I have owned my 2015 "fast" green Versys 650 for about 3 weeks, just got back into biking, had a Yamaha RD 350 way (way) :| back in my early 20's. Using my Versys as a commuter - hope to do some longer weekend rides.
Loved my RD 350's! I had a couple of RD 350's back in the early seventies. Bike was awesome for wheelies, and I could smoke much bigger bikes up to 100. Last one I had, had expansion chambers, Koni shocks, and I took off the center stand for ground clearance and peg dragging. Crashed it in Griffith Park near Chavez Ravine at the entrance to Dodger stadium racing a Honda 750 (I was leading and nearing the ton). We both went down trying to negotiate a 25 MPH turn. Two spinal fractures and broken wrist. Stupid, but I survived.
Now I'm a grandpa, almost 70, still riding my Versys and dirt biking with my Grandson. Life is good!
Thanks all, The RD 350 was a fun bike, they called it the giant killer back in the day, 2 strokes of pure power. I was just a kid, and by the time I graduated from HS all I wanted was a car - not easy to go on dates with a bike. My father kept the bike in his garage in North Carolina but left it wet - gas in the tank for like 20 years. We ended up selling it for not much at all. 30 years later after riding the RD I got the motorcycle bug again. Loving the Versys - not the screamer the RD was but a fun bike so far!
