Next time a thread gets derailed at this site, please call out the offender and point them here to illustrate how forums are meant to work.

Glad y'all were able to get the bike going again!

Rode it to work on Wednesday! No issues with the bike and it felt good. Left out early and returned late to beat the DC traffic.

What a great job! I'm usually happy just to find a good "how to" thread on the forum. THIS is going above and beyond! Well done!

Maybe it's just me, but I'm always confused with posts like these. The bike is done and he's riding it. Why would he need a frame straightener? Also, he's in the DC area - about as far as he can be from CA. I would think there's frame guys closer to him if it was needed.
