A case of full out haul a$$

If you ever wondered what it looked like here you are. 70,000+ feet and mach 3.2+...in the 60s.

You have to see this beast to get a true understanding of size as it's such a clean design it fools you. I have seen the last one at WPAB and it is a BIG plane, makes a SR-71 look like a Piper Cub! A hint is the pilots sit 3 STORIES above the ground! You could drive a truck under it with room to spare.

The XB-70. Google it and you'll find out more than I can post. BUT this video will show a bit and give you a better idea how big this sucker is.

No it's the show piece in Hanger 4, they added a new hanger last year and all the X-Planes, President Planes and Global Reach Planes in in there now, you no longer have to ride the bus to the base to see them.

UNTIL an F-104 got in TOO close doing an inspection, hit it w/ the horizontal stabilizer on the top of his "T-tail", then 'rolled' across the XB-70 out-of-control, destroying BOTH aircraft....

Pretty sad. Bunch of good men died.

It was done in a Promo photo shoot. The pilot of the XB-70 was the only survivor and he never flew the XB-70 again. BTW the pilot of the 104 was one of the best pilots out there at the time as was set to join the XB-70 flight test team and just got a bit to close and the big bomber sucked his plane into a roll and knocked both vertical stabilizers. The Co-pilot never got out.
